What is "REAL" Christianity??

See what I believe is "Jesus is Poetic Justice" and Poetic Justice will Save America and Israel.

glatt 08-17-2013 09:00 PM

Only America and Israel? What about everyone else? Like the Dutch? What have you got against them?

The act of being a dude named Christian?

I'm sorry.

toranokaze 08-18-2013 02:01 AM

Having a personal relationship with Jesus the Christ, doing your best to follow the laws set in the Torah, and following Jesus' example by being forgiving, loving your neighbors as yourself; also not being a Judgmental prick.

DanaC 08-18-2013 05:16 AM

JB: why would Jesus, or indeed God for that matter, have any desire to save America over and above other nations?

Griff 08-18-2013 06:51 AM

Love your neighbor as yourself. Anything more or less ruins the message.

'Cause we be the chosen people... at least us white, heterosexual, English speaking, gun owning, dog loving, FOX watching, patriots. http://cellar.org/2012/bwekk.gif

The rest and the furriners are just jealous.

Wow, for the word Christian to have such religious overtones, when Jesus did not teach a religion but a manner of living. It seems to me that many of my friends and aquaintences confuse being anti religious with being an athiest. But I digress.

A real Christian would be one who follows the dictates of Christ. Most (98%) of the American Christians I know don't do so well. For instance I had a talk yesterday with a pretty hard core Christian who thinks it would be ok to let someone starve on the street, since he is all about personal responsibility and he is not his brothers keeper.

For the record I am not a Christian.

DanaC 08-18-2013 10:15 AM

I think I probably live a more christian life than many of the Christians I have met.

I don't recall the parts of his teachings that called on us to chastise and abandon the poor and sick, beat up homosexuals and hoard our wealth. Nor do I recall the part where we are supposed to value our own countrymen above all others.

Unfortunately amongst evangelical christians the 'prosperity gospel' seems to have real primacy.

regular.joe 08-18-2013 10:20 AM

Just for the record I think that the mannor of living described by Jesus is most excellent, unselfish, and very hard to practice. Like any other spiritual manner of living with heart. Because the prepondernce of people practice it poorly does not mean it lacks merit.

I've already raised my frustration at people who call themselves Christians but know nothing of the Gospels. Bruce picked me up on the fact I believed people should worship, and ideally within a structured environment. He was right, I've changed my opinion on that. You can be a devout Christian and never set foot in a church. Although formal worship does have the benefit of giving you a working knowledge of the Bible.

The majority of white and Afro/ Carribbean people in this country self-declare as Christian/ Church of England. Can they all name a single Bible story without prompting? Old or New Testament? Many can't. Do they know the events of Holy Week (aka The Passion) no they don't. Can they retell any of the parables? No they can't. How can you count yourself a follower of Christ without even knowing his teachings?

Of course knowledge is even poorer when it comes to the Old Testament, but at least if you are claiming to be Christian that is only the prequel and not necessarily canon. But not even being able to name the Ten Commandments. People get them mixed up with the "seven deadly sins", and they only remember those because of 7even.

I've met some people who seem to be truly holy. All of them sincere believers.
I've met many more who work at their faith and try hard to live within the teachings of Christ without actually giving strangers their shirt and coat every time they leave the house.

I just don't like the wishy-washy-pretendy-all dogs go to heaven-stuff.

Griff 08-18-2013 12:00 PM

but but Benny is heaven bound right?

Sundae 08-18-2013 12:34 PM

Of course sweetie.

JBKlyde 08-18-2013 05:31 PM

you don't know a thing about real Christianity until you've "at-least" connected to the whole sweating blood theory...

Assume I don't. Tell me what I need to know JBK..

Sundae 08-19-2013 06:03 AM

I know lots about Christianity.
My bedding does not believe I need to sweat any blood. Thanks but no thanks it says.
Who needs jebus when you have talking pillowcases?

JBKlyde 08-19-2013 08:24 AM

I have a "prayer circle" in my head and I pray that certain people are awakened spiritually. That is the fundamental beginning of any Christ Like Movement.

glatt 08-19-2013 08:30 AM

Rather than working on getting other people to change, you'll be more successful working on changing yourself. And maybe that change is just to simply work on being more accepting of other people, so you don't feel the need to change them.

JBKlyde 08-19-2013 08:54 AM

I cannot change anyone... only God can do that.. but I also pray for myself.. that we all wake up at once...

Seeing my Godfather tomorrow - yay!
Aside from maybe Elton John, he is The Best Godfather in the World. He has always been interested in me, always kept in touch, took me to innumerable musicals when I was a teen and he was working in the City, and then became a priest.

He has always been a loving and gentle man (and gentleman) and happy to buy lunch and slip me the odd tenner. But as time has gone on he's also been a confidante, a non-judgemental shoulder and a sounding board for any potential crisis. When things were falling apart in Greenwich he drove over weekly and walked the park, up and down the hills, feeding squirrels and listening, listening, listening.

I love him and am so looking forward to showing him around my store tomorrow, and around Aylesbury. He's not been here for years.

I've put this here because he is one of the people I know who are deeply religious and seem to shine a light from within.

DanaC 08-19-2013 10:04 AM

Some of the nicest people I've ever met have been priests and vicars.

As a councillor I used to have quite a lot of contact with a couple. In a rundown and forgotten place like Ovenden, they were a beacon of hope and light. They worked hard, tirelessly even. And they tended not to be judgemental.

xoxoxoBruce 08-19-2013 10:50 AM

Clergy are people. They chose their profession for as many reasons as people choose any profession. The ones that chose it simply because they wanted to do good, can be a tremendous boon to a community. Unfortunately the ones that choose it for personal gain, or worse, get all the press.

Sundae 08-19-2013 11:40 AM

Quite right.

The 'rents are still in touch with Fr Tony, who was our parish priest when I was growing up.
He was Spanish on his mother's side and served in Spain for years after leaving here. Mum & Dad would visit him any time they were holidaying in the same region. A wonderful man; wrote such a lovely tribute for Mum's 60th birthday book.

Choose a book by its cover by all means. But don't judge it on appearance alone.

JB: why would Jesus, or indeed God for that matter, have any desire to save America over and above other nations?

I speak English I am an American.. I fight for my country to involve any other country in my philosophy other than Israel (Because I would Like to Befriend Israel) would be ridiculous because I do not know the language or customs. And Poetic Justice is the main part of my philosophy.. however undereducated I may be...

DanaC 08-28-2013 04:13 AM

You do know there are other countries where the people speak English right?

JBKlyde 08-28-2013 12:52 PM

but the court system is different...

Sundae 08-28-2013 12:53 PM

I've been courting.
It was nothing like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

JBKlyde 08-28-2013 03:49 PM
