6/15/2006: Mass Destruction of Weapons

http://cellar.org/2006/gundestruction1.jpg

xoB finds this gallery of images entitled "Mass Destruction of Weapons" and it's such a natural title that I can't help but steal it.

http://cellar.org/2006/gundestruction2.jpg

A lot of the guns seem to be covered in this sort of tape or glue or goo of some sort.

http://cellar.org/2006/gundestruction3.jpg

This massive crane picks up the batches of weapons one after the other, and they get chewed up by some massive industrial metal shredder; :shred:

http://cellar.org/2006/gundestruction4.jpg

And it all makes a massive pile of scrap.

Ibby 06-15-2006 01:44 PM

All those shredded chunks of gun flying through the air look pretty damn dangerous...

rkzenrage 06-15-2006 01:57 PM

In our house this is known as WMD.

I'm more interested in the machine that can shred these guns. Seems to me a machine at a typical scrap yard would have "teeth" sized to shred larger objects, like washing machines or refrigerators. And something as small as a gun might get jammed in the teeth or pass through unscathed. Guns are pretty dense and aren't made of soft metal either, so what metal are the "teeth" made of?

Wow, I don't know if you recall .... but, this is the second Mass Destruction of Weapons Thread. Seems more thorough than the first option: http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=664

Welcome to the Cellar, findpolitics.:D
There was another one burning large stacks of long guns. I don't want to link to it because 2 examples are all Wolf can stand in one day.

Nope.... ass destroys... is never destroyed (we do not discuss the habanero "incident"... they look a lot like nanna peppers, s-not my fault).

Why don't they just blow them up, the old-fashioned way?

capnhowdy 06-15-2006 05:41 PM

The "goo" they are covered in is most likely carboline.

What another waste of good stuff. I have a 7.62 Rifle but not the pistol. Interesting.

xoxoxoBruce 06-15-2006 06:07 PM

Get thee to a Makarov.;)

footfootfoot 06-15-2006 07:25 PM

the gooey stuff is a kind of grease and the paper is an oil impregnated paper, like parchment, I think it is to help prevent rust during shipping and storage. I only have ever seen this on tools coming out of the orient or eastern europe. I think when I was a kid I remember seeing something similar at an army surplus store. REal army surplus, WWII and Korea war

Wait, don't tell me - it gets sent off to the ploughshare works then, right?

xoxoxoBruce 06-15-2006 11:34 PM

Nah, shrapnel for anti-personnel mines.:smack:

WabUfvot5 06-16-2006 12:27 AM

It's obvious that glue / goo / tape is really skin of the gun; not unlike that of an onion. It's plain that whatever Scandinavian country (Sweden or Finland) has developed a method of growing guns in the soil. It's imperative the USA liberate the people of that country and use those guns for good - not evil.

Uryoces 06-16-2006 10:42 AM

They look like they are Tokarev TT-33 Pistols - 7.62 mm. I was considering one of them before my friend recommended the CZ-52. I really like the CZ. I've heard it's a very accurate pistol, and I'm proficient enough with it. I need to go shooting some day soon, and bring along it's big brother the SKS.

xoxoxoBruce 06-16-2006 03:05 PM

I just noticed the crate closest to the camera in the first picture looks like it's labeled 500 pieces.
It appears there is a two rows of at least 5 crates.

Let's see now, two rows times five crates equals ten crates times 500 pieces equals........

If you'll excuse me, I'd like to be alone..... :sniff:

I am very despondant.

Very.

However, I would perhaps find amusement if someone forgot to unload the mags of the ones that are being barbequed, and they cook off.

Serve the damn gun grabbers right, that would.

lookout123 06-21-2006 03:54 AM

whew! wolf checked in. i was afraid what this thread would drive her to...

xoxoxoBruce 06-21-2006 04:24 AM

BigV 06-22-2006 10:06 AM

xoxoxoBruce 06-22-2006 12:10 PM

Just because it's a retread doesn't mean it isn't groovy.......
nor will it stem pot shots from big wheels on the the rim.

Arrrrrrhhhh....stop me, before I pun again. :smack:
