now that looks delish!

Yes indeed, that's cool as hell. Is that an Asian thing? Texas thing?
|
I dunno....bought it at Costco, hehe. I'll check the brand later. Could be a Texas thing, or not. :P

Just decided not to wear my Viet long dress for New Year so I'm eating dessert. :D

Chobani won't mess up your look. High protein yogurt and some curls will give you First Lady biceps.
|
Lola, I don't know what brand of sausage you got, but we regularly get a brand called Aidell's that has several different stuffing combinations. Our favorite is mango-jalapeno.
|
Aidell's I can get at Safeway, in Newark, DE, according to their website. :)

Here's the package...,

OK, that's a CA company that make 4 kinds of sausage and 2 kinds of meatballs. They don't say what their territory is, or sell from their website, though.
|
6g fat per sausage looks good to me.
Hey, hang on - I thought you guys were all Imperial? Or are you bi-lingual like us? Nature programmes tend to use km for example, but all cars and signposts are in miles. Cookery books still have measurements in g and oz, but only show C or gas mark for temperature. Only quite old ones (or American ones) use F. No new cookers are sold with F markings. Markets are the last bastion of oz. I buy my lychees by the lb. |
Most of us are not bi-lingual but we've been teaching kids two systems of measurement since the seventies... I'd rather speak Italian.
|
I am of '70s vintage.
We spoke Imperial at home and Metric in school. I ended up being unable to estimate any measurement apart from a metre or a mile. My bro - 4 years later - was better integrated. Personally I think we should make our minds up and simply go for metric. None of our school rulers have inches on, so why do we still still calculate distances in miles? |

yum. you are making me hungry

I have a char sui paste.
I am intending to make a version of Nigella's slow roasted pork when the 'rents are away. Why wait for them to go on holiday? Because you cook it overnight. Mum simply wouldn't allow it... Me and Nigella know different ;) |
Happy New Year, Lola. :f213: :celebrat:
|
Thank you, Bruce! I'll take some pix of traditional Tet food tomorrow. Better headnoffnto bed now. So hungry. Been busy all day and didn't get a chance to eat much. :(

Snacking on spicy cuttlefish
Attachment 42824 |
I think I got cuttlefish when I went on my Asian Supermarket bender.
I don't know why dried fish are rare in this country. And when I say rare I mean unheard of in terms of national cuisine. We're a pretty chilly island nation though, perhaps drying has never really been necessary. Jellied, yes, fried yes, frozen (these days) yes. And the Scots smoke theirs [/smacks lips]. |
(Smoke me a kipper, bitch
I'm on the Ippa-switch Side of town, don't forget to write it down) |
Why am I back here?

Banh Tet is traditional New Year food. It's mung bean paste, pork, glutinous rice wrapped in banana leaves. The middle picture is pickled veggies people eat with banh tet. The sliced chili pepper is all me. People usually don't do that, hehe.

Don't know what's a serving size is. My sister-in-law bought some from the grocery store and lay them on a plate. It's been a while so I can't imagine it now. She filled a 9 in. paper plate. How much a person eats really depends on a person, I guess.

|
Yeah, maybe. I was wondering what a restaurant would serve.
|
To be frank, I'm not really sure. I usually don't eat out, much less a sushi place. Once a year, someone we know comes to visit and he'd treat us out. I've only eaten at a sushi restaurant twice so far in my life. I usually buy my sushi at the grocery store when I want to eat some. I think the serving size depends on what you order too? A dish, a boat, bento box? The last place I went to is called Ra Sushi. You can check out the website; they have pictures. Hmm....looking back at my pix, I think I mentioned the dessert dish we ordered had only 6 pcs. Perhaps a sushi dish had around there too.
|
Yeah, you're so spoiled with the community kitchen, family, and friends trying to fatten you up. :haha:
