Snow Day!

... so now what do I do?

monster 12-04-2007 07:07 AM

drink.

classicman 12-04-2007 07:13 AM

Go Play in it! Find a kid, preferably your own, or some friends and go sledding or something!

Cloud 12-04-2007 08:53 AM

pop in movies and drowse by the fire.

alternatively, you could clean out your underwear drawer.

Ibby 12-04-2007 09:04 AM

fuck you
FUCK YOU ALL

ALL OF YOU, YOU HEAR?

...i'm so jealous of all you 'winter' people, you 'snow' people.
fuck you allll....

Griff 12-04-2007 09:14 AM

Sorry lad.:thepain: You'll get back to the States soon enough though.

xoxoxoBruce 12-04-2007 10:25 AM

@Ibram. Find a friend with heavy dandruff.

jester 12-04-2007 10:33 AM

Oh, to be so lucky to have a wee bit of the white stuff

(not, dandruff)

jinx 12-04-2007 10:36 AM

*cough* I hate winter. *hack*

Sundae 12-04-2007 02:40 PM

I envy you too.
And unlike Ibram I don't have a snowy country to go home to.

BIG SIGH

Unless the next ice age comes soon I will have to think about leaving my beloved country behind one day. I was out in a jumper with 3/4 length sleeves, a denim skirt and trainers without socks today. AND I WAS TOO WARM. In December.

Thank everything I'll be a few stones lighter next year and therefore less insulated. Sweating in December is obscene and I refuse to move more slowly.

TheMercenary 12-04-2007 02:49 PM

HA! HA! HA! Snow... no thanks. It was 77 degrees in Savannah the day before yesterday. I hope to never live where it snows again. Great to visit, but live with it, no thanks. It was 37 this am and about 60 out now, midday, and I am still wearing shorts. Please keep all snow up North, thanks. :D

monster 12-04-2007 03:00 PM

WE got caught in a blizzard on Saturday, but it's all melted for now. Soon come, though.

How many snow angels did you make, Griff? I love snow. been here 7 years, still not sick of it. Yet to see a really deep dig-a-path-to-your-front-door fall, though. 2 foot is about the most. The last several-footer was just a few months before we arrived.

Cicero 12-04-2007 03:25 PM

Griff, I already posted this in "post whore" but I think this is a pretty good suggestion for a snow day.

Feeling snowed in? Try this!

Said the man in the middle of drought central.

I saw half a dozen flakes today too. Not enough to say with a straight face that it was snowing, but there were snowflakes (plural) falling from the sky here in DC today.

Shawnee123 12-04-2007 04:16 PM

Supposed to start snowing here in a couple hours. Lucky for me, I am in a hotel and don't have to go anywhere to get anything I need. I like snow if I am home looking out at it, for about a day, esp since I live on the river. Then it gets icy and slushy and dirty and I don't care for it.

The girls + cousins spent the whole day out in it. We didn't get a lot (maybe 6 inches plus drifting from the wind) but the squalls were timed with drive time so it closed things down without being a big shovel event. I ran the cousins back home in the Suzuki. It passed the test.

ZenGum 12-04-2007 09:58 PM

What's this "snow" stuff you're all talking about?
Is it any good? Where can I try some?
;)

Shawnee123 12-05-2007 09:53 AM

I'm glad we came to pre-conference yesterday. Got a nice bit of snow which I can watch safely from the hotel. The first real snow of the season, people forget how to drive.

Zen, I'll mail you some from Ohio.

Happy Monkey 12-05-2007 11:03 AM

First real snow of the winter in DC today.

classicman 12-05-2007 11:11 AM

We are getting it too!! Here in Philly burbs! This is awesome!!

Razzmatazz13 12-05-2007 12:59 PM

Crazy snow here again...my dad left a few hours ago to get me some non-bald tires...and isn't back yet

Spectacle 12-09-2007 04:29 AM

First time we've had snow in December in two years, I think.

Cicero 12-10-2007 11:43 AM

A very large system is moving in today...but we can only expect a couple inches at our altitude...Just enough snow to have dangerous driving conditions but not enough to get snowed in.....My house slippers want me back this morning, they miss me....I wish....So far it's just raining a very cold rain. How annoying....last year at this time people were snowed in here everywhere. So far, just cold rains...I want to dig myself out and away from work, go sledding, make hot chocolate, and a snow-man.
:)

melidasaur 12-10-2007 06:17 PM

I don't mind snow... which was received last week. It's pretty, it melts easily. You don't have to chip it off your car. I hate the ice and ice accumulation. We're under an ice storm warning here in Central Illinois that is to go until midnight Tuesday. Ice sucks.

Cicero 12-11-2007 10:57 AM

melidasaur...

I can remember some ice storms in Illinois from when I was a kid...That is rough...It got so bad one year that it was almost impossible to walk outside...

I remember having to be thrown a screwdriver to chip knee holes in the ice to get up a hill back to our house in our neighborhood...Now that is icy, and I often forget how central Illinois can freeze over.

melidasaur 12-11-2007 12:43 PM

So far, we've been spared. It's been raining for about a day and the temp is hovering around 33. It's a sloppy mess, but if the temp ever drops, it will be really bad.

School is out!

Griff 12-13-2007 09:07 AM

We could get 10" today.

Shawnee123 12-13-2007 10:18 AM

Oh baby I've been looking for 10 inches.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

We have namby pamby weather right now...just rainy and crappy. I love summer rain but this just sucks.

I wish we'd get a big blizzard so they'd close the college (which they hardly ever do.)

Razzmatazz13 12-13-2007 01:07 PM

yep, snowin purrrdy hard here...I'm in the darkish blue areas on that shot as well.

glatt 12-13-2007 01:43 PM

I got a notice that our Boston office closed at 2PM for the snow. My parent flew out of Boston this morning to come here. They got out in the nick of time.

TheMercenary 12-14-2007 05:20 AM

In the 80's in Savannah yesterday. I just had a hard time trying to figure out which pair of shorts I wanted to wear to work yesterday. :D

Eat your heart out snow-dwellers.

classicman 12-14-2007 07:31 AM

:finger:

Stormieweather 12-14-2007 07:52 AM

I want a snow day!!! But no, it's 80+ degrees and feels nothing like winter here in Florida.

It does get old after a while. A little change in temp would break up the monotony nicely. Supposedly going to drop a bit over the weekend...how exciting!

Shawnee123 12-14-2007 08:08 AM

I guess they're expecting a "winter storm" over the weekend. Of course, our local media starts freaking out about what we laughingly call "The White Death" the second a few snow flakes start. It's not that we're not used to snow, it's just something to keep them on the air I guess.

Meh, I love snow.

ViennaWaits 12-14-2007 10:52 PM

Shawnee, where in Ohio are you?

I drove a school bus in that crap last week. I can't believe Groveport didn't cancel school. Of course, they cancelled Friday, when the worst was over. I spent over an HOUR to get 3 miles on Gender Road Wednesday morning. I was ready to KILL someone.

I'm hoping it really pukes on us this weekend. Maybe they'll close school. LOL

no snow....but the ice sure was pretty.

ViennaWaits 12-14-2007 11:55 PM

LJ, it is! I love being able to look at it from the inside... like I will be this weekend. :)
It's when I have to drive in it, be that in my car or the school bus.
SCARY!

Razzmatazz13 12-15-2007 12:17 AM

Yay, thanks LJ! I'll try and get some photos of our snow up soon too :)

Urruke 12-15-2007 02:18 AM

Wow. living in the ice storm area must suck. How do you get an ice storm anyway? Does it like rain ice, or just rain and freeze instantly? I mean we have had blizzards here, but how does a treebranch become a popcycle?

the latter ....nasty while it's happening, but pretty the next morning while its melting

Lots of snow overnight here, more coming down, I'm thinking no school tomorrow -they're barely managing to keep the main roads plowed by all accounts. Wheeeeeeeeee! I love snow :D

xoxoxoBruce 12-16-2007 12:18 PM

That's great, Monster! Now all the kids in the 'hood, can come play in your house.
Bwahahahahahahaha.

Griff 12-16-2007 08:02 PM

Nice snow cover! We missed this weekend's mess by a whisker. We'll have school delays but they should be open. Looking like a white winterval... er Christmas! ;)

busterb 12-17-2007 11:37 AM

No snow, but was white here this am. Think the Fig tree learned not to bud in Dec. 27º. Still waiting for ice to melt in toilet. Too cold to use the outhouse.

shina 12-17-2007 02:44 PM

I see a fort waiting to be built so the likds can blast all the passersby with snowballs.

monster 12-17-2007 03:19 PM

Tis not building snow -too fine, too cold. But some great fun was had sledding on the golf course this afternoon (I was right, no school). we got about the same again as you see in the pictures. At some point the temperature will raise a little and it will become buildable. They'll probably hollow out the snow pile to the left off my drive to make said fort.

Only downer was we got up to a two foot high, four foot wide pyramid wall of ice barricading the (already cleared) driveway, courtesy of the snowplow team, so we had to dig out before beest could go to work. I think the buggers get a sadisitic high knowing what they're leaving for us.

Griff 12-17-2007 08:40 PM

Two hour delay this morning so I hiked down to borrow the tractor... and Dad was already clearing the driveway. Good man.

monster 04-06-2009 06:04 AM

SNOW DAY!!!! yup 6th April. it doesn't realy look that bad out there, but I guess they don't know how much more is coming and there are still snow days to use up...... I was so sure it wouldn't be one I didn't check before the kids woke up.... thank goodness I did check before we left! It's beest's birthday, though, so they were happy to get up to give him his presents and now we have a huge bonus day ahead of us to prepare for the arrival of Banana Lady on Weds. And boy do we need it!

Trilby 04-06-2009 09:15 AM

SNOW DAY?!?!

It was Near-Tornado here in Southern Ohya. Ground is too warm for any snow to stick...at least that is what I'm hoping...

monster 04-06-2009 10:40 AM

Our ground is warm too, but it's coming down faster than it can melt. We have about 4 inches sitting, although the roads are pretty clear. I think the warm ground made it very slippy for the commute, though.

By the way, we're coming to Dayton on Sat Evening

Heh...the Winds of Death Are Coming story was all over Ch 7 News as always. Then the tornado alarms went off in my town. I didn't budge: what the heck am I gonna do? If the damn Winds of Death want me, they can come and get me. I was thinking last night how weird I am: I thought about a tornado killing me and thought "what an intense way to go" and then I thought about surviving a tornado and thought "what an intense experience" and certainly worthy of a story in Reader's Digest.

Beest 04-06-2009 11:15 AM

By the time I was driving, around 8 am , the increasing predictions of 5"-10" until 8 PM changed to "severe weather alert cancelled, additional snow maybe 1". not even an oops, our bad

xoxoxoBruce 04-06-2009 12:10 PM

Happy birthday, Beest. :birthday:

TheMercenary 04-06-2009 12:19 PM

Curse you Al Gore! Curse YOU! :tinfoil:
We are expecting 2 nights in the low 30's tonight and Tuesday night. Of course right after I planted my new veggie plants.
