It's Neatorama collaboration Monday!

http://cellar.org/2007/fish_robot.jpg

xoxoxoBruce finds this item which is apparently been around for a while, but I hadn't seen it before, so if it's new to me maybe it's new to you.

http://cellar.org/2007/fish_robot2.jpg

Seth Weiner is responsible for this thing - the camera watches where the fish goes, a computer determines where the fish is moving and moves the vehicle in that direction.

The YouTube video of it only makes it a little less mind-boggling; the vehicle doesn't really move that fast. And the fish has a pretty simple nervous system and probably wouldn't figure out, exactly, that it was somehow hooked up to a robot that could actually move it around.

Still, freaky!

Be sure to visit Neatorama for more neato items.

...Why?

This does not bode well for Feminists

Now that the fish has a bicycle, does this mean that women DO need a man?

Especially if they put it in a featureless white room...

Because some people have too much time on their hands.

xoxoxoBruce 02-26-2007 05:14 PM

That sucker needs more power. Bigger motor.... 300 horse power.... maybe some flashing lights and a siren. The kind of siren that makes people get out of the way, not the kind that lures you to crash your bowl on the rocks. :headshake

Wait a minute... this was a Futurama Episode. S1E8 - A Big Piece of Garbage. A prof. makes a 'reverse' SCUBA suit.

Chinditz 03-20-2007 02:19 PM

I want one !!!!!!!

It should be cool watching one of my turtles moving around the room in one of those, chasing my girlfriends buttugly fatass cat.

(and talk about simple nervous system, they are always trying to eat the hand that feeds them (and my girlfriends buttugly fatass cat))

(wich is offcourse one of the reasons i keep the little buggers around)

xoxoxoBruce 03-20-2007 09:06 PM

Hello Chinditz, welcome to the Cellar. :D
Uh...just how big are these attack turtles?

Griff 03-21-2007 06:45 AM

You could speed up the turtles as well...

Thank you for the nice welcome, I discovered this place a couple of days ago and fell heart over heels in love with it.

My 3 turtles (Hannibal Lector, Jeffrey Dahmer and Lizzy Borden, rest assured, serial killer names not chosen for some weird serial-killer fetish but rather to emphasize the sometimes somewhat unpleasant disposition of the turtles to people who despite my warnings still insist on putting their fingers in the turtle-pool) are a little bigger than my hand, about 20 years old and living proof that turtles can exist for years on a diet of Chicken McNuggets, potato chips and shoarma (I lived with a bunch of students way beyond my college-years)

There should be a pick of the biggest one, Hannibal (22 cm shield-size) just above (if I did not screw up the picture-posting thingie  )

It is a nice place isn't it? So I looked at your linked homepage. I like the few pictures that are there.

What is "anti squat" housing? Are you a squatter, or are you an anti-squatter, doing battle with them and tossing them out of their homes to use for yourself?

Chinditz 03-21-2007 11:44 AM

Nope, we live in houses that are due for either deconstruction or improvement and pay a nominal sum for rent, this is mostly to discourage junkies and other vermin from moving in and burning the place down, overdose and lay undiscovered for a couple of months, or fire large handguns at their neighbours which is considered quite rude here. There are actually quite a few former squatters among us (including me before I, to my own eternal surprise found myself employed in law-enforcement and actually enyoing it) its a nice way of living, we have a lot of pleasantly weird people, artists and professional party-goers among us and usualy end up giving huge partys when we "take-over" a area.

Chinditz 03-21-2007 11:45 AM

And it is, off course :" Head over heels"

Preview is not my friend.

glatt 03-21-2007 11:47 AM

Amazing. So who is your landlord? Is it the local government or private land owners?

Chinditz 03-21-2007 11:53 AM

No, its a commercial agency that a friend of mine set-up a couple of years ago, due to the great volume of improvement projects going on here, he is now making money beyond his wildest dreams. Still bummed about not getting in on the action when I had the chance:thepain:

Chinditz 03-21-2007 11:54 AM

Nice kids and impressive number of posts by the way.

That's really neat. I'd never heard of that before.

*starts thinking about vacant buildings in DC area*

xoxoxoBruce 03-21-2007 06:59 PM

Why is Hannibal looking at me like I'm a big chicken nugget? :worried:
