Total snowfall here = 16"

Number of area forecasters predicting 16": 0

Pearl the dog is 12" tall. Asked to go out this morning, but when I open the door she took one look at it and turned right around.

When we lived in CT there were several times when Bosley the cat ran to the back door to go out, you opened the door, he looked at the 10, 12, 18 inches of snow that was there and would turn around with the most disgusted look on his face. Then I would go snow blow paths around the back yard for him to investigate which would make him happy.

I miss the snow (about 67 here right now but we have a freeze warning out for tonight if you can believe that)

See the opening paragraphs for The Door into Summer. Cats hold their owners personally responsible for the weather.

I always feel guilty--we only have about 20 feet of sidewalk and I've always felt it wasn't worth the expense or effort to get a snow blower. But the neighbors have one and they often end up doing it.

Oh yeah, and I dropped my lens cap while I was taking these. How the hell do you lose a solid black lens cap on fresh white snow? Well, I managed.

xoxoxoBruce 02-12-2006 02:28 PM

I didn't see the wind they were quacking about on TV?? :headshake

jinx 02-12-2006 02:55 PM

Well the kids are happy with it, but it sems the snow has caused our chinese restaurant to not open today - which is really bumming me out. Sent Jim to pick it up before I even called and ordered... he's not gonna be happy. More importantly though, I'm hungry. Oh yeah, here's the damn snow pics.

To those of you who enjoy this sort of thing, congrats...looks like a dilly!

To those of you who hate this sort of thing, condolences...and it could only be worse in New York.

elSicomoro 02-12-2006 04:54 PM

We've been getting bursts of flurries all day...not enough to be significant. Winter in St. Louis has sucked. I broke out my one coat this week for the first time in 2 months...and I haven't even worn Pimpin Coat this season.

Incidentally, Philly had a big snowstorm on this same weekend last year.

Arlington, VA. Kind of heavy and sticky. Perfect for a snowman.
We also went sledding. I ache now.
It has been a fun day.

MaggieL 02-12-2006 05:34 PM

Not spectacular here, but I'm glad we can afford to pay someone to plow the driveway...

Glatt, you live in Narnia? Way cool!

(this made better sense before maggie posted because it was going to immediately follow his snowy lamppost and trees pic. Timing really is everything in comedy ...)

wolf 02-12-2006 05:35 PM

You want snow pics? Well, I got snow pics.

First, it's a longstanding tradition that I am lazy about taking snow pics, so one of the first I always get is the view out my bedroom window.

The view out my bedroom window is obscured by a very large cedar tree. I like my cedar tree. It helps to keep the sun out of my face while I'm sleeping.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0003.JPG

The dragon is doing his best to melt some of it, but he's not making much headway.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0002.JPG

Important safety tip: If you are going to buy an outdoor thermometer, pay more than $2 for it. This one is clearly not working. It's cold, but not THAT cold.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0004.JPG

The view through my back door. The windows are cleaner than I thought they would be.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0005.JPG

The needles of the cedar tree seem placed perfectly for catching snow in a photogenic manner. Because of this I cannot see the birdseed bell that I hung last night in preparation for the storm in hopes of getting pics of some of the chickadees and cardinals that I'm supporting with bird welfare. Because of the snow I am perfectly not able to see the bell from my recliner.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0006.JPG

The birds were up earlier than I was. As you can see they were out with their tiny little shovels and cleared off the birdfeeder. This is a $2 plastic feeder from Walmart. It has been attached to it's hook by a thin piece of string since I bought it two years or so ago. The previous feeder was one of those $45 squirrel proof feeders. It was made of metal and very sturdy lexan. The Squirrels somehow managed to steal it.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0008.JPG

My only real order of business for today was to get the car cleaned off. I have finally learned not to leave this until I actually need the car, as it becomes much more difficult to chip out of the ice and partially melted snow.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0009.JPG

In a move Tom Sawyer would be proud of, I made it look like I was having so much fun shovelling that my apartment complex's maintenance man, Little Dave (Big Dave is a foot taller than he), decided to help me out.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0012.JPG

So I'm out and ready to go.

http://www.blackstormhawk.com/cellar...6/snow0017.JPG

Some other wintry goodness shots.

I'm completely dumbfounded, here. They've told us we might see flurries in Tampa, tonight.

Man, late winter this year.

Elspode 02-12-2006 10:53 PM

Congratulations, Wolf, on being able to use the words "wintry" and "goodness" in the same sentence without the slightest hint of sarcasm...

FloridaDragon 02-12-2006 11:01 PM

You are making me jealous!! I miss the snow!! Suppose to be 34 here in Palm City tonight but certainly no mention of snow! :sniff:

richlevy 02-12-2006 11:24 PM

Cross-link!

Ok, I messed up and opened a thread in the quality images. BTW, Wolf, I'd feel really smug about owning a wireless outdoor thermometer if the damn batteries hadn't run out on it and it lost it's link. Now I have to tread through the snow to reboot the ****ing thing if I want it to register.

wolf 02-13-2006 12:15 AM

You didn't mess up at all, Rich. You chose not to follow along with the herd. Good for you, man, good for you.

Man, I am totally jealous. We had a white Christmas, and basically nothing since. Georgeous pics.

Granola Goddess 02-13-2006 02:27 PM

Man, those pics remind me of when I was a little kid living in Chicago. The snow used to be up to the windows and my Dad would build snow forts for me.
We used to skate in the street.

Here in BC you could be riding your bike one moment...then the next moment..shovelling you car out of the driveway.

wolf 02-13-2006 11:07 PM

I have a very similar not-quite-in-Chicago childhood (Glen Ellyn, DuPage County). Snow up to the eaves, and I would typically risk my life burrowing in piles like that. Never did the skating in the street thing, we had a lake.

FallenFairy 02-14-2006 06:56 AM

Hmmm make them bigger.... any advice Oh Wise One??? :D

xoxoxoBruce 02-14-2006 11:26 AM

Since the Wise One isn't available, I'll take a shot at it.
Try about 8 inches wide with a resolution of 72 in jpg format. That should allow you to post 2 pictures in one post without exceeding the size limit. :D
