If you are on here asking about end-runs to the AMT then you definitely need a new accountant since it is they who should be advising you how to escape the AMT instead of just delivering it as bad news over which neither of you has any control. BS.

I suggest you learn more about the AMT before you throw stones at my accountant. There is really very little I can do to avoid it. And no making less money is not an option.

The fact that anyone needs an accountant is the problem. Every dollar given to an accountant is no different than more taxes from your pocket as welfare to others who should otherwise be doing something productive.

Meanwhile, those who created the AMT have little idea of what is in tax laws, and do not do their own taxes. First law - all lawmakers must do their own taxes and be subject to a tax review. Guess how quickly the tax law will eliminate tax accountants.

Meanwhile, also spend money for tax software. Government made a deal with tax software companies. The government will not provide tax software. You are expected to pay another tax to tax software companies for their software, for submitting that tax form to the government, etc. because that was the deal offered to tax software companies.

Can that Adobe software 1040 form total up your entries? Yes. But government is not allowed to because of this deal to protect tax software companies.

So you don't believe that our taxes pay for roads. In our state road monies come from three sources, SPLOST funds, State funds, Federal funds. All three come from taxes.

To your questions:

1 -- Yes, ipbuprophen (but only now, after considerable yardwork this weekend. I was unimpaired at the time of my post to which you replied.)

2 -- I paid my fair share of taxes.

3 -- I will have to speculate, since I have no experience as an adult as "ain't paying it". I don't consider paying taxes a pain. The process is painful, but the concept is not. Our country runs on taxes. You and I could have a disagreement about what level of taxes is appropriate, or we could have a discussion about what those taxes should be spent on. But if you're asking me if I find taxes painful, the answer is no.

4 -- This question was difficult to unpack. I think you're asking (actually, I don't think you're asking anything, I think you're just ranting, with a little question mark thingy at the end) is do I agree that the middle class want to shift more of the tax burden to the "uber-rich"? I think most folks do want to pay less, even if someone else has to pay more.

I stand by my original statement. You're going to have to post more facts, more substance if you want to play here. If you just want to complain, go to the Relationship section or something. Over here, facts carry weight, not whining.

Bonus points for not including any tinfoil in your reply though. Maybe there's hope for you.

Seems to me that the best measure is the resultant tax rate. This would be your bottom line tax amount paid divided by your gross income. Turbotax said mine was about 7%
