Cover Tunes on YouTube
Know of someone with a great cover of a great song? Put it here.
I fell bass-ackward over this tune a few years ago, and finally decided to throw it up onto YouTube, cuzz it wasn't there already. TurkeyNeck covering the BeeGees' 'Staying Alive'. It's awful, but it kinda grows on ya, like fungus. (I get a kick outta playing this for ppl and watching their face when they figure out what song it is. If you like the BeeGees, this ain't that.) |
|
At first I was like "Me First and the what now?" But by the halfway point I was tapping both feet and bobbing mah head...
Stealin' it now.:bolt: |
I'm a sucker for 'interesting' covers. Thanks for the thread.

you're all probably sick of this, but I think it's groovy. lick it, MJ

Ramones cover of one of my favourite Dylan songs, My Back Pages.
|
I absolutely love Johnny Cash's cover of the Nine Inch Nails tune "Hurt", but, try as I might, I just can't listen to it, and watching it is even worse. It makes my eyes leak.:sniff:
|
I like this, too. Cash again, this time covering Soundgarden. 'Rusty Cage'.
|
"Vincent Black Lightning 1952" covered by The Del McCoury Band. If you've only heard Richard Thompson do this song, you may not be prepared for this version, but, of the two, I like this one better.
The second song they sing is good, too, but they go all gospel-ly on yer ass. |
johnny cash should have done more covers |
Since we've brought up Richard Thompson how about this excellent cover of a less-than-classic-song.
I read a description on another forum somewhere where the writer described Thompson as taking a piece of pure pop pap and turning it into a song with soul and a little bit of the sinister about it. |

I was fortunate enough to catch Richard Thompson's act a few years back on the 1000 Years of Popular Music tour. What a talented performer. A genuine virtuoso on the guitar.

Robert Palmer covering "You Really Got Me"

Jim, this is kinda odd. Believe it or not, I just heard 'Hey There Delilah' for the first time a couple hours ago, and here you've posted a most excellent cover. I'm not crazy about the song, but, I think I like this guy's version better.
I recognized the guy as the dude w/the 'Billie Jean' cover you posted earlier in the thread, I'm gone to YouTube to check some of his other stuff out. |
Love this

Panic! At The Disco covers Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
Queen, they ain't, and the guy singing is certainly no Freddy Mercury, but, they didn't do a bad job of it. |

This kid, Josh Turner (no, not that one) does 'Graceland' like nobody's business. You're just hearing the guitar, wait til he opens his mouth! I may have been introduced to this via Teh Cellar, not sure. |

^ My new favorite cover.
Here are a couple others: and a re-post of LJ's suggestion |
|
Whoa. That's giving me powerful flashbacks to 1999, when my boyfriend was an absolute die-hard Dune fan. We almost drove overnight straight to Los Angeles when we found out they were performing, but the tickets were already sold out.
All the rest of their stuff is pretty intense happy-hardcore electronica. |
Yeah, I like a couple of their other songs, but I really like this one.
|
|
That's pretty good.
|
That was pretty good.
I'm sure that Walk Off The Earth's excellent cover of Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' has already been posted here somewhere but just in case, here it is. If you haven't seen it then you've probably never seen five people play one guitar either... |
|
priceless Puddles!!
|
That was AMAZING!!!
|
Incredible. :notworthy
|
Spotify served up this gem this morning.
|
Officially a theme.
|
Show me a cover tune that is more 1) true to the FORM of the song, while being 2) completely original in the PERFORMANCE of the song, than this:
|
Damn. A Supertramp cover.
|
Jerry Douglas covering Bonnie Riatt.
Jerry suffers a little bit from over-production here, but still an excellent cover. Strip it down to his voice and dobro, then we'd really nail it. |
Holy Shit!
|
Jerry Douglas sounds more than a little like Travis Tritt there.
|
Hey Ƒlint
Check out this cover. |
