Who the hell buys a red...

Leather couch?

I was getting into buying some red leather pieces of furniture but it's quite an un-sure colour.

Awesome? Or funky/ugly?

Gonna make everything else in the room kinda tough to figure out. Making a furniture statement like that requires a complete redecoration.

I have a red leather chair and would buy a couch in a heartbeat.

My chair looks a lot like that, but cooler.

ravenranter 07-22-2007 03:54 AM

I think you should go for it! I love the idea of a red sofa and if it wouldn't clash with my carpeting, I'd have done it long ago, myself.

DucksNuts 07-22-2007 06:18 AM

I love it. Do it!

Its definitely funky in my book, and the rest of the stuff compliments it nicely.

Sundae 07-22-2007 08:17 AM

Go go go go
Love it and love the rest of the stuff

Unfortunately my tastes run to eclectic and cluttered, even when tidy
But at least the slide into untidy isn't as noticeable that way

Who buys a red leather couch? A total PIMP.

Cloud 07-22-2007 09:58 AM

a confident and adventurous person

rkzenrage 07-22-2007 09:59 AM

It is a recliner and my son's matches.

the design of the sofas/chairs is not modern enough to compliment the other stuff.

imo.

it's a little too stuffed and curvy. Or something.

But I'd buy red. Just not leather -naked flesh sticks to is something rotten in the hot weather. youch!

monster 07-22-2007 01:03 PM

I have that lamp in the uplighter version, rkz

Quote! my house is all green, light wood and red and I think it's cool! everybody thinks actually

I also quote the no-leather campaign! you will hate it :headshake

I have a lot of red in my house. In the main living room, there are two red leather (bright red) chairs and a brown sofa. Red and tan curtains. The lamps are a grass green and the wood furniture is a very dark brown. It looks like your place goes well, but I would suggest adding another accent color. Maybe go find a pillow or painting or something with other colors to give you something to work with. Our inspiration was a pillow we bought with greens and reds and bright blues and oranges. Our dining room is painted a bright green with brown and light blue accents. I think you have to go with what you like. However, what we like changes and next we may be into darker, muted tones.

The matching recliners are great - my son and I had them awhile back. I noticed the coffee table - made me laugh - I just got mine back after playing trains and such instead - Thomas was a blast!

yesman065 07-22-2007 03:59 PM

Oh and Squid, the red leather sofa would definitely make a statement! Be bold, fear not and go for it!

Downside to leather:

Wears out fast.
Sticks to your skin when you're having sex.

Does not wear out anywhere near as fast as most other materials or fabrics. Sex is not advisable on a leather sofa - IMO- Funny story - - My GF and I were intimate on the sofa and experiencing a sticking problem - went with a blanket  VOOM on the floor we were in no time flat. Moral of the story - Blankets and sheets slide off leather very, very fast.

Squid_Operator 07-22-2007 09:50 PM

I was attempting to get my house as "appealing" as possible.:D

no, no. pimps buy purple crushed velvet sofas. that way, it matches the flocked wallpaper...

theotherguy 07-23-2007 08:21 AM

I just noticed the coffee table. That is the same one we have in the upstairs media/game/office room.

Hime 07-23-2007 11:18 AM

I like it. My friends tease me about my love of super-bright colors, though -- as my brother said, "you don't really wear things that clash with each other... but sometimes you wear a color that manages to clash with itself." :D

I probably would not buy a leather couch because I am a vegetarian, but I really like the look of it and think you should go for it, if it wouldn't mean throwing out all your other stuff.

Cicero 07-23-2007 01:47 PM

I have a bright red couch..........because I love red. Not everyone loves red.
I've had it for two and a half years now. And even I'm tired of looking at it.
But hey- it was fun.

jinx 07-23-2007 02:00 PM

I like red leather, but the stuff in the OP is a little too orangy-red and way too shiny for my taste. I wanted red leather chairs for the family room, planned to buy them for a while, but then found identical brown ones for exactly half the price that I'm very happy with. Maybe in the living room though...

Most people don't take care of theirs. If you do it will last a lifetime.

& yeah, our coffee table is usually FAR more full of trains and "accessories" than that.
