Whatcha gonna be for Halloween??

Ok, so I may be a huge child at heart, but I love dressing up for Halloween. I don't go trick or treating or anything, but there is a big bash at the bar that I can't wait for!!

I usually don't do anything drastic, but I love my outfit. I am going to be a hippie with authentic hippie jewlery (thanks mom), homemade bells (thanks mom), army jacket, and funky glasses. I can't wait. The only piece I need is something to put in my hair. I am either going to tie a leather string around my head or use a scarf I already have to put around my hair.

What are you going as?

Shawnee123 10-20-2006 09:51 AM

I thought I'd try going as a sane person, but I don't think I can pull it off.

Ibby 10-20-2006 09:59 AM

I dont think I have anywhere to dress up AT... but I'm going as Ziggy if I go anywhere.

Flint 10-20-2006 10:09 AM

I always have trouble thinking of a theme, and usually don't dress up at all. So this year I'm considering going totally random. I bought some black contacts. I also bought a Pirates of the Caribbean wig/hat thing. I don't know how they will go together, or even if they will. I might ebay the wig.

I found out that if you make the hat brim go floppy instead of pirate-like, it kind of makes a Deliverance crazy hillbilly thing. I might take the beads out of the hair in front and see if I can't complete the effect. I also found, but haven't yet bought, a cheesy fake chainmail looking thing with a big cross on the front and back, kind of a knights templar sort of thing. It's really disco-y and would complete the costume well I think.

There were also some fuzzy rainbow slippers at WalMart the other day.

We're playing a gig the weekend before Halloween and I want to wear my stuff onstage. We were all going to dress up as the Tunak Tunak Tun guy, but we couldn't find affordable Indian dress.

Flint 10-20-2006 10:12 AM

me love you long time

rkzenrage 10-20-2006 10:31 AM

Flint 10-20-2006 10:38 AM

rkzenrage 10-20-2006 10:40 AM

jinx 10-20-2006 11:28 AM

The corpse bride.

Spexxvet 10-20-2006 11:58 AM

A fat old guy drinking beer and handing candy out to all the trick-or-treaters.

wolf 10-20-2006 12:13 PM

I'll be going as a witch, either that or a member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

One of my personal favorite costumes was "Extra from a Mad Max film."

I have to work...In fact I've had to work or be at a football game for the past five years...I don't even know what its like anymore...
If I could dress up tho, I would be...Mother Earth w/ green leotards and baggy brown shirt, leaves and flowers woven into my hair and through my shirt, vines crawling down my arms and legs...
I really wish I could dress up

ferret88 10-20-2006 03:56 PM

I'm gonna be a disgruntled traveller for Halloween.

Clodfobble 10-20-2006 10:43 PM

LJ, is that costume homemade? The logo looks great.

lumberjim 10-20-2006 11:00 PM

yeah, started with a $9 tshirt from the disney store. i had the boots and gloves. i cut the mask out of felt, $0.20 elastic band $1.44. black stretchy underwear $5.90. the big ticket item was the red union suit from carhart $40 shipped (but i'll wear that again this winter, i'm sure) the belt was a piece of fabric $2.60 and velcro to close it $1.44 again. $2 sewing kit...... $62.58. but the only parts i won't continue to use cost $5.68.

zippyt 10-21-2006 01:13 AM

Practical AND a cool outfit !!
Well done Jimbo !!!

Do I read you correctly? You Aussies DON'T celebrate Halloween? Tragic. I'd think Oz would be Halloween Headquarters.

LJ--you look awesome. My nephew is going to be the boy Incredible.

DucksNuts 10-21-2006 05:16 PM

We dont Bri!!! The last few years certain suburbs in the major cities have started their own little halloween/trick or treat thingie.

But other than that we dont, its just another nite.

Occasionally, if someone is having a birthday that weekend, it will be turned into a Halloween party.

JayMcGee 10-21-2006 08:15 PM

mmmmmm......

I admire the US attitude to Hallow'een, and the inventiness they deploy in their costumes and preparations for that night. I reaaly do wish that had been translated over the pond to us in good old Blighty.....

but, sadly, that is not the case....

Rather, it has become not just an occasion when pre-teens can bang upon your door and demand 'trick or treat' without the slightest comprhension of the culture behind that phrase, but also a 'marketing opportunity' for our supermarkets to offload several tons of rather tacky 'hallowe'en party essentials', which consist in the most part of rubberised face-masks that approximate a childs perception of a vampire, and possibly even (in the de- luxe versions) a candle to put inside the (optional extra) turnip head.

wolf 10-21-2006 08:31 PM

As Halloween is a weekday, I will be at work. Although there are people on day shift in nursing that dress up (this is a recent innovation), generally it is not a good idea to put on masks and facepaint around people who already think they see demons.

I do have my Official Pointy Witch Hat, but haven't worn this at work since I moved down to the clinical side.

Just saw it. Very cool.

I'm not sure how these glasses work. The polarization doesn't work like the polarization I've seen before.

Be proactive....have a Halloween party, invite everyone you know....start a tradition. You could be the person named in Wikipedia as being responsible for Halloween taking off down there. :biggrinje

BrianR 10-22-2006 11:57 AM

I will be going in a functional costume: a maid. Since I will be serving at a buffet for a party, it was deemed appropriate. Yes, for ALL ages; there will be children present. So, NO naughty French Maid!

They asked me what I wanted to be at first, so playfully, I said "a princess". THey took off with that and told me I could be Cinderella and in my usual deadpan way I told them that knowing them as I did, they would be mean about it and make me dress as Cinderella Pre-Fairy Godmother, in an old Goodwill dress and soot on my face. We laughed so hard about that that the idea was dropped. Lucky me. So now I get to be a serving maid in a black dress with white trim. Yes, I expect to look silly but so what? It's all in fun anyway.

I'll try to get a postable pic to share after the fact, which is next week.

Brian

Elspode 10-22-2006 05:57 PM

I will be dressed as a Wiccan Priest, since that's what I'll be doing. We have our coven's open Samhain Sabbat on that night (which is also my ninth anniversary this year), but this is the first time we'll be holding it our home.

How cynical Jay! I'll have you know it's also an occasion for splendid traditional treats. And I've attached evidence in case you don't believe me. Tacky consumerism indeed, tcha.

I know the US posters on this site find some of our weapons laws in the UK pretty laughable. While I am quite happy to accept restrictions on sales and carrying of various dangerous items, I admit seeing this poster in my local shop nearly made me drop my biscuits (not a euphemism btw)

As it's come out quite small I'll elucidate - no sales of eggs or flour to unaccompanied under 18s in the period coming up to Halloween and Bonfire Night (November 5th)

Further information here.

Happy Monkey 10-24-2006 11:18 AM

They want all the thrown eggs on Halloween to be pre-rotten?
