Are you a 'Fringe Dwellar'?

I think I am. I'm definitely not one of the cool kids, and I don't fit into any of the other sterotypes we seem to foster here either. Definitely not a sex kitten or a brainiac. Neither am I far left or right wing politically speaking. I'm not particularly funny and I have no sense of humour (or so I've been told) . I'm not a source of funny/interesting pictures. Oh, and I'm not American. lol

Are you a fringe dwellar too?

lumberjim 01-18-2009 05:34 PM

no..I'm right in the middle of all of the cool cliques. but you already knew that.

oh and stfu.

Aliantha 01-18-2009 05:39 PM

right after you kiss my arse.

classicman 01-18-2009 05:45 PM

I think I'm a fringe dwellar, but who knows. I'm not good with that sorta stuff.

Juniper 01-18-2009 05:48 PM

I am. Because I'm still kinda new, I guess.
That, and I've yet to show my titties. :D

lumberjim 01-18-2009 05:49 PM

here's a clue:

the more you share about your reality, the less of a fringe dwellar you'll be.

it's very simple

thanks,

jim

Perry Winkle 01-18-2009 05:50 PM

I am. I show up and post some. Usually I don't check back for replies to my posts in any timely manner. I'm sort of a registered lurker, I suppose.

Juniper 01-18-2009 05:51 PM

You know, that's kind of funny, because on other boards I've had people bitch at me for sharing TOO much. :p
You better be careful what you wish for.

Elspode 01-18-2009 05:51 PM

Cool kids? There are cool kids here?

I'm so uncool I wouldn't have known if someone hadn't told me.

I share plenty.

TheMercenary 01-18-2009 05:56 PM

Somethings I am fringey on, others not so much. Eh, who cares.

You're cool. You are definately cool. You're out there, doin your thing, in the way you want to do it, following your own groove. You're so cool, you are in danger of becoming a much loved figure in American literature :P

TheMercenary 01-18-2009 06:23 PM

I always invisioned Elsp as a Merry Prankster from the days of the Magic Bus. :D

DanaC 01-18-2009 06:26 PM

Ahahahah. So hey, Merc...you on the bus or off?

Aliantha 01-18-2009 06:28 PM

He flew over the cuckoos nest.

I was DEFINATELY on for a while. They kicked me off for trying to drive while tripping on some Mr. Natural. :D

Juniper 01-18-2009 06:37 PM

Els reminds me of my friend Jaime. Same lifestyle, and a warm, wonderful guy. The only guy I know who could throw a naked hot tub party and nobody would think it was weird. Well, at least not anybody who was invited. :D

DanaC 01-18-2009 06:40 PM

He reminds me of a friend of J's dad. An American anthropologist he spent time with in the Sudan. He's so lovely. I could sit and listen to him talk for hours. Which doesnt actually amount to a huge conversation, because he speaks slowly and thinks about what he says. A lot of Elspode's posts remind me of his tone. Thoughtful and considered, and non-judgemental.

sweetwater 01-18-2009 08:58 PM

I'm not cool. Nor am I hot. I'm tepid, I suppose. But I'm smart & cool & humorous enough to recognize more & better in others, and that's enough to keep me here. If that makes me fringe, well, that doesn't make me cringe. I'm used to it. :)

Cloud 01-18-2009 09:29 PM

my bangs have grown out, so probably not

monster 01-18-2009 10:03 PM

Fringe means on the edge, the outside. How can anyone with nearly 10,000 posts make a claim to be "fringe"? Not getting the "in'jokes" doesn't make you "fringe", it just means the chances are that your post count is not augmented by posts that just say:

Srsly, this thead is just a place for those who don't get stuff to whine and those who do get it but need ego stroking to get their egos stroked.

That is all.

well, that and this:

Aliantha 01-18-2009 10:06 PM

Nope, that's not what it's about.

If you want to take a negative perspective on it I suppose you could start doing some whining, but I don't see anyone here whining.

monster 01-18-2009 10:09 PM

I was whining..... :D

Aliantha 01-18-2009 10:10 PM

lol...oh right. I got whining and bitching mixed up. Must be 'cause I have no sense of humour.

Aliantha 01-18-2009 10:13 PM

 :blah:

footfootfoot 01-18-2009 10:19 PM

Toni Collette is great,

Aliantha 01-18-2009 10:20 PM

Did you see Murials Wedding? She was great in that.

TheMercenary 01-18-2009 10:57 PM

Monster, what movie was that? looks fun.

Aliantha 01-18-2009 10:59 PM

Murials Wedding.

umm yeah, that's why I mentioned her.

I love Australian films

Aliantha 01-18-2009 11:01 PM

I wasn't sure if you got that one in the US. I thought maybe you only had her hollywood movies over there.

monster 01-18-2009 11:02 PM

it is... the non-cool kids triumph over the in-crowd... (for those who needed explanation)

Muriel's Wedding

Aliantha 01-18-2009 11:04 PM

with the help of ABBA

TheMercenary 01-18-2009 11:08 PM

ABBA, they were sweeds, yes?

Aliantha 01-18-2009 11:16 PM

yes

NoBoxes 01-19-2009 03:28 AM

I'm neither cool nor fringe, just happily tangent. :p

Sundae 01-19-2009 07:29 AM

I'm not fringe, because I'm here too much and make sure everyone knows every detail of my life.

But I'm not cool either. I was edgy once, but only because I was young and thin. You can't be fat and edgy, you end up looking Special Needs instead. Unless you're obscenely rich, then all the poor thin people think you're just obscene.

I am a National Treasure.

Griff 01-19-2009 07:40 AM

I've been around a long time but kind of drifted to the fringe since I haven't connected with the newer high volume posters.

that's awesome.

needs to be edited down to this:

You can't be fat and edgy, you end up looking Special Needs instead. Unless you're obscenely rich, then all the poor thin people think you're just obscene.

...and made into a cookie

wolf 01-19-2009 10:53 AM

We are all both fringe and center.

Clodfobble 01-19-2009 11:06 AM

That clip from Muriel's Wedding was very weird to watch. I don't even know her name, but that actress (the main one with the white sunglasses) was in Six Feet Under, in a role about as polar opposite from that clip as you could get.

Happy Monkey 01-19-2009 11:38 AM

Polar opposite to the 'Waterloo' segment, but I could see Brenda giving the initial speech.

Cicero 01-19-2009 01:49 PM

After awhile I really can't think of a good response to this.

It's just....silly..I don't know Ali..lol

I don't spend time thinking about being popular, on the fringe, or ignored....I'm just happy if people aren't being dicks.

lumberjim 01-19-2009 02:02 PM

some folks should lurk more

I am the "King Shit" Dwellar.

lookout123 01-19-2009 03:43 PM

I miss a couple days and come back to find a thread bringing up the old "cool kids" idea?:lame:

Aliantha 01-19-2009 05:05 PM

I was reading a book which had a group of people in it called 'the fringe dwellers' which is where I got the idea for this thread.

The concept of the 'cool kids' is a fucking joke for those of you who don't seem to get it or can't get over yourselves. lol Plenty of other people seem to see the humour in it. If you take offense maybe you think you're a cool kid but don't want anyone to know you think you're cool or don't like what being a cool kid might imply. If you don't think there are cool kids, why would you care if someone says anything about it?

Do you seriously think that anyone here is 'cool'?

TheMercenary 01-19-2009 05:09 PM

Hey, wait a minute. I am cool. Just not in a cool way that gets me in the cool club. :D

Undertoad 01-19-2009 05:14 PM

Hot Pastrami was cool, but he left.

Aliantha 01-19-2009 05:14 PM

Merc...you're not cool. lol You are however a major shit stirer.

monster 01-19-2009 05:38 PM

Ali, are you saying that Merc is hot? You pregnant people with your overactive sex-drives

TheMercenary 01-19-2009 05:39 PM

Ok, so I am not cool, I must be hot then. Well just not hot in a cool way that gets you into the hot club.

Aliantha 01-19-2009 05:40 PM

Ummm...no. lol

fargon 01-19-2009 05:40 PM

I am a fringe lurker.

Don't put that on me, wanta fight? :lol2:

Aliantha 01-19-2009 05:42 PM

In defense of Merc, I have to say he has been very kind to me over the last bit of a while and I have a lot of respect for him. I don't happen to agree with some of his ideas and find some of his crap posts incredibly annoying, but he's been a good person to me personally and that means a lot to me.

I still don't think he's hot though...or cool. lol I just think he's misunderstood.

lol...no thanks. I've done enough bickering for a while.

Let's just be friends. ;)

TheMercenary 01-19-2009 05:58 PM

mk... thanks for the nice words. You are kind.
