Anyone else agree that number of posts under your screen-name is distracting?

Maybe there should be a way to hide this? Optionally? Or put it on profile page?

glatt 04-20-2006 08:26 AM

I'm not distracted by it.

Sometimes I'm curious about what someone's total is, and then I can see it right there. It's useful. But I don't treat it as a way of ranking people. It's just one piece of information.

skysidhe 04-20-2006 08:54 AM

no

Beestie 04-20-2006 09:28 AM

A strip of duct tape might work.

marichiko 04-20-2006 10:15 AM

Elmer's glue to keep your fingers pasted away from your keyboard. ;)

I don't see how number of posts is distracting. I just read the stuff going on in a thread. If I'm curious about the person who posted something, I may look at their profile, but usually I don't. The number of posts never was a big deal around here until lately.

Hahaha... reminds me I used to tell people to put black electrical tape over the red lights on their dashboard in their car. Instant mechanic!

I found old threads where people were congratulating each other for reaching certain number of posts.

Also, I've never been one to bring up post numbers, though a few have accused me of just posting to drive up my post count. Well, I'm TELLING YOU all, it's not true.

Maui Nick 04-20-2006 11:51 AM

To answer the question in the thread title: No.

SteveBsjb 04-20-2006 11:55 AM

that's all I need! :)

Elspode 04-20-2006 01:01 PM

The post totals are is a reasonably reliable indicator of how active a given Cellarite is. What it doesn't reveal is whether there is any worthwhile content in those posts. 5,000 posts of "Me too!" doesn't exactly make one into an admired poster.

In general, though, the higher the post numbers, the more involved and contributory the poster is...at least, that used to be the case. Time will tell if that will be true in the future.

*cough* That was back in the old days when people tried to post stuff that had content. I imagine that now people will feel pity toward those with large numbers of posts after their name. In fact, I am thinking of getting a new user name and only posting once a week.

Flint 04-20-2006 07:06 PM

I don't care about # of posts, or care about who cares about # of posts.

Kagen4o4 04-20-2006 08:28 PM

if the number of posts is distracting you, try not looking at the cellar. it should help keep the number of posts down a bit and you'll never have to see it again.

as long as people know me for the highly aducation and untelligent things i say then that makes me a happy boy.

that and occasionly getting some lovin' from the ladies in the Cellar.

marichiko 04-20-2006 08:35 PM

OOOooh, Kagen! You make my heart go pitter-pat! I love you! I've even seen you use similes (sigh). And you have LESS than a 1,000 posts! Aussies are the BEST!

capnhowdy 04-20-2006 09:21 PM

I have better things to give a fuck about.

KrazFD 04-20-2006 11:37 PM

Not for me...and not just because I just joined

lookout123 04-21-2006 01:11 AM

post count is very important to me. it is the only thing i have enough time to read anymore.

Kagen4o4 04-21-2006 02:27 AM

sorry what was that? i was looking at your post count

TiddyBaby 04-21-2006 07:02 AM

I find push-up bras and thongs... distracting.

Dee 04-22-2006 02:04 PM

Hi

Yes being a newby seeing a little lonly one by your name can make you feel kinda insignificant.

SteveBsjb 04-22-2006 02:37 PM

Hiya Dee. Thank you for agreeing. Welcome to the Cellar! I'm sure you'll do fine! :)

Nonsense, it's up to 3 already, but I'm more interested in what you have to say than your post count or the fact that your posting upside down. Thank heavens for gravity. ;)

Griff 04-22-2006 04:34 PM

Hey, who told the Aussies about the internet?

xoxoxoBruce 04-22-2006 06:08 PM

Aw, what the hell. I mean what else have they got, poor blokes.

20 proof beer, Nicole Kidman, and Elle Macpherson. Of course, Nicole and Elle came to the U.S., so I guess the beer thing is nice to fall back on.

TiddyBaby 04-23-2006 09:57 AM

Aussie beer = good
All Beer = good

flat beer, distracts me.

skysidhe 04-23-2006 12:09 PM

I find April as a join date to be more suspect than any other month.

I know I am April too but I am nothing but a greenhorn with a green card.

lumberjim 04-23-2006 12:12 PM

chuff. The word April, in general, has a suspect vibe to it around here.

be careful about saying

Weird how most people might know someone who talks exactly like that.

Some kind of 'hyper spiritual appearance talk' gene or something.

xoxoxoBruce 04-23-2006 12:51 PM

Anybody that's ever watched "Cops". :haha:

looks like i had the words wrong, but this is where that comes from. click preview play.

skysidhe 04-23-2006 12:58 PM

lj, no way did I think that was you. I knew it was a joke BUT my 70 year old aunt in Seattle says stuff like that....totally happy and cool person. Silly though. Her and my Uncle are Missonaries to the Philippines.

@ Bruce. I don't get it.

capnhowdy 04-23-2006 01:54 PM

 you may never 'get' Brucie. ;)

Cheyenne 04-23-2006 02:46 PM

What the number of posts tells me is "What other things could have been accomplished if one had all the time back it took to reach such numbers?"

*tries to pull internet mainline from main artery*

wolf 04-23-2006 03:30 PM

You're doing about 13 posts per day, I'm at about 6. I think that says a lot more. (UT, I couldn't find the memberlist view that shows avg. posts per day, did we lose that in the upgrade?)

Cheyenne 04-23-2006 03:34 PM

You reply as though I meant you.

hense: *tries to pull internet mainline from main artery*

Although your theory sounds right, if you divide the amount of time I spend on a post compared to loooong drawn out posts then consider the amount of years someone has been on line. I think my time would be lessened by weeks. ;)

wolf 04-23-2006 03:42 PM

You could mean anybody with over 1K posts, actually. I was just the first one to comment, and to bother to do the math.

It's not in the member list, but it's shown in the user profile.

wolf 04-23-2006 03:51 PM

It's not uncommon to hear that type of phasing when interviewing relatives of the perp or victim, on "Cops" or the news. ;)

Kagen4o4 04-23-2006 06:48 PM

ahhhh FFS! im april too. and didnt all the agers sweep over us in april. must be a month for closing down message boards

SteveBsjb 04-23-2006 10:30 PM

So, we all agree. The numbers are distracting and should be hidden.

Cheyenne 04-23-2006 10:35 PM

just cover them with white out :p

10 whole years? It doesn't count if you're only talking about the resorts where Americans vacation.

Cheyenne 04-25-2006 09:01 AM

kagen, after 10 years one would think you could at least upgrade from a chamber pot.
