Why does Coca-Cola Taste Better Than Pepsi ?

Hi fellas!

I know men love their beer but I am doing some research and I need a male point of view on this matter. So I hope you can help point me in the right direction. Gals, I need your opinions as well. Any information I can get will really help me out a LOT.

Thanks a bunch!

Pepsi is TOOOO sweet , Coke is just rite !!!!

ravenranter 04-06-2007 06:21 AM

Coke is too sweet and the level of carbonation seems higher.

When I started drinking diet colas, I preferred Diet Pepsi with lime over any other because I only liked Classic Coke. Diet Coke is vile.

Griff 04-06-2007 06:36 AM

Because Tony drinks a Coke in West Side Story.

Beestie 04-06-2007 06:40 AM

Its not so much that Coke tastes better than Pepsi as much as it is that Pepsi tastes worse than Coke.

xoxoxoBruce 04-06-2007 07:09 AM

Coke is too thick tasting, doesn't quench thirst. Pepsi is too sweet. Diet coke's taste won't go away. Diet Pepsi's not much better but I need the caffeine and hate coffee/tea.

Hi Luisa, miss you.

btw, Coke used to be good in the 6.5 oz glass bottles, but cans and plastic bottles won't take the pressure.

Pepsi tastes better than Coke. It has a slight spiciness to it. But I've pretty much stopped drinking both. That stuff is no good for you.

That was back when it still had cocaine in it.

Diet Pepsi is the best in the bunch. Mostly, I drink Waist Watchers diet rootbeer - it's sweetened with Splenda!

Marketing or, better, "because you think it does".

Setup a double blind test with Coke, Pepsi, and a third cola like RC. Not only will you not be able to tell which one is Coke, but you'll most likely select the non-Coke/non-Pepsi drink as your favorite.

Maui Nick 04-06-2007 10:04 AM

Pepsi=way too much sugar.

Luisa 04-06-2007 10:09 AM

I am partial to Pepsi myself but I have been told that most guys prefer Coke because it tastes better with most food groups. How true is that?

Happy Monkey 04-06-2007 10:25 AM

It's all in the chemicals.

mmmm... tastes like cancer.

jinx 04-06-2007 12:56 PM

I took the Pepsi Challenge at a state fair when I was a kid - I chose pepsi. I think they watered the coke down.
I drink soda maybe once or twice a year... I don't get the fascination.

Pie 04-06-2007 02:45 PM

Diet Pepsi is passable. Diet coke isn't. My favorite: peach Fresca.

Perry Winkle 04-06-2007 04:38 PM

Diet Mountain Dew and Diet Dr. Pepper are my drinks of choice. I drink so fast my stomach turns if I drink the sugared stuff.

I drink so much diet soda I can tell the differences in batches...Anyone remember when they first started doing the Cherry Diet Pepsi and the regular Diet Pepsi had a cherry cough syrup aftertaste? Or was that just an Upstate NY blip?

Also, the sweetness of your soda varies from bottler to bottler. Diet Coke and Diet Dew sold between Charles City, VA and Willis United Methodist Church tastes MUCH sweeter than the stuff they sell in Charlottesville, VA two counties away.

elSicomoro 04-06-2007 05:32 PM

I prefer Pepsi to Coke...not quite as syrupy to me. I prefer Dr Pepper overall though.

Cloud 04-06-2007 05:43 PM

I disagree with Bruce when he said Coke doesn't quench thirst, because I think Coke is a great thirst quencher . . . sometimes.

I agree with Glatt because that stuff is no good for you. As a teenager I drank six pack after six pack of Coke . . . and screwed up my front teeth doing it. Eventually had to have them capped.

lumberjim 04-06-2007 11:14 PM

diet pepsi is too salty. goes flat like immediately, too.

i like diet coke and captain. really, i do.

duck_duck 04-07-2007 03:24 AM

Coca cola is made by elves and pepsi is made by trolls so coke is the superior flavor. :D

Urbane Guerrilla 04-07-2007 05:42 AM

Diet Pepsi tastes more like regular Pepsi. Old-line Diet Coke is astringent -- I've accustomed myself to the stuff because the wife is devoted to it.

But at heart I'm either a Blue Coke (Splenda sweetened) or Coke Zero man (also Splenda'd. Not sure of the difference, and Coke Zero is taking over the shelves.)

Diet Dr. Pepper is successful in resembling its sugared edition too, as are the soda-fountain variations like Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. P, et cetera.

King 05-16-2007 01:11 PM

The real question that nobody is asking is, "Why does Coke taste better from a can than from a plastic bottle?"

xoxoxoBruce 05-16-2007 01:51 PM

It doesn't.

King 05-16-2007 02:00 PM

It really does. Surely I can't be the only one who feels this way?

xoxoxoBruce 05-18-2007 03:28 PM

Of course you're not the only one... you're just all wrong.

Easy answer: It doesn't. :)

Sundae 05-21-2007 04:02 PM

My favourite is Virgin Caffeine Free Diet Cola
But it isn't sold in my local supermarkets (it may not even be on the market any more)

I worked for a field marketing company that did the blind tasting tests in the UK. Trust me, no trickery was involved - when tried at the same time, the majority of people really preferred Pepsi.
