Moderator voting thread

Please vote for no more than two people, to be Cellar moderators through the end of the year. The top two will be selected. The term of this office will be through 12/31/2008.

Nominees are listed in order of nomination. All user names are lower case because I was too lazy to look up 22 entries to check on upper-lower case.

The job is:
Quote:

Moderators are added to the list of email addresses that get notified when someone reports a post. One would remove spam and forum abuse and things like this.

Moderators can do the following:
- Edit, move, delete posts
- Edit, move, copy, open/close threads
- Post announcements (make posts "sticky" at the top of the forum)
- View IP addresses
- Ban users
This is not a popularity contest but a way to figure out who should have additional power for the benefit of the community. Full disclosure: although I have the ability to see who voted for whom, I won't peek, I sincerely promise.

The vote will be open for four days, ending at approx. 5:30 pm EST Jan. 10. Thanks all for participating.

Sperlock 01-06-2008 06:29 PM

You may want to expand the term of office to go beyond the past. ;)

Undertoad 01-06-2008 06:44 PM

Year edited, thanks :D

ZenGum 01-06-2008 09:58 PM

Please don't vote for me. As I mentioned, my future visiting the cellar is very uncertain, and I'd have to decline.
I guess I was a bit too diplomatic about it. By Japanese standards that was a blatant refusal. I have to keep recalibrating my social expectations every time I log in to visit you noisy rude pushy westerners ;)

Recycle

I originally wrote a longer version of the following for a different thread, but seeing zero votes by so many names (including, thankfully, mine :sniff:), I thought it would be fun to recycle it (really, I'm just too lazy to write something new). I hope nobody takes it seriously.

This thread makes me feel
a little bit sad -
no, not for those who didn't make the list,
that's not so bad -
but for those who did
but still have a lonely little zero
sitting by their name.

...

Eyes sting, ears ring,
dry lips twitch, and nostrils flair,
fingers run through sweat-soaked hair,
and in the center, the popular people
tell themselves it's not polite to stare.

kerosene 01-07-2008 08:38 AM

I think you just got a vote for your campaign poem. Way to go, there. :D

ZenGum 01-07-2008 09:10 AM

Ibram, if I do get elected, your posts are going to suffer. :p
;)

SteveDallas 01-07-2008 11:07 AM

I understand that results will likely change by the end of the voting period. But it seems appropriate to ask now, when a final outcome is still hypothetical.

At the moment there is a tie for first place between three different people. Is there a procedure in place for tie-breaking?

BigV 01-07-2008 11:48 AM

I suggest runoff voting

Undertoad 01-07-2008 01:01 PM

I'm certain that we can figure a way.

classicman 01-07-2008 01:04 PM

I concur

i was all excited when i saw that i had 6 votes.....then i was relieved when i saw bruce, wolf, and the other 2 serious candidates(glatt, and clobble) out pacing me. There's not a lot of glory or revenge in it, afterall...

OMG, not Mental Jim!

Bruce defended me once, so I vote for him. :D

Hi, I'm television's Flint™

My response to this statement is a toss up between, 'lucky you' and 'you're so cheap'.

classicman 01-07-2008 10:25 PM

I'm leanin on the cheap side

Mad Max, of course!

classicman 01-07-2008 10:36 PM

Isn't that for another thread or is it a mutation of the two?

I defended you several times, but you never fucking noticed. I guess you only do direct. Or do you deduct defence point for direct hits? S'Ok, I can live without your vote ;)

ZenGum 01-07-2008 11:57 PM

I still haven't voted ... 'cause when it comes to it, I have no idea who to vote for ... I'd trust pretty much anyone (except maybe me) with the authority, but I don't want to burden anyone (especially me) with the duties. There are a few who I think are kind of busy for extra tasks. I'd like to see one white middle-aged college educated protestant male and one African/Asian HIV positive left-handed Jewish lesbian hermaphrodite. Together.

Does anyone actually want my votes? PM me if you do. Naked photos may or may not help. Cash will.

A possible loophole; but, they would have to be convincing:

LJ 01-08-2008 06:11 AM

seems like most polls get somewhere in the mid thirties total voters. i wonder if that's a fair approximation of how many 'active' posters the cellar usually has?

glatt 01-08-2008 07:33 AM

The first Moderator Voting Thread back in May aught six had 52 voters.

lookout123 01-08-2008 10:27 AM

no, it had 30 voters and 3 of those voters were bored at work and voted with each of their sock puppets.

LJ 01-09-2008 11:10 PM

**if you vote for me, i will give you immunity for the duration of my term. (like on survivor....you wont get voted off the island)

** this is a lie. if you act like a big enough dick...you're out.

Aliantha 01-09-2008 11:35 PM

I don't think you're going to make it over the line Jimbo. You've choked.

NoBoxes 01-10-2008 02:11 AM

GREAT IDEA ALI:litebulb: LJ can post a youtube video of himself in which he's all choked up, with watery eyes, fighting back the tears, and making an impassioned plea to all lurkers to vote during these final hours and make LJ the COMEBACK KID! :thumb:

Undertoad 01-11-2008 05:28 PM

The vote is finished, and xoxoxoBruce and wolf continue as moderators through 2008.

Thanks to them for taking on this responsibility. And thanks to everyone involved.

For the record, there were one sock puppet and one person with only two posts who voted, but this did not affect the outcome.

BigV 01-11-2008 05:32 PM

Congratulations xoB, Congratulations wolf!

Here's to looking forward to another year of being well moderated.

And a hearty thanks to Undertoad for making it possible for them to have this job. Huzzah!

Drax 01-11-2008 05:37 PM

2008?

Undertoad 01-11-2008 05:39 PM

yes, through 2008.

classicman 01-11-2008 07:08 PM

thanks to all of you and congrats or sympathy - whichever you wish.

TheMercenary 01-11-2008 08:04 PM

Congrats to both of you, keep up the good work.

lookout123 01-11-2008 09:43 PM

My sock puppet voted in a way that had no chance of impacting (see that ZenGum)the outcome for reasons that just don't really matter.

xoxoxoBruce 01-11-2008 11:24 PM

Thanks, there were a number of people running that I think would do a good job.
Well, it's hard to believe there are 15 people that really like me, so I assume they're mostly people who appreciate a proactive approach to keeping the spammers at bay.
Of course UT gets the most credit for that, but I've tried to contribute by knocking off a few hundred of them.

ZenGum 01-12-2008 07:24 AM

Maybe its not because they like you, but because they want to keep you too busy to post ...
;)

Griff 01-12-2008 07:56 AM

Big thank you to Bruce and wolf for keeping a tidy board.

glatt 01-12-2008 08:04 AM

Ditto that. You guys have been doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

DanaC 01-12-2008 08:26 AM

Good result:) you two have done a smashing job. I am really glad you'll be continuing. Thanks.

LJ 01-12-2008 08:38 AM

yes, a job well done. the invisibility of the moderation is the clearest indicator of that.

DanaC 01-12-2008 08:45 AM

*nods* and that invisibility extends to not having to think "wish there was a moderator to get rid of all these spammers".

monster 01-12-2008 10:55 AM

Yes, thanks indeed, a vote of confidence. Also good to have names suggested as emergency back-ups, should the need ever arise.

Keep up the good work, fascist pig-dogs.

xoxoxoBruce 01-12-2008 12:43 PM

Enjoy Canada.

HungLikeJesus 01-13-2008 08:02 PM

I'm relieved. These last twelve days without moderators have been heck.
