elSicomoro 04-21-2007 11:08 AM

Well, that's what happens when you try to feed them McDonald's. What the fuck did I tell you about that shit?!

duck_duck 04-21-2007 03:24 PM

Great photos! My weekend will not be that exciting.

SteveDallas 04-21-2007 05:19 PM

Fri. AM... get to the office. Mrs. Dallas calls and says a neighbor is having her mom's baby grand piano delivered.. and wants to dump their old upright. When the movers show up they say they'll move the old one to our house for $120. Mrs. Dallas says she has $90 in her pocket and they can have that or a check for $120. They take the cash.

Fri. PM Mrs. Dallas--off to play piano for a rehearsal. Me--off to dress rehearsal for orchestra concert. I drag the kids along, partly so my daughter the cello player can hear the cello soloist. The kids leave the auditorium after 10 minutes in favor of the lounge downstairs.

Sat. AM Mrs. Dallas--off to another rehearsal to pay piano. Son has little league game at 9:30AM, so I take the kids to that. (Daughter doesn't want to go, so of course is sullen etc.)

After the game... bring the kids back home, drop them while I go cash a check at the bank. Mrs. Dallas returns home for about 30 minutes before running out to get her picture taken for the directory at the church where she plays piano.

1 PM --daughter's cello lesson. Son whines because his noise-making ability is curtailed.

Post-lesson.. Kids are whining because I want them to do something besides TV & computer. Mrs. Dallas gets back, we eat lunch, putter around the house, read The Cellar, etc.

7:30PM, Orchestra concert, me playing, Mrs. Dallas listening, kids at home.

Sunday... 8:15AM warm up to play handbells at a couple church services. Mrs. Dallas also playing, and keyboards as well. Quick rehearsal after the services are over, then Mrs. Dallas is off to a meeting and another rehearsal for the afternoon. The kids and I will, meantime, attend two little league games, not to mention having the kids' photos taken for team picture day.

Right. Anybody sorry they asked??

Clodfobble 04-21-2007 05:51 PM

We took the kids to drive by the new house this weekend, and play at the new neighborhood playground. We won't be able to take them inside for another two weeks, but they were excited nonetheless.

Perry Winkle 04-21-2007 06:44 PM

Fri. 13th: National Zoo for 4 hours, would have been 5 but fate decided I would be an hour late. 4 hours of driving to and from.

Fri. 20th, 7:30 PM: Beginner contra dance lesson.
Fri. 20th, 8:30 PM: Contra dancing.

Sat. 21st, 8:00 AM: Gym
10:00 AM: Shower
11:30 AM: Lunch
11:50 AM: Walk
12:35 PM: Try to talk on phone over the sound of a waterfall.
6:00 PM: Dinner, avoiding sideways, prying questions from parents.

Sun. 22nd, 8:00 AM: Gym
10:00 AM: Shower
1:00 PM: Lunch
6:00 PM: Airport or just drive to "Bawlmer"
?:?? PM: Dinner and putz'ing around "Bawlmer"

Mon. 23rd: Start new job.

bluecuracao 04-21-2007 08:08 PM

Friday night, we got the store fully covered and went on a real date! Ventured over to the "see-and-be-seen" Rittenhouse Square, where we had pan-Asian beers and snacks at the least-crowded trendy lounge we could find. There was a little old Russian guy at the bar flirting with all the girls; we chatted a bit while Monkeyboy was outside having a smoke. :D

While outside, MB was approached by a poor lost biker guy, asking if he knew of a bar that "doesn't have all this," wiggling his hands around. So MB directed him to the reliable McGlinchey's a few blocks away. Then we went to see Grindhouse at the Roxy Theatre. If you haven't seen it yet, you oughta--in a theatre, and the older the better.

Saturday, we grocery-shopped at Reading Terminal Market, had beers at the Beer Garden (a must), and tried to find a large propane tank for our grill at Kmart in the Gallery. No luck, so we'll be having pan-fried burgers tonight.

Sunday, I'll be attempting to make our website layout work in GoLive, which I'm trying to learn tonight.

Yeah i had just fed him. we gave him 2kg of horse meat. there are some other shots i got where i stood with my back to the fence and fed him over my shoulder and they lok way cool too. i could feel his breath on the back of my neck. very cool and a very eerie feeling. He was much more gentle than i thought he would be, and he gave us a little roar when we first arrived as he could smell the meat, what a great sound that was.

Elspode 04-22-2007 01:05 AM

Damn...I was sort of enamoured of the notion that you were taunting a huge tiger with a pair of barbeque tongs.

TheMercenary 04-22-2007 07:56 AM

Very good pictures. Thanks.

DanaC 04-22-2007 11:35 AM

Great pics!

My weekend has been way less exciting.

Friday evening: The Royal British Legion (Ovenden Branch) Spring show. Basically that involves sitting in a smoky working men's club listening to mediocre singers massacre golden oldies and a 'comedian' (I use that term with some hesitation) making borderline racist, sexist, homophobic jokes and doing a very bad ventriloquy routine.

Sat: Morning spent posting leaflets through people's doors.
Lunchtime, walk the dog
Afternoon spent posting leaflets through people's doors
Evening, visit my friend whose husband (also my friend) passed away three nights ago. Then settled down to a glass or three of wine and Doctor Who on TV.

Sun: Morning, had a lie in *smiles* how delightful. Then walked the dog. Did an online exercise for a history module.
Afternoon, spent shoving leaflets through people's doors.

duck_duck 04-22-2007 03:54 PM

I've had an exciting weekend of watching DVDs and playing on the computer.

Happy Monkey 04-22-2007 04:38 PM

Just saw Hot Fuzz. Excellent!

So was Shaun of the Dead. I really should track down Spaced.

Thursday- Hung out with some friends and some girls. Got written up.

Friday- Nice day out so I was outside for about four hours and then I celebrated the holiday with some friends, ended up getting much higher than I wanted and ended up passing out on my bed.

Saturday- Played with my band for most of the day and then watched "Godfather 2" and "The Royal Tanabouts" (sp) with my friends and decided our band name is going to be Pagoda.

Sunday- Studied a lot. Just found out that Pagoda is taken.

glatt 04-23-2007 09:40 AM

Saturday: Spent the whole day running from one activity to another. What a busy day.

Sunday: Sharpened the mower blade, mowed the lawn, broke down a bunch of empty boxes in the basement, worried about what to do with the DAMN RACCOON I had just discovered was living in our chimney. AAARGH!

I wrote what I did in detail - then realised how terribly, terribly sad it was. And boring. I couldn't bear to be both so I deleted it.

A precis:
Friday Night watched the spooky but wonderful Derren Brown on 4 and was pleased to spot two NLP techniques in the show. Very good ventriloquist act in his case! If anyone is interested enough I think you can download it for free here, but I haven't tried myself.

Saturday I worked, then came home for more TV, beers and pizza.
Watched Any Dream Will Do, where they are trying to find a Joseph for a new production of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat. Had an intense moment where my llibido woke up and stretched when they were all singing together at the end. Whoooweeeeee! Seamus and Lee in case anyone is wondering. I don't go for men because of their looks, but I think I need to explain this more carefully to my groin.

Spent the laziest Sunday ever (excepting all the other Sundays this year) reading in bed with my boys (cats), eating leftover pizza and drinking leftover beer! Worked vaguely on something I'm writing for the Cellar, then decided it wasn't going to work and wasn't inspired by any other ideas.

This weekend (starting after work Saturday) I'm going to London to have a trial meeting of my cats with my friend's cat, so see if they get on. Yes - I'm nervous.

Hopefully I'll also introduce him to the joys of the Cellar and take some pictures I can post.

I'm so excited! A weekend where I actually do something worth reporting :) Watch this space.

Dagney 04-27-2007 04:27 PM

We spent this past weekend as follows:

Friday night - our weekly 'date night'. We went out to dinner, then puttering through the local Home Depot to pick up some potting soil and flowers. Found a nail in the tire of my car, so we fixed that (did NOT want to buy a new Lexus tire, they are dang expensive!) and hoped that it would fix the puncture - thankfully, it did! Curled up to watch the Who's Line is it Anyway that our TiVo recorded throughout the week for us - and ended up falling asleep sometime.

Saturday, we took a day trip to the NC Zoo - along with half of the population of central NC (it was VERY busy!) We puttered around Saturday evening - because well, frankly, we were too tired and sore to do much else. (Our feet were killing us!)

Sunday - we did a lot of house and garden work. I planted a few herbs in window boxes, some annuals in a box on our drive, and we cleaned off our back porch and got it ready for spring and summer use. We spread some egg gravel in our ornamental memorial garden, and planted some carnations that we'd found and fell in love with. We played with the pictures that we took at the Zoo on Saturday - decided which ones we wanted to post on our websites (not up yet), and had a relaxing al fresco dinner at our local favorite pizza place. Home to relax, hang out, and just be 'us'.

Monday, he went back to work. (Sigh - this 3 month and counting vacation is getting TOOOO long)

duck_duck 04-27-2007 04:55 PM

We might be going to ocean park sunday :D

Political leaflets. Some of the leaflets I deliver are the standard party political leaflets which all parties send out during the month running up to the local elections. Others are third party leaflets which i help with as part of my activities with anti-fascist groups like Searchlight, or Hope Not Hate. Some are newsletters from the local MP.

TheMercenary 04-27-2007 11:59 PM

I am heading out on the boat this weekend. See if we can't finally catch some fish. Sunday we are doing a poker run for the local sheriffs department. They expect about 800 bikes. Should be fun. Forcast is awsome. Back to work at 1 pm on Monday.

Perry Winkle 04-28-2007 07:27 AM

Friday, 4:30 p.m: Met a friend and went for a quick visit to the National Cathedral

5:30ish: Hit Georgetown for dinner. Decent pizza.

7:30: Contra dancing started

12:30: Fell asleep grinning

Cool. You could do a John and Yoko (NSFW) thing for the Dweller NSFW thread. It's what all couples in London seem to do.

As for me, I started with a nasty cold on Friday so this weekend I'll be hanging around the house with hot tea and chicken soup. With the book sale purchases I have a twenty book backlog and I'm not taking all of them to Vegas to read.

Sun_Sparkz 04-28-2007 11:54 PM

this weekend was much more boring. i helped a friend move house (found some biceps i forgot about) - had a chinese dinner and today (sunday) im lazing about the house cooking cornflake cookies

duck_duck 04-29-2007 12:12 AM

I didn't go to ocean park this weekend like I hoped. Oh well maybe another time.

Sundae 04-29-2007 07:52 AM

Sadly, there was a breakdown in communication and I'm here in Leicester this weekend. I have to see if I can get next Monday off to do it next weekend instead (doubtful, as my bosses morphed into the Most Difficult People in the World over the weekend it seems - but that's another story).

Am sitting in an internet cafe next to a man who has obviously never used the internet before. That's not a problem, but the way he is aggressively demanding explanations from the young girl working here is. He is after a specific piece of information and is getting really ratty about the fact she can't present it on a plate from a single page. She is politely suggesting he carries on searching (after 10 minutes showing him the basics) but he's tutting and huffing right now and I know he'll shout across to her for more help soon.

Perry Winkle 04-29-2007 08:02 AM

Saturday: Went to Baltimore, watched movies, ate food. Long day.

godsandmen 04-29-2007 01:46 PM

I've spent the past few days trying to figure out a way to get my newly licensed daughter insured without it driving me into poverty. To add her to my insurance is going to cost me an ungodly amount of money. I've had several quote of over $5,000 per year for the two of us. I'm in SHOCK!

Perry Winkle 04-29-2007 05:25 PM

Muahah, next Sunday my insurance goes down a ton. I'm pumped.

piercehawkeye45 04-30-2007 01:05 AM

It is 12:02 on a monday morning and I still have a hangover from Saturday night. Let you imagination soar.

Undertoad 04-30-2007 06:28 PM

It's not a hangover. It's a tumor.

elSicomoro 04-30-2007 06:52 PM

It's NAHT a TOO-MUH!

Friday: Worked until 9ish, laid low at home after that.

Saturday: Went to a taqueria in the city's Mexican neighborhood and had a pork torta...not bad, but I've had better. It made me sick. Picked up a few CDs at Best Buy.

Sunday: Worked until 7. Came home and ate some bool kogi and rice. Not bad, but not as good as we thought it'd be.

bluecuracao 04-30-2007 07:28 PM

Ugh, what a "blah" weekend it was. Caught that stuffy head/scratchy throat thing that's going around, but still had to put in a lot of hours. I slept most of Sunday, then couldn't fall asleep last night, of course! Feeling a little delirious now.

Cyclefrance 05-28-2007 08:31 AM

With Sunday predicted to be (and actually was) a total washout (rain-wise), the cycle-ride I had planned to do with my pal from north-east of London was moved to saturday afternoon. Nothing to heavy, just a modest 46 miles in a shade over 3 hours, and enough to render me 'unsuitable for purpose' thereafter.

The work which should have been done on Saturday (course re-write which needed to be with the client by Monday - an intensive PowerPoint affair) was thus postponed until Sunday. I had the place to myself anyway as Mrs CF had popped over to Spain with two friends for a week's relaxation (post-hsyterectomy recouperation has been proving frustrating), so no sweat.

Except for that phone call that woke me from my blissful slumber at 02:15 Sunday morning. The mobile was going, and it was wife's ringtone. Now the last time she had called from Espana at such an hour (it was 03:15 there) whilst away with a friend, she had just written off their hire car! So, instantly awake, I jumped out of bed and grabbed the phone. I answered the call, but the line was dead. Not exactly what I wanted. But then the house phone rang. That was in another room. So I rushed to get it, picked it up, and.... dead again. Now I was getting just a little panicky... and the adrenalin was having its usual effect on my internal organs...

I called her mobile - had someone stolen her phone, I thought. Or perhaps it was another car incident. A few rings and Mrs CF answered. 'What is it? are you all right?'

'No.' came the reply. 'We're stuck outside our B&B and can't get the gate to open with the key. Do you think you could look up their number and call them as we don't seem to be able to wake them up, and we're not sure how we are going to get in otherwise.'

Now, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't exactly sympathetic about the reason for being called. Phone me at 3.00am local time, some 2000 miles away, to find a way through a difficult gate?

I chose the easiest option under the circumstances - I found the number and after about 20 times dialling it (it tripped to voicemail after 4 rings so that meant disconnecting and redialling to keep the ring going), I had success. Not that the B&B owner was too excited about the situation either...

Job over, bowels required opening (I know, not a nice image, but I'm trying to be truthful - that's what adrenalin does for you), and I found it almost impossible to get back to sleep afterwards.

Sunday, matchsticks at the ready, I groped my way through the re-write - took ages, hard to stop nodding off. A couple of catnaps gave temporary respite. Mrs CF rang. I don't think I came across very well. The phone went down a bit quick. She couldn't see my side of it really.

Suppose I'll sort it out on Wednesday when she returns (barring any further early hours phone calls from her in the interim... there's still a car that can be written off, handbag that can be stolen containing passports, money, air tickets, driving licence, keys and so on, and a catastrophe with the plumbing that floods the guest-house to possibly endure - I only say this because these things have all actually happened to her before... oh, and , of course, there was that missed flight - damn nuisance these ones that are timed just after midnight - she thought she still had 24 hours left in the place and so didn't go to the airport the night she should have - unfortunately I did, to meet her at the 2.00 am time the flight arrived - make that 3.00 am by the time everyone had come through the exit and I found out for certain that she wasn't on the plane...)

Aliantha 05-29-2007 07:18 AM

Last weekend was very busy.

Friday night I went to my cousins 21st and ended up getting smashed.

Saturday I worked all day and then when bed time came around I was so tired (hangover etc) that I didn't have a good sleep.

Sunday I got up early and did some shopping. 9am a friend arrives to put up framework for a few rooms under our house which I helped with all day.

Sunday night our friend and his wife stayed for dinner and we had a few drinks again so I went to bed half pissed...late.

Monday morning I woke up and wondered where my weekend went.

Griff 05-29-2007 07:47 AM

We took Lil' Griff to Odyssey of the Mind / Worlds in Michigan. Good stuff. It makes you feel better about humanity to see really bright creative kids in a clump like that. Williamsport, PA really kicked butt, taking home a bunch of prizes. Sherburne, NY did well too although a sceptic would have some doubts about the level of parental involvement in one of their skits. Lil' Griff had big fun trading pins with kids from Japan, Singapore, Wisconsin... all the foreign spots.

Gardening, BBQ, and fencing yesterday.

glatt 05-29-2007 08:50 AM

nice weekend.

Got out pretty early and went hiking on Saturday. Went to a very popular local trail, but we were early enough to avoid most of the crowds. Then the neighborhood pool had its season opening, so we went to the pool for the afternoon. Sunday I did a bunch of very dusty home improvement work, demolishing much of the plaster in our bathroom and then just hung out while the rest of the family went back to the pool. Then went over to some friends for awesome ribs for dinner. Monday, the holiday, we kicked the soccer ball around the back yard and I pushed the kids on the rope swing a lot, then went to the pool for a few hours. Dinner was a rare restaurant excursion for Mexican and a couple awesome margaritas.

Your culinary experiences must be awful to classify something that made you sick as "not bad."

We spent nearly the entire long weekend at the pool. Nice. Cookout at some friends last night. I avoided all manner of alcohol. Well, maybe one beer. I did get some yard work in. Die you pesky clover!

I didn't see this earlier for some reason. That's awesome that Lil' Griff's team made it to the Worlds! You must have flown to be back that fast for the fencing.

I did OM back in high school, and it was a lot of fun. It was called Olympics of the Mind back then. That was back before the lawyers got involved.

Friday, 6pm: set odometer, leave

Friday, 11pm: arrive, 230 miles later at a friend's infamous house, Key West. It's boozin' time.

Sat, 10am-12pm: margaritas, beach, margaritas, and entertainment courtesy "Brian", who just left his wife - and rehab - and has been getting drunk at the bar in Key West for 3 or 5 days. He shakes uncontrollably. He has lost his car keys, his clothes, his sobriety, his wife, and now his car. He cries in his vodka.

Sat, 12pm - 7pm: Brian was a real downer. We leave to walk the streets of Key West for Lobster fest. We eat lobster, shop, have fish sandwiches at BO's for lunch, return to the clubhouse for a swim and margaritas, Half Shells for lobster/clam/oyster dinner, and for dessert - frozen, chocolate-covered key lime pie on a stick. Ba-donk-a-donk, indeed.

Sat, 10pm: boys decide it's going to be a titty bar night, which is, conveniently, two blocks away. Em stays home with the girls, I put on my best slutty shirt and accompany the men to make sure they have a good time - but not too good - and find their way home. B calls the strippers over by shouting "whore", while N calls one Zsa-Zsa and screams no way in hell - he won't tip strippers older than him. She left the stage immediately. This is only the beginning of the antics I can't repeat at this time for fear of implicating myself and/or others. I still can't believe we didn't get thrown out.

Sun, 4 am: arrive back at the Sugar Shack, piss drunk, smelling of stripper stink, ATM cards still cooling off. B has finally stopped shouting "whore". Em is awoken by a deafening and deliberate belch into her room, and drunkards scrounging for food.

Sun 8 am: who isn't pissing, and swallowing aspirin?

Sun 10am: breakfast, more of Duval Street, lunch in Islamorada, and then the looooooong drive home.

And now I can't sleep...
