I lived with one; but, only briefly. In the SF qualification course, the ranking students had administrative duties as student leaders. They were issued an M60 regardless of whether they were communications, engineering or medical specialists rather than light or heavy weapons specialists. Others carried the M16. Carrying that thing around all day everywhere in addition to the same basic load everyone else was carrying kept me in good shape; but, I swear it was talkin' to me on those long forced marches saying slow down, take it easy. Ah, quality time. :D
