Damn, sorry man. I've recently realized that our dog is on schedule to die right as the kids are moving out, and it will horribly compound any empty-nest syndrome I may be going through. I need to plan ahead and get a second dog in about 5 years.

Sorry to hear that Tarheel. I lost my 12 year old a couple months back. Happy as hell and then ... one week later I had to let him go. F*ck Cancer.
To make this a somewhat more positive post, I was out to dinner that night celebrating my GF's B-day and the waitress was heartbroken that her new granddaughter was allergic to her cats. She didn't want to let them go, yet wanted to keep them together. Here are JackStraw and Tennessee Jed. They're 2 year old brothers and way more than a handful ... or two.

BigV 07-04-2018 10:40 PM

sorry to hear your bad news tarheel. that sucks.

captainhook455 07-05-2018 07:53 AM

This is why it is better to have more than one cat. The crying is over because the others need loving too.

That lady should get a Manx cat. They don't smell like ordinary felines and if they sit stock still cats will walk by like they are invisible.

Well I was calling her Clyde when young cuz it is all black fuzzy hair back there. She is a girl and didn't care for the name Clyde anyway. Cats don't like just any name so I started calling off names that met my fancy. Her ears perked up for Betty. It is a nice feeling if my cats are in the field and I call them by name and they come to me.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9cb8f21a20.jpg

You can call her Betty

After just a few weeks in his new home, Scooter Pie is going to have to somehow fill in for goofy, irrepressible, seemingly healthy, 11-year old Spike, who failed suddenly overnight.

Spike's with his sister Kirby now.

Yeah, brings back memories, but I was thinking of Betty Boop. She has white with black hair is a way of looking at it. My mother loved Betty Boop.

That is why I like more than one cat. If something happens to one the other is there to comfort me. Cats have feelings too and get my love in return to help them.

Glinda 07-30-2018 11:46 AM

Yeah, my other adult kitty Zoey is clearly upset that her lifelong best friend is gone. Without Spike as intermediary, I don't know how I'll ever get Zoey and Scooter Pie together - Zoey (timid, 12-yr-old, 1/8th lynx) is lonely and in hiding, and Scooter is a crazy kitten that needs someone to rassle and play with.

I've been trying to love on Zoey and comfort her, but with the kitten around, Zoey's always on guard and laying very low under the bed and various other pieces of furniture.

:(

Taking it one hour at a time . . .

Gravdigr 07-30-2018 03:06 PM

Sorry to hear about Spike, Glinda.

Hard losing long-time friends.

Thanks, Grav. Despite the rampaging kitten, the house seems so empty now. :(

Gravdigr 07-31-2018 05:48 PM

We lost Slick three years ago (he was a 21 yo Bombay, he was with us for 20). We still miss him.

I was standing the back door the other day and when I went to come back in, I stepped on the the curled up corner of the rug, and I thought I'd stepped on Slick's foot. I went stumbling across the kitchen trying to keep from putting my weight down on that foot.

Cats. He's been dead 3 yrs and change, and he's still fucking me up.

captainhook455 07-31-2018 08:03 PM

Glinda needs another kitten and then the one won't be so destructive. Plus the older one will eat better.

You're right, of course. The friend who gave me Scooter Pie has one kitten left. I'm considering asking if she would be willing to let me take it, too. But she's out of town for a week (I'm pet sitting for her).

I'll see how it goes with Zoey and Scooter.

The real problem is, with the vet bill and cremation for Spike, I'm $700 poorer, and Scooter still hasn't been fixed (we're still in the process of getting him all his shots - so far his vet bills have come to $200).

Adding another set of vet bills for the new kitten might wipe me out. :(

Reminder: There's no such thing as a "free" kitten.

BigV 08-01-2018 10:37 AM

I can hear Slick smiling from here...

BigV 08-01-2018 10:39 AM

Also, sorry to hear about Spike, Glinda. I hope everybody comforts everybody else.

captainhook455 08-01-2018 06:01 PM

Do you live in an itsy bitsy tiny little town? Most towns have a group working with a vet for free or a reduced rate to fix your pet. We have the humane society will fix them for free. A van is at Hardee's at 5am picks them up and by 5 pm they are back.

My vet fixes females for $80 or 2 or more for $45 each. We also have $5 rabies day 4 times a year.
Don't get your kitten parvo shots and crap. They either have it or they don't. A listless kitten is a soon to be dead kitten.

We had a chart at the pet department at Walmart about cats that aren't fixed. Start with 2 cats and assuming the decedents all live within 7 years there will be 11 million cats. We would be up to our eyeballs in cats. Chinese restaurants would have specials on roast rabbit. Well anyways see about a program.

We have The Fix Foundation around these here parts. They have reduced rate spaying and neutering.

Also, we have free rabies shots every June. Idk who pays for those.

Great suggestion, guys! Did a little research and found a local group that will snip Scooter's bits for $35! YAY!

Update on the new girl. She didn't want to eat food, but started her on leftovers cuz she didn't like cat food. I saw her eating dry food this morning. She probably didn't care for the garlic smell as I pour some garlic powder in each new bag. Bugs don't like garlic and flies either. My baby got out yesterday and we have been crying looking for her. It was so hot outside. Maybe she is under the trailer as her momma came for the dry food I set out and immediately left instead of waiting for head scratching. Imagine a grown man crying over a kitten.[emoji23]

So sorry to hear that captain. I'm guessing momma kitty knows where she is. Follow momma. Sending good kitty-finding vibes your way.

Well we found Betty or should say her mother found her. She looked everywhere as she did when Harley died. A cat has a language even though I hear meow. Different fluctuations of meow I think. It was real quiet outside last night and the dog being inside probably helped.

captainhook455 08-14-2018 03:59 PM

There is a polk berry bush starting by the ramp and it kept twitching. So I sat down and coaxed her out because I don't need a wildy cat. My wife was still in bed and she cried. The kitten curled up and slept with her. So mama is outside looking for her and I carried her in. The kitten jumped up immediately. Well mom loves it outside so I opened the door.

Here is a recipe for eating a polk berry bush.
Pick the leaves and pinch off whats left of the stem. Prepare just like cooking collards or any greens y'all prefer.

Happy Monkey 08-14-2018 07:14 PM

Pokeberry is poisonous, so boil the leaves twice to remove toxins.

Put the leaves in a big iron skillet with some water, fat back and salt. The berries are poisonous. My wife eats the berries because I tell her they purple grapes.

Most excellent! I'm glad she's back, safe and sound.

Below is a picture of the Divine Miz T, guarding the sunflowers in my garden from any birds who get bright ideas. (How on earth do cats contort themselves in such uncomfortable looking ways?)

Don't want me to see your web page?

I can arrange that.

Happy Monkey 08-21-2018 03:30 PM

Not sure how captainhook455 is viewing it, but I have seen pages where the page-covering ad fails to work properly on a phone, and can't be closed. I'm sure similar problems can happen in any environment, but I've sen it most frequently on phones.

Thats me phone home. It doesn't always do it depends what site its coming from. If I would have missed the gal in the bikini with the monkey on her shoulder I would have been upset, but don't know why.

I can close the page just as easily.

How long can a kitten keep getting the tittie? I mean she has teeth and she loves my left foot. Just as well cuz it is about numb anyway. The 2 dogs play with her in the house one at a time. I was going to vid them this morning, but I thought to pick up some stuff so the living room would look neater. By then they was flaked out. I'll get it.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e8fb154d8d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...249c226ad7.jpg

Scooter Pie is a really sucky kitten.

He's almost four months old, and never misses a chance to suck on me - my earlobes, the crooks of my elbows, my wrists (when I'm wearing sleeves), and the clefts (?) of my thumbs.

It wouldn't be so bad, but he drools a lot, too. I can only stand so much sucking/drooling before I have to push him off of me.

Gravdigr 08-30-2018 03:37 PM

My boy Slick would fall asleep on my chest (no, not cozy, he was 20 lbs!) and drool would run out past his fangs and leave huge wet spots on my t-shirt.

:sniff:

Thats because you were his replacement mommy. You took over the duties of feeding and grooming. I have one that drools. She likes to lay on my shoulder when I am kicked back watching the TV. She was the runt and I spent time sticking her on the titttie. I am her mama.

captainhook455 09-09-2018 10:54 AM

My kitten Betty still nurses on her mother, but has found can food is not so bad. She use to smell it then turn around and try to cover the plate like the food was predigested. I remember Walmart was going to sell cans of tuna, but couldn't get past border inspection as labeled. So it came back as Greater Value tuna cat food. The tuna look like cut up sardines in a light brown gel. My cats loved it.

Back to Betty. She won't use the kitty pan, but won't mess in the house. She picks at my toes in the morning until I wake and let her out. Betty loves outside and loves air-conditioning too. She is scratching the door about 11. Damn dog taught her that trick. She plays with everything including the dog, cats and monkey.

Freeway is a moody eater. He'll eat the parts he feels like eating. I give him a trio of dry, canned and Temptations in the morning and evening. Sometimes he'll clean the whole bowl, sometimes just the Temptations and/or dry, sometimes just the canned.

Freeway is an apt name - you can tell he keeps his headlights in excellent operating condition. :D
