September 7, 2006: World's smallest boy

http://cellar.org/2006/smallestlad1.jpg

Ibram finds this item. The laddie on the left is Khagendra Thapa Magar. He's fourteen. Born and lives in Nepal. He's 20 inches (50 cm) high and weighs 10 pounds (4.5 kg).

Unfortunately the Guinness people have declined to put him in the Book, saying that he has to wait four more years until age 18, when he can qualify as the world's smallest man.

His father hopes to raise money by touring the lad around Nepal.

Wow. This guy is better than Tiger Woods and Michael Jackson's dads combined!

Yeah, but if you throw Gary Coleman's dad into the mix, it's just about even.

Sundae 09-07-2006 10:57 AM

I feel sorry for the boy on the right.

All he's heard all these years is how special Khagendra is, and why couldn't he be more like his brother and earn the family some money instead of growing and growing.....

Shawnee123 09-07-2006 11:31 AM

Khagendra Khagendra Khagendra.

Trilby 09-07-2006 12:07 PM

Yup, the boy on the right looks none too happy. I see therapy bills in his future!

Elspode 09-07-2006 01:30 PM

Are we pretty sure the boy on the right isn't actually his dad? It would explain a lot...

capnhowdy 09-07-2006 04:09 PM

His Dad could take him (the kid on the right) around to "raise money" for being the world's most depressed looking boy. Why don't they just join the circus?

astrodex 09-07-2006 05:47 PM

And to top it all off they make him wear girlie sandals. They couldn't shop in the infant BOYS section? Therapy all around!

Wombat 09-07-2006 06:46 PM

Wow - each of my cats weighs more than him!

lumberjim 09-07-2006 09:09 PM

I've had it up to here(holds hand flat just below knee) with this thread.

Ibby 09-07-2006 09:30 PM

Whoo, I feel honoured!

milkfish 09-07-2006 09:33 PM

Kid's working on his Paris Hilton runway pose, in that last picture.

capnhowdy 09-07-2006 10:43 PM

Give the short one a break.... He's just a guy knee high to another knee high guy.

ferret88 09-08-2006 03:45 PM

OK, since no one else has said it, I will...

"What the $@#%! do they need to raise money for? It's not like he's gonna be eating much. And he can wear doll clothes!"

(I been wondering this since I first read about this kid.)

xoxoxoBruce 09-08-2006 04:00 PM

Because it's the son's duty to support his parents in their old age, and they want to be supported in style. ;)

glatt 09-08-2006 04:05 PM

OK, since no one else has said it, I will...

Not too much meat on there. You'd need a lot of batter before you fried 'em up.

Wait. Is this the tree frog thread?

To get him a nose job?
I think he may fit in my biggest turkey fryer. If not.... it's MIDGET NUGGETS. :footpyth:

Maybe for medical bills you asshole. Primordial dwarfism often comes with other medical conditions.

lumberjim 04-19-2007 12:33 AM

odd. i'm watching a show a show about a primordial dwarf right this very moment.

ps. I loove it when a new member's first post is to call someone an asshole.

I watched a show about primordial dwarfs (dwarves? I never know) a couple of months ago. It was so sad, especially when they talked about wanting children of their own.

It did make me wonder whether some of the stories of pixies/ elves/ fairies came from real life at some point in the past though. They are so tiny and have such high pitched voices that even in today's rational environment there seems to be something otherworldly about them.

Aliantha 04-19-2007 07:46 AM

They showed that one over here too Sundae. It made me cry. Very sad. Apparently the possible life span for primordial dwarfs is not very high.

Shawnee123 04-19-2007 10:21 AM

The prognosis for primordials is particularly prohibitive.

hoangtrang 09-28-2009 09:42 PM

Can you give some more sample question and answers. How great your info is! It really useful for me. Thanks.

capnhowdy 09-28-2009 09:48 PM

I think there were a couple of those online on 9-11. You insensitive bastards.

TheDaVinciChode 09-29-2009 09:29 AM

For some reason, I have the overwhelming urge to say...

"Kick the baby..."

Damn SouthPark.

Doesn't matter, children are to be displayed, not heard. :p

Just a quick update to this thread.

On October 14th of last year, Khagendra Thapa Magar did indeed get listed as the world's shortest man in Guinness. He had grown about 6 inches since this IOTD.

But it was short lived. Last week, Junrey Balawing, turned 18 and knocked him off the throne. Junrey is only 1 ft 11 2⁄3 inches tall.

Spexxvet 06-20-2011 04:50 PM

I want giant coke bottles, too!;)

footfootfoot 06-20-2011 06:09 PM

No, you may not. You know you'd just cut the bottoms out of them, affix the bottoms to frames and sell them.

SPUCK 06-21-2011 06:21 AM

I always knew Coca-Cola was bad for you!(poison really) Now we have proof.

footfootfoot 06-21-2011 09:00 AM

Hard to say, imagine how tiny he'd be if he hadn't drank all that coke?

The better to see you with....

Sundae 06-21-2011 04:34 PM

Paris Hilton might adopt him.
She can pop him in her handbag with her tiny tiny dogs.

This category sees a lot of activity. It turns out that all along, there was a shorter dude.

1 foot 9.5 inches tall. That's over 2 inches shorter than the previous record holder! Chandra Bahadur Dangi is 72 years old. It makes you wonder if there is someone even shorter out there remaining to be discovered.

In this picture, it looks to me like he's squatting, but I suppose the officials at Guinness are careful about that, and that's just the way his legs are.

Sundae 02-27-2012 03:32 PM

Pssst, Glatt.
It's not the man on the right they are measuring.

glatt 02-27-2012 03:36 PM

Oh! Well, that explains it.

Sundae 02-27-2012 04:05 PM

The man on the far right does seem to have seen the oncoming Rapture though...
