Stihl's good stuff.

I've been running Husquvarna for the last 30 years which have been fine, but I wanted something big enough to run on an Alaska mill and the Stihl guy went well under msrp. I ran a tank of gas through it yesterday and she seems like a go getter. Hopefully we get through the break in period smoothly and then really kick some.

Huge pawn shop item btw. Guys who got work doing landscaping would pawn their saws over the winter.

Griff 05-05-2019 09:55 AM

I bet! Any landscaping equipment would probably show up there. 461 not 261 btw. It’s a big one.

The last Stihl I had was an 051, 24" bar.

89 CCs, that’s a damn horse.

I have gotten good service from my Stihl 20'" 026 since 1991.
Had a Mac and Homelite previous.
I have used whatever gasohol mix I get for my vehicles with no issues.
Current Stihl and other makes dealer in town gets all exited and sells alcohol free fuel at $6+ a gallon.
What experiences have you all had?

Gravdigr 05-06-2019 01:12 PM

If you have a Casey's General Store nearby, they have no-alcohol fuel on every pump, ours does, anyway.

Our local Minit Mart has a special tank out back of the store for the no-alcohol fuel.

Ir's only about 20 cents per gallon higher, IIRC.

Kwik Trip premium is no alcohol.

Nearby Casey's @1500 miles.
Here is an interesting discussion:

Alcohol actually makes more power than straight gasoline, with a slight drop in mileage/time per gallon.
It shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't let it sit in the tank, or more than 2 months in the can.

But you can find ethanol free online.

I just get the ethanol free at the pump.

Gravdigr 05-07-2019 11:23 AM

Most places don't have it at all, much less at the regular pumps. Around here anyhow.

@DiaJim:

Nearest Casey's = 1500 miles. Damn, where are you Hawaii?:lol2:

"It shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't let it sit in the tank, or more than 2 months in the can."
I have five cans and close to twenty tanks on equipment, many premix.
Any ideas as to how to reasonably follow your plan?
