Tip Mug will fill from now on

Each month you can track how well the Cellar is doing monetarily. Since Google ads kick in $80 of the approximately $225/month costs, it will usually start a third full. Every month it will reset.

Only two of you have sent mug donations in the last 2.5 months, and I remain poorer than I thought I might be at this point. :sniff: Your support of the Cellar definitely does help it continue on.

Enjoy the guilt trip, you freeloaders! :D

lumberjim 10-20-2007 12:24 PM

if you had some type of automated billing thing in place, you could do much better. i set my credit union up to send what jinx and I (that makes it 3 people, actually) send automatically. I know it's a pain for you to go cash the checks, though.....if it was billed to my cc, it would be easier.

paypal is a pain in the ass.

DanaC 10-20-2007 01:08 PM

I don't mind using paypal. It is very convenient, as long as I have money in the bank to cover it.

lookout123 10-20-2007 01:14 PM

i wonder if i could set up some sort of tip mug for my clients to see how much more i need to make every month... eh, probably not.

anyway, thanks for the reminder UT.

monster 10-20-2007 02:13 PM

btw, ime, google checkout is cheaper and better than paypal (it's free until the end of 2007) I use the email invoice method of payment. i've hear good things about the other method too, though.

Thanks for the guilt trip -I got halfway through tipping last week, got distracted and timed out. (story of my life) I guess as far as I got must have been enough to satisfy my need to pay if not your need to be paid, 'cause I forgot about it since then. ;) will do it tonight.

monster 10-20-2007 02:21 PM

Done.

Clodfobble 10-20-2007 02:27 PM

Side note: if you still can't see the liquid in the mug, like I couldn't, clear your cache (Tools --> Internet Options --> Delete Files in Internet Explorer) and then refresh the page.

Cicero 10-20-2007 03:39 PM

I need to send cash....I'm not doing pay pal.

What the heck am I going to do now?!? I always tip at coffee shops! At least a buck a day.

Pay pal isn't so friendly.

lookout123 10-20-2007 04:22 PM

so how often will i see it move? i want to see it move. if i drop a series of $1 tips in there will it move, or does it have to be larger chunks of moolah? Can you break it down into $.25 increments? i want to see it i want to see it.

i think there should be a special bonus system. If we can get the mug filled BEFORE the tenth of the month UT must post an amusing youtube clip of himself. i can't get over how much he sounds like Jon Favreau (sp?).

I stopped using Paypal once they required a bank account number, so I haven't had much experience with it lately. But I just tried Google checkout a few weeks ago for some online purchase, and it worked very well. All I needed to give them was my credit card number. I'm in their system now.

UT, I'm sorry I've basically ignored the tip jar all these years. I hit it once, I think, a few years ago. And I bought some jewelry from Katkeeper last year, but that hardly counts. I'll hit the tip jar again if you use something that doesn't want my bank account number, like Google checkout, but I just don't use Paypal any more.

DucksNuts 10-20-2007 06:52 PM

Ya guilt tripping bastard you!!

Seriously though, if I could figure out a way to have to deduct automatically, I would.

I only do it when I remember.

DucksNuts 10-20-2007 06:53 PM

Umm.....blonde moment here.....where can we see how full it is??

We've never given paypal our account number. they asked us to, but we ignored it :) still works. but it does suck.

...ooh it works! took foreverto empty the cache, though -perhaps i should do that more often!

DucksNuts 10-20-2007 07:31 PM

Ahhhh, thanks clod and monster :)

Exactly what kind of liquid is in the tip mug? All I can think of when I see it is that I have to go pee.

Oh, and that I guess I have to help fill the jar.

I hope I don't get the two confused.

monster 10-20-2007 08:11 PM

It's tea, rich. Brit breakfast tea with a dash of milk. now all I need is the rich teas. (Brit cookies made for dunking...)

You might want to visit a urologist.

That's ok. I already know how to play the piano.

And the only way to get that color is with buttermilk.

Undertoad 10-20-2007 10:43 PM

Note that the Mug is now full!

Thanks to all of you generous benefactors!

It will reset on Nov. 1... to a point already well more than half full!

DanaC 10-21-2007 04:19 AM

Thanks for the reminder on that Bruce. I made a couple payments ages ago, then was gonna drop some in about a month ago and the bastard kept timing out on me.

Prolly best to keep bumping this thread every month.

DucksNuts 10-21-2007 05:32 AM

Bruce?

Aliantha 10-21-2007 07:29 AM

I looked today and the mug was half full, and now tonight it's full.

Just goes to show that the sqeaky wheel gets the grease!

I second the motion to remind us all more often. Like pretty much everyone else here I take it for granted most of the time. Thanks for keeping the site going UT. I do appreciate it, and the work you do and the expense you go to, even though we rarely seem to see eye to eye on much. ;)

I'll try and get my shit together and donate again soon. I haven't done so for some time, so I guess it's about that...ummmm...time.

Once again, thanks. And I think the filling up idea is a good one.

On the Cellar, I like people who are different than me.

Aliantha 10-21-2007 04:50 PM

I guess if everyone was of the same mind it'd turn into another one of those sickly sweet forums where everyone spends all day kissing everyone else's arse huh?

BigV 10-21-2007 06:38 PM

alternate idea

you could make each users title fill from left to right in proportion to the amount they contributed each month relative to the number of posts, or number of views. fill in the background color or change from std to boldface...

I believe I'd never get my first letter changed.

should submit name change request to become "Freeloader"

Aliantha 10-21-2007 06:45 PM

haha...nice suggestion. Guilt people into contributing. Very good. lol

xoxoxoBruce 10-21-2007 07:12 PM

I must admit I've been remiss in that duty, but on the upside it did spur UT to fix the tip jars graphics so we can be entertained by the filling every month.

We will see it fill every month, won't we.

DanaC 10-21-2007 07:28 PM

Of course we will !

DucksNuts 10-21-2007 07:33 PM

You remind me every month, Bruce, and I will do my bit :)

lumberjim 10-21-2007 07:35 PM

will you do my 'bit' too?

DucksNuts 10-21-2007 07:39 PM

Is your bit bigger than mine? I do have standards you know

lumberjim 10-21-2007 07:44 PM

hmmm...a bit.

busterb 10-22-2007 02:32 PM

Just where is the tip mug graphic? Perhaps I'm losing my sight?

Clodfobble 10-22-2007 02:43 PM

Center of the page, at the very very bottom.

LabRat 10-22-2007 02:44 PM

Neato Frito!! Although the mustard yellow color is a little icky...

Is it meant to be beer? perhaps brown would be better.....coffee brown, that is.

:D

No seriously....I need to find a way to tip. Help.

Undertoad 10-22-2007 03:50 PM

We can use Google Checkout!

If we represent a valid 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization based in the US and say so on the site.

Undertoad 10-22-2007 03:52 PM

The color started off as beer, but now it's coffee with cream. Actually I like to think that it's the color of the mug, not some beverage in the mug since the mug is transparent.

Also, it's meant to be a half-assed cartoony thing, so no complaints about the sucky job done with it.

lookout123 10-22-2007 03:52 PM

paypal takes my credit card and/or debit card with no account numbers necessary. you only have to provide your account numbers if you want to be verified. you don't need that for most things.

DanaC 10-22-2007 03:54 PM

Yep. That's how I use paypal. I used to do the whole bank account thing. But when I changed my bank account, I never got around to validating it. Haven't missed it. Just use my debit card.

 my org is a 501c3 but have never told google so. I know Googgle is staying free for donations for 501c3s until 2009, but for all others, it's free until end 2007 then 2% + 20c per transaction -less than paypal. No mention of charitable status.

Did they move the goalposts and I missed it? ......No, Britnet just started using google and they're not 501c3 either.

am confused

Undertoad 10-22-2007 05:15 PM

Do they just take donations or do they sell stuff? Maybe we here could "sell" subscriptions or something, but then it becomes a whole 'nother problem.

monster 10-22-2007 05:33 PM

hmm, yes Britnet "sells subscriptions", but you can pick your rate in multiples of $5 and all get the same access. Peeps in Texas have to add sales tax. I invoive people specific amounts, so that's not the same either.

oh well, worth a try

Maybe you've got your tight arse goggles on? (wish I'd thought of that) ;)

richlevy 10-22-2007 10:19 PM

What we need are incentives like custom user titles available only to contributors.

How about something like -

Congratulations. For your support of the Cellar and the Whale Penis you have been named an Honorary Doctor of Cetacean Priapism.

Congratulations. For your support of the Cellar, home of Labrat's ass, you have been named a Patron of the Arse.

Clodfobble 10-23-2007 10:24 AM

buster--Yes, that's where it should be. No idea why it's not displaying for you...

HungLikeJesus 10-30-2007 06:23 PM

Whenever I scroll down and see "Help fill the mug...," I think "From here?"

BigV 10-31-2007 11:40 AM

Yeah.... deep too.

Aliantha 11-01-2007 07:11 PM

ok, I just donated. anyone else with me? The mug is looking pretty empty.
