Look Dear, pussy cats on the porch...

I saw that pic the other day, and thought that she and the kittens all looked a little awfully thin. Wiki says they typically birth 1 - 4 kittens. She's running herself ragged feeding and keeping up with all them bebbies.

At the moment, he's zooming around the house like his ass is on fire and his hair is catching. I cannot emphasize enough the never-ending entertainment value of Spike's cat-tastic spasticity. It is a gift from the kitteh godz.

Today I learned about Crimean Tom, also known as Sevastopol Tom.

There are some wonderful stories of soldiers adopting pets - I remember one from the Peninsula War where a soldier found a cockerel wandering about the hills - you'd think, given that they were struggling for food that they'd have eaten the bird, but no - he kept it with him and he and his comrades would give him little bits of their bread or grain.

In the midst of all that carnage and cruelty these hardened men took comfort from a pet. Kind of beautiful.

Or pets adopting soldiers...

But that kitteh in the middle is juuuuust right.

My 11 yr old one eyed gray cat has died. He had a stroke and died 2 days later. He was a good boy and never swatted a new kitten or puppy. The grands would mess with him and never got a scratch. RIP Bob you was a good old boy.

I hope that 11 yo, one-eyed cat is in a happy place chasing three legged mice.
