Raaaargh! Asymmetrical dog nips! (Nine, not ten. I counted.)

The whole dog ownership thing has been a strange and interesting adventure. Never owned a social creature, before, and still trying to learn all the body and vocal communication.

That is definitely one of the cool aspects of dog ownership, trying to figure out... what are you thinkin', dawg?

The door is closed, I need it open. And you, human, can do that for me. What are you waiting for?

The interactions at dog parks are some of the most interesting. We had our first fight (verbal, not quite physical but was close to being so) after a another dog refused to play despite the standard invitation and, instead, chose to keep putting his head over her neck in a very assertive manner. This seems to mean "I am above you, bow to me" and growling and gnashing occurred when Tiny got tired of this attitude.

Yeah, going to have to work on that. Thank god she's not like that with people.

They'll be fine once they've establish the pecking order.

Really interesting read on dog parks, here.

Quote:

It is a mistake to assume that every dog in the park is a well-mannered, well-trained pet. Just because it playing with other dogs does not mean that it will play with your dog. The issue of rank has already been settled with these other dogs and the game may be going according to their rules. Your dog will not know the rules and can easily get into trouble. To often when a fight breaks out between your dog and the leader of this pack the other dogs in the pack will also jump in and go after your dog.
We returned back to the park this evening with similar results, so we're going to enroll in some training. Chances are that we won't return to that park, though.
