The stairs have an interesting history. The building was built to serve as a hospital for vets after the Civil War, and the stair treads were built with a slight downward slope so they could be easily washed and the water would drain.
It's a very impressive building. Ornate. |

I didn't take it, but it is neat. (plus I was too lazy to find a better thread.)

I was trying to take some pics of these little pink flowers (some kind of rose, I think) Momdigr has in one of her flower corners, when I suddenly sensed I wasn't alone...

Another worn reject. This one would have made a better entry, but I didn't think I'd make it out to the old C&O Canal this week.
Tow rope marks in the stone around an old canal lock. And a nice crop of poison ivy. |

I picked up a cheap 100/200/300x microscope with a digital camera module included.
Here are my first pictures of a dried flower and some pollen. I am not happy about the bluish 'dead zone' in the middle of the slide. It appears that the center of the built in LED is focused on the center of the slide. The included software did not run on Windows 7. I used Irfanview and TWAIN to take the pictures. |
That's pretty neat.
