Excuse me, I need to go change my shorts...

...as I have just learned that Genesis will do a reunion tour of Europe in the Summer of 2007, to be followed by 20 American dates beginning in September. Collins, Banks, Rutherford, Thompson and Steurmer, the live lineup that was so popular in the late 80's and throughout the early 90's are confirmed, but there has been held out a tantalizing possibility of Gabriel and Hackett possibly participating.

Damn, are they going to make a pile of money. Some of it will be mine.

Undertoad 11-07-2006 03:18 PM

Yes. Yes. For me this is just massively huge, and I am actually thinking about opening a separate savings account so I can be assured of getting the best possible tickets on eBay or StubHub.

Surely they will go for $500 and maybe more, but I can redeem myself for not having seen them all along.

Sheldonrs 11-07-2006 03:20 PM

What's all the excitement about? It's not like it's Manilow. :p

be-bop 11-07-2006 05:26 PM

I loved Genesis at one time, but this reeks of a money making scam
Don't get me wrong it would probably be a great show but their motives for getting back together are very suspect.
There are so many other new bands out there that are doing great stuff if you're into prog Dream Theatre,Porcupine Tree,Spocks Beard to name just a few are Genesis still relevant these days neither prog nor pop if I remember their last few albums..

Undertoad 11-07-2006 07:27 PM

I listen to a ton of new stuff but not prog. That represents a period of my musical life that I treasure and these were the heroes of it at the time. I still love it all.

Ibby 11-07-2006 07:35 PM

Dream Theater (and other associated shredprog) kicks ass, porcupine tree is alright, but prog is mostly dead.

Elspode 11-08-2006 09:18 PM

My favorite Spock's Beard number is "Counting Out Time", if that tells you anything. :)

xoxoxoBruce 11-08-2006 10:45 PM

Genesis? Oh yeah, that big cape with the collar, under blacklights, in a foot deep fog.....floating across the Walnut St Theater stage.

After Foghat finished, of course.

Undertoad 11-08-2006 10:47 PM

Oh F U!!!!!!

Are you sure that wasn't the Tower 1973.

And do you want to go to this next tour together, it will be easier if we carpool.

Elspode 11-08-2006 11:26 PM

Can you guys swing by and pick me up? I'll buy the gas and bring the smoke.

Shawnee123 11-14-2006 03:26 PM

Ass, gas, or grass...nobody rides for free! :)

yesman065 11-14-2006 03:40 PM

Holy shit! I am soooo innnnn please, please, please? The last time I saw them was 80-ish at JFK with a flock of seagulls and some other bands like 4 or 5 can't really remember - much too much :fumette: at the time. Now I gotta call my buddies and find out who was there and what I did. I know I could find some indica somewhere! ! !:bong:

Oh the connections I once had - my my my i am so reminiscing right now of like 70something to - 80 something. Many fractured memories and fragmented thoughts. (holding lighter in air) Dead shows up and down the east coast, Yes, the Who, (took my Dad), Genesis, Gabriel, Zepplin. . . Real Bands with staying power, not these one hit wonders. Partying with the bands afterwards. . . ugghh and what do l have to show for it? Loss of most of the memories and a lotta brain cells.

I first saw Genesis in about 1972 or '73 during the Foxtrot tour. They played in Atlanta at the old Fox theatre, one of the few surviving movie houses from the depression. The inside is like being in a moorish town with a star lit ceiling. At that time it was in disrepair and either was for concerts or crappy movies. I must have been 16 or 17.

The concert was general admission and we waited outside in a long line. I still remember the Atlanta police harrassing us. They kept shouting "stay in line up against the buildings!" and "Do you want to come with me to jail!?" The Atlanta police had a thing for beating up hippie types back then. I also remember an old homeless woman trying to bum smokes. She coughed up something on the sidewalk not far from us.

The concert was great and I still remember Peter Gabrial doing "Watcher of the Skies"

Spexxvet 11-20-2006 01:11 PM

I've seen Gabriel, but never Genesis. Didn't want to after Wind and Wuthering.

Elspode 11-20-2006 10:13 PM

I had fourth row tickets, stage left, for that show. It was great...

Genesis US Dates Confirmed

Too pricey, too far away...too sad for me.

On the bright side, the guys state expressly that they are talking with Gabriel and Hackett about touring The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in the future.

This would pretty much make me need to change *two* pairs of shorts.

Shawnee123 03-08-2007 02:29 PM

Interestingly, there is no corporate sponsor attached to the Turn It on Again tour, top seats for which will sell for $225. "We're not doing it for the money, let's face it," Collins said. "We're not trying to come out of this with a fistful of dollars. It's very rewarding to know there's still people out there that liked us the first time around."

OK then, how about charging 10 bucks a seat?

Is this due to what happens to the back of your shorts or the front? ;)

Because none of the other entities involved will have anything to do with a show that doesn't gross a couple of million before shirts, concessions and other intangibles get involved.

Big shows cost big bucks to produce, but they also gross hugely. Make no mistake...Genesis will sell out every show on this tour, even at huge prices.

be-bop 03-08-2007 05:46 PM

Now call me a cynic (go on I dare ya) but is Mr Collins not had a recent divorce settlement to cough up ?
