New rules in China ~ No strippers at funerals

Say what? From here.

China bans strippers at funerals - Obscene performances' clampdown

China has added strippers at funerals to its burgeoning list of proscribed activities, the BBC reports.

Bare-assed ladies are apparently deployed at rural send-offs to boost mourner numbers, since "large crowds are seen as a mark of honour".

To show they mean business, the authorities have arrested the leaders of five striptease troupes, including two involved in a farmer's funeral in Donghai county, Jiangsu province on 16 August, which was exposed by a Chinese TV station.

Local officials subsequently ordered an end to the traditional practice - which they dubbed "obscene performances" - and declared that "funeral plans have to be submitted in advance", according to Xinhua news agency.

And just to make sure the ban sticks, the powers that be have set up a hotline where concerned citizens can earn cash rewards for reporting "funeral misdeeds".

For the record, the attendance at the farmer's farewell was estimated at 200. He can consider himself duly honoured.

Bootnote
We gather that strippers are commonly seen at Taiwanese funerals, where explicit displays are accompanied by hard-core commentary on the deceased's virility.
Taiwanese lottery winners also hire strippers to disrobe in temples as a mark of gratitude for their good fortune. The C of E might like to consider this practice as a way of boosting congregations.
This is some where between wtf and they've got to be kidding. Maybe our Chinese members can comment.

I'm pretty sure there weren't any nekkid chicks at my grandmother's funeral in March. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have dozed off during the two-hour service (no disrespect meant - I had *just* stepped off the plane that morning and was jetlagged).

If I see boobies at any funerals here in Taiwan, I'll do my best to get some photo evidence for all you cellar perverts.

See! This is what happens when fascism is allowed to run rampant. If I was Chinese, I'd be having to change my funeral plans right now.

rkzenrage 08-29-2006 10:43 PM

I wanna' have strippers at my funeral now... good thing I'm not Chinese.

That which isn't illegal is mandatory.

Next, they'll ban wine and cheese from art openings.

The Chinese have inspired me with a new method of improving the Viking funeral! Damn my kids are gonna be pissed at me.

notsogonadic 08-30-2006 10:29 AM

stripping at funerals?

how rad!

i'd love to strip at my own funeral

(lookin so forward to it, though, it'll probly happen, afterwards, kinda)

Sadly, in my life it has been the opposite until recently.

How about having the dead guy naked?
... Okay, maybe not.

Shawnee123 08-30-2006 11:47 AM

Could someone explain to me how "Bare-assed ladies are apparently deployed at rural send-offs to boost mourner numbers, since large crowds are seen as a mark of honour."?

So, no one liked the damn dead corpse but since strippers and horny fuckers are at the funeral people get the impression he was liked and honored? I just don't get it. Could people possibly be that obtuse?

Of course, I told my family at my funeral all I want is an open bar, and an open forum where people can get up and tell funny stories about me. My brother said "well, now that we have it all planned, let's set a date."

footfootfoot 08-30-2006 01:01 PM

I think it is like an asshole who hosts a huge party, everyone goes because everyone will be there. A-hole gets a rep for throwing great bashes even if no one likes him.

So, in a way, he is looked up to for his monster parties, if not his winning personality.

But I'm not Chinese, so I don't know.

Why all the rancour for the Asian Stripper Funerals? You all KNOW you would SO be there if one of your friends had a Hooters Send-Off. Don't even try to deny it.

Personally, I see UT having a SummerCountry/VikingFlamingRaft with lots of bikini-clad B girls writhing in mourning when he goes. Don't say you haven't thought of it, UT.

I like to think zippyt will go out Nawlin's style.

Me, I want a techno party with jello-shots and a hairy buffalo. Not the drink but an actual hairy buffalo.

Hippikos 08-30-2006 01:45 PM

Would they accept strippers at weddings?

Clearly, you haven't spent a lot of time observing popular culture lately. The answer to your question is..."yes". :)

Go to a Pagan festival and you can do all of that and not be dead. In fact, it is considered to be bad form to be dead when all of this is going on.

What? Drown while trying to float a keg of beer and big screen TV down the street after a hurricane?

Flint 08-30-2006 02:23 PM

"observing popular culture"

Eating potato salad off a paper plate with the American flag on it is considered patriotic, but teaching a lesson on Free Speech gets you suspended.

I stand corrected. :p

And Bri? It's not the writhing bodies I object to, not in the least, it's acting like having boobies at your funeral means you were so loved during your life. ;)

Maybe I'll just start bringing strippers to random funerals, and see what happens.

Flint 08-30-2006 02:46 PM

Wait, does bringing a stripper as your date to a funeral count ???

Fred Phelps should try this tactic. I'll bet no one would even notice he was protesting funerals if he had his women doff their tops and wear hot pants.

True, enough...except I'm not a man and I think my own boobies are spectacular.

Welcome to the Cellar, notsogonadic. :D
I doubt you'd be stripping , or much else, after your funeral.

I'd suggest you use that article to start a thread, it's certainly worthy of discussion. :2cents:

Flint 08-30-2006 09:20 PM

I don't have the energy. I just got done with it on another board. Maybe tomorrow...

dar512 08-31-2006 10:11 AM

You're...seeing other boards??!! How could you? What about all the threads you started here? Doesn't that mean anything to you?

wolf 08-31-2006 10:12 AM

don't encourage him.
