Thanks a lot for the manfleshes! Give the wife a kiss for me. We are going to Florida in Sept, (Disney) I didn't realize the beaches were so neat. Is it always windy?

zippyt 06-06-2007 01:03 PM

Noppers , we are just catching the tail of TS Barry ,
Sunday and monday were pretty rough surf wise , but it has setteled down pretty nice today.
But hey its the BEACH , and well the beach is WINDY !!

wolf 06-06-2007 01:21 PM

DisneyWorld is nowhere near the beach, although I think that DisneyCorp has been talking about relocating the Atlantic Ocean for business purposes.

I think you meant sharks.

lizzymahoney 06-06-2007 02:52 PM

They've filled in wetlands, why not dredge out a quarter of the state...

Disney is easily an hour from the nearest beach. Orlando is closer to the east coast or New Smyrna and Daytona Beach. Disney visitors usually stay in Kissimmee, Kih-SIM-mee.

Destin is a long haul from Disney. I'd guess it could be ten hours or so. That's a major appeal of Destin, that of being out of the way. The beaches along the gulf coast of Florida, especially the panhandle where Destin is, are flat and white with small waves and not a lot of detritus. Shelling varies, but the upper gulf beaches are not known for shells the way Sanibel and Marco Island are, well south of Tampa.

Having always lived at the beach or close enough for jazz, the beach isn't windy until your ears hurt. The prevailing winds are definitely noticeable where large bodies of water meet large bodies of land. That serves to keep the midges and flies and fleas away from you, cools you off from the burning sun, and dries out your bathing suit in no time.

Cute bride, zippyt. Great pics and stories.

zippyt 06-06-2007 03:53 PM

Ah Zip, can't we stay one more day? I was having sooo much fun.

TheMercenary 06-10-2007 09:45 PM

We vacation on the Panhandle coast every year. The last few we have rented a beach house as well. A very relaxing period. We always take the teens and let them each bring a friend so we don't have to hear about how bored they are on day 2. Great pics. You can pay between $2000 and $8000 for a week in a nice beach house but the cost is well worth it for the week of the get away.

zippyt 06-11-2007 12:50 PM

Merc , we figuered that out YEARS ago , generly we rent a 3 bedroom condo , Not quite as expencive as a house ,

But since Jennifer and Larry were getting married we rented a BIG ol House !!!
