Kathy Griffin Rocked That Shit!

Some are saying Kathy Griffin made an offensive speech at the emmys.
The EMMYS! Her SPEECH offensive!
Yeah, ok... sure, so we don't read the lyrics anymore, right, and we turn a blind-eye to the deals the artists are getting?
Offensive, what a fucking joke!

"A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus," an exultant Griffin said, holding up her statuette. "Suck it, Jesus. This award is my god now."
The Catholic League called it a "hate speech".
I think they are being punk-ass-bitches who can't take what they dish-out regular.
Also, you cannot be a bigot, or bigoted, about something that is a CHOICE. :whofart:
Good for Kathy.
I am SO GLAD someone finally said it!
God/Jesus/Allah/The Easter Bunny does not give a FUCK about your stupid award you idiot!

How about Sally Field?

Elspode 09-18-2007 02:52 AM

Someone somewhere needs to grow a sense of humor. I'm just sayin'.

elSicomoro 09-18-2007 03:08 AM

There was some full-page ad on the back of USA Today by some Christian group that performs at a venue somewhere in Tennessee...I thought it was funny, as well as what Griffin said.

I see a guy from the Catholic League on MSNBC on occasion...I believe his name is William Donohue, and he comes across as a mean piece-of-shit.

The Emmy's are censoring her comments on E!
What a fucking joke!
Nothing religious is offensive, it is just an opinion.
Morons.

i don't get what the big deal on either side of this is. People who believe her statement to be blasphemous make a statement. Should they get a personal apology for it? no, not unless she actually regrets what she said. The network heard what she said and decided not to air it. They would have done the same thing if she'd inserted Mohammed or Abraham in there, so it was fair play.

Then they should censor all of the "this award belongs to Jesus" also.
All religious references positive and negative need to be censored if that is what they are going to do.

lookout123 09-18-2007 02:06 PM

so the claim is that her right to free speech has been violated? if that is what has your panties in a twist you're wrong. Kathy Griffin has the right to say just about anything she wants, just about anywhere she wants - just like you and I. The network has the right to decide if airing a statement or anything else would cause more problems than they want to deal with.

If the claim is that this a ridiculous overblown non-event, then you're right.

rkzenrage 09-18-2007 02:12 PM

I agree that it has been blown out of proportion.
A LARGE part of that is the censorship by the network.
But, again, if they are going to censor this they need to do it across the board with all religious commentary regarding the awards.

I'm certain that if someone said the same thing about Mohammed they would censor it.

Just as I'm certain that if someone got up there and thanked Allah for blessing them with the ability to write, direct, star in a role they would air it.

Personally I couldn't care less what any of these people say. Why do we feel they are important again?

Cloud 09-18-2007 02:32 PM

I agree with rkzenrage. If they are going to censor Jesus out of there, they need to censor Jesus out of rest of the responses, too. Makes no difference whether you are thanking him or not.

rkzenrage 09-18-2007 03:19 PM

I have always found it to be very funny that if something good happens it is always god's glory but if something bad happens or something good does not happen it is never "jesus just did not come through for us today".
That is a real cushy set-up he has going for him huh?
It would be AWESOME to hear a post-Emmy/Oscar interview with a loser who said, "yeah jesus really dropped tha' ball on this one".

Bullitt 09-18-2007 03:39 PM

People are just too afraid to offend anyone else anymore. Say what you want to say, if someone else doesn't like it's their problem. She knew it would be an inflammatory remark to conservative Christians, so she said it. Whoopdedoo. What else is on?

rkzenrage 09-18-2007 03:42 PM

Why is it inflammatory? It's not.

Flint 09-18-2007 03:52 PM

I don't think that, just because she is an entertainer, she can't be referring to a real problem here; IE the confusion between God as a representation of what is morally right, and God as a representation of what is in someone's personal best interests.

It doesn't seem like such a big deal at the "let's win this football game" level, but when you get up to the "let's start a bloody, devastating war over it" level, it does become a problem for all of us, believers or otherwise. Maybe learning to flip the TV channel is a best first step, before we escalate to genocide, conquest, etc.

Bullitt 09-18-2007 03:52 PM

Obviously it is to some if people are getting riled up about it. I'm not saying they should be, woohoo one weird lady's remark while receiving an award that'll really go down in the history books. If a person doesn't like what she said they need to just forget about it and move on with their life because it's pointless to get upset at one person's very brief remark. People do worse stuff everyday besides make a verbal remark that comes off offensive.

Godaclause hohoho.
Lot of idiots out there.

deadbeater 10-01-2007 03:34 PM

Bill Maher doesn't even say that. 'Nuff said.

How about god as somebody's invisible friend who is too old to have an invisible friend "helping them get an award"?
You put that out there then get your panties in a wad when someone pokes fun at you then you need help.
You should expect it.

Flint 10-01-2007 04:13 PM

And if it's not even "safe" to poke fun at "God helped me win an academy award" then imagine what would happen to someone who questioned "God wants us to win this war"! Ha! Our society is hopelessly skewed towards the illogical if the voice of reason isn't even being heard.
