I was hunting on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation. The lodge is at 8,000 feet and we would go up to 11,000 at times to hunt. Hunting is done safari style - drive to high points, glass for elk, and then do a stalk. Pics of terrain and second elk in the truck to give an idea of the size. BTW, because I didn't get a bull, they let me take 2 cows. I highly recommend hunting the reservations because they set their own seasons, you don't have to deal with the state draw, and they manage for quality/size.

Another photo showing how the Noslers destroyed the lungs. I'm really impressed with their performance, but they aren't as accurate as Powershok or Fusions

Took it to a processor in Pagosa Springs to be deboned and processed. All meat from any member of the cervid family has to be deboned before it can be taken home to Mississippi because of CWD. I packed it in Coleman Xtreme 5 coolers with dry ice on top - still frozen hard 3 days later when I got home.

We use venison in place of beef for almost everything. Saves on money and it is good for my cholesterol. I have my fingers crossed for free range oryx or nilgai this year to add some antelope.

Lot of good eating there.
My uncle had a fishing boat in Alaska. The day before he came back to MA for Christmas he took a fresh caught gutted Halibut off the dock, packed it with dry ice in a plywood box on his roof rack, and it was still frozen solid when he got home 6 days later. Dry ice makes it safe to transport meat/fish anywhere.

Good to see you Sarge. How many pounds of meat did you finish with?

Around 575 pounds. I know for sure it was 320 pounds deboned & packaged for the biggest cow. The smaller cow, I swapped some of my meat for some of his pre-made sausage. If you are ever around Pagosa Springs, stop by and eat at their deli. Wow, some of the best sandwiches I have ever had.
