None of these are my trees. This is the Waiting Room in Kansas City's Union Station, all decormatated up for the season, with some chairs and stuff thrown in for some meeting of obviously wealthy women who wore a lot of furs and such shortly before I took this pic Wednesday night.

Drax 12-15-2007 01:58 AM

WOW!

You have one line of text, and you have eleven lines of location/title/shit.

Dude, what the hell. Fucking change your location. It's been seriously pissing me off, its way too fucking long.

Suggest you don't EVAH fucking moan about people not following "posting directions" in "your" threads again. Just sayin'. You seems to enjoy telling people to piss off out of your threads and yet have no compunction about shitting in other people's. Sorry, Merc, just something that apparently needed spelling out, even though this may not be the best example of the "crime".

Happy whatever, I'll post my tree later when I've finished it.

richlevy 12-15-2007 04:08 PM

Nice tree Merc.

With the redeye and the smile and pose, I had to resist the temptation to make a Satan's Cheerleaders joke.

Something like:

Give me an L and a U and a C........!:p

Happy Holidays:xmashat:

monster 12-15-2007 06:14 PM

My tree just fell over and smashed a load of baubles/glass balls. Instant karma?

Bwahahahaha

Never mind the tree, rich, what about the daughter? of course, I can say that with an outside chance of not getting walloped by Merc, being a married mother of 3 and all......

pragmatic....but....laaaaame.

xoxoxoBruce 12-16-2007 01:18 AM

Looks to me like the lights are on there.... just not on.

classicman 12-16-2007 01:21 AM

Psst, look at the tree thru the window

xoxoxoBruce 12-16-2007 02:30 AM

Dude, it is 9 feet tall and we always struggle to put on the lights and topper. So this year we put on the lights, the topper, and the base outside while the wife stood on the front steps. It was eaiser for her to reach, she is 5'2" and we had plenty of room to manuver the tangle of lights around the tree.

Very Nice!! Wife and kids are still working on decorations, I will post the finished product in a few days.

monster 12-16-2007 10:52 AM

Thanks. We like lots of plain miniature glass balls, lots of tiny lights and silver tinsel and lametta. No fancy stylish stuff and no kid-creations (when I can get away with it ) but very very sparkly :D BTW the ceramic sun and swirly orange thing are two of my pieces.

thanks (they are attached)

I tend to be a geometric hand-builder, so these pieces were me challenging myself to be more -erm- freeform? the professional-looking photo of the dooberry is actually used to advertise the ceramics program

Razzmatazz13 12-17-2007 10:17 PM

We still haven't gotten our tree yet.

Monster, I loooove the sun! Great work!

kerosene 12-17-2007 10:26 PM

I thought they were probably attached, monster. Do you enjoy handbuilding more than wheel throwing? When I was younger I studied ceramics briefly in college. I loved handbuilding...more than wheel throwing. I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about with the wheel. Thats pretty neat that your piece is used as an example for advertisement.

That's why they call it an Arizona Room...Lots of glass, skylights and exposure on the north side of the house. In Florida, they call it a Florida room. I don't know why.:D

shina 12-18-2007 12:31 PM

We bought one Sunday. My parents waited for the chicks to return to the nest to make it a family affair. Strung with popcorn too! Wwe're so cheesy.

xoxoxoBruce 12-18-2007 10:51 PM

Popcorn? Cool!
I did popcorn and cranberries for the tree and garlands around the room once.

ONCE! I swore never to string popcorn again.

TheMercenary 12-19-2007 08:07 AM

Done. This years theme, all hand made ornaments, including stuff from the kids when they were younger.

I like that tree, looks old-fashioned.

When I hear "old fashioned tree" it reminds me of the year I lived in Germany. Our German neighbors had real candles on their tree. I was astounded, because it's such a fire hazard. They have these little candle holders that clip to the branches and hold special little candles very securely. The trees there were thinner than you see here, so there were plenty of spots where you could clip a candle without lighting the branches above it on fire.

I just did a quick Google image search and turned up this picture of a German tree with real candles. You can tell they are real flames, because they all point up, even when the candles are crooked. You'd think there would be more fires, but they don't leave the trees unattended.

xoxoxoBruce 12-19-2007 10:31 AM

Wow, even if you were standing right there, if the tree went up in flames there isn't much you could do besides grab the gifts.
I mean you could probably stop the house from burning down, but the tree and that room would be very messy.

jinx 12-19-2007 11:16 AM

I have a set of those clips and candles. I used to put them on the tree but never lit them.

monster 12-19-2007 08:06 PM

My fairy/angel has a real candle. Not lit, mostly.

The thing is, when you only put the tree up on Christmas Eve (as per tradition in a lot of Europe), it's generally still very fresh and wet, so not a huge fire hazard. And, as pointed out, they are pretty sparse. Also, the candles are pretty small and were they to fall, the chances of them staying alight are not huge. But still.....

Tree, from the top of the stairs so it's a weird perspective. Also the ceiling is at an angle. The tree is 8 ft.

http://cellar.org/2007/2007tree.jpg

House. You can't see how the bottom row twinkles at odd programmable intervals. Note above tree in the window:

xoxoxoBruce 12-23-2007 12:20 AM

That's the way to confuse the neighbors.

Razzmatazz13 12-23-2007 08:01 AM

Wow, those are really nice displays UT!

(We didn't end up getting a tree this year :( )

monster 12-23-2007 09:16 AM

There's still time. I bet they're about $2 at Lowes now. Or just cruise the streets -someone's probably already thrown one out by now that you could squeak a few more days out of!

monster 12-23-2007 09:17 AM

(great English there, huh?)

Obviously it would look better at night, but now is when I have free time, so...

Happy Monkey 12-23-2007 03:12 PM

I just like the look. Plus, it casts a cool shadow. Plus, it leaves the branches available for ornaments, and keeps the wires invisible.
