Pancakes In a Can

Fuck yeah.

classicman 02-16-2008 02:14 PM

OMG that is too sad - aside from camping, there is no reason for that to exist. Are we really that lazy a race? lol

xoxoxoBruce 02-16-2008 02:25 PM

Quick and easy way to make one pancake with no clean up. Probably tastes like shit, though.

Aliantha 02-16-2008 09:36 PM

I could use stuff like that on the boat. How simple would it be? For once, I think I would like something in a can. It's a miracle.

Elspode 02-16-2008 09:48 PM

Backpacking pancakes? Fuck, yeah.

richlevy 02-17-2008 11:10 AM

To be technically accurate, it's pancake batter in a can. I was picturing a can of actual pancakes. Sort of like frozen pancakes but able to be stored at room temperature.

This was a letdown. I'm holding zewb personally responsible.;)

classicman 02-17-2008 03:01 PM

sorta like the cheeseburger, rich?

lumberjim 02-17-2008 08:24 PM

when these were 1st released in 1999, they came in a can.

Breakfast will never be the same, as Spartan Foods of America pu4s it. Hot off the griddle from the Spartanburg, SC-based processor are Mama Mary's Homestyle pancakes--six microwavable, ready-to-eat pancakes in spiral-wound paperboard canister from Sealright. The company chose Sealright's Ultrakan [TM] packaging system, which forms the round, 6.333-in.-diameter, 3.9-in.-tall canister to assist its the newest member of the breakfast hope meal replacement segment.
looks like they come ina box now, though.

Cloud 02-17-2008 08:32 PM

well, is it actually pre-processed batter? or has that person simply put it in a squeeze tube for application into the pan?

If the latter, it's not too bad of an idea, really. Have to watch out for lumps, though, and pancake batter isn't supposed to be whipped or anything.

xoxoxoBruce 02-17-2008 11:25 PM

Yes, commercially packaged batter in a squirt can, like CheezWiz.

toranokaze 02-18-2008 12:24 PM

I just bought a pack yesterday and they look pretty good.
I got them because I need a quick breakfast and I don't have much for storage space.

Cloud 02-18-2008 01:02 PM

well, ick then. Bisquick is bad enough.

Tink 02-18-2008 01:17 PM

Doesn't seem like you'd get too many pancakes out of that. And I can only imagine how much that can costs.

I'll stick with pancakes from scratch or Bisquick thank you very much.

toranokaze 02-20-2008 06:57 PM

They do not cost that much

DanaC 02-20-2008 06:58 PM

I'm the world's laziest cook.....but pancakes in can just seems wrong to me :P

lumberjim 03-06-2008 10:41 AM

Shawnee123 03-06-2008 11:10 AM

I finally got my hands on some Batter Blaster. When the internet first told me about this shit I couldn’t believe it, fucking pancake batter in a bottle. This shit is fucking organic too! I copped it at Whole Foods, they keep them in the refrigeration aisle. Batter Blaster is cute cause you get to shoot it on the pan but that’s for kids. I wanted to spray this shit in my deep fryer for some real magic. These are the results.

Sundae 04-06-2008 12:38 PM

Oh crikey me - deep fried pancakes (bleurgh) I've seen it all now.

I have to admit that pancakes in a bottle/ can are the first "lazy cook" items that I have approved of. If I had had access to this on Shrove Tuesday I would have bought it. Why? Because HM was playing badminton and I would have quite liked to celebrate with pancakes. But I would have only wanted one - two at most - and I'm not going to bother with a lot of washing up for that.

I agree it is very suitable for boats and camping also.

Pancakes in a can? I has 'em. Organic, no less.
They're decent. I'd like to know a better method for cooking one pancake.

Note: I bought these on a personal recommendation from a friend who squirts them in a waffle maker.

HungLikeJesus 05-19-2008 10:07 PM

Your organic pancakes are destroying the ozone layer.

And guess what my organic sausage is destroying...

Clodfobble 05-20-2008 10:22 AM

Did you get them from a store, or did you have to buy them online?

BigV 05-20-2008 12:39 PM

then glazed

footfootfoot 05-20-2008 07:55 PM

Yeah they'd be great camping if you like to leave your trash in the woods. I don't like to carry around a bunch of trash with me, nor would I chuck it. regular old pancakes are easy enough to premix the dry and keep all your eggs in a number of water/egg proof baskets.

But for car camping they'd be the balls or tits, depending.

Clodfobble 05-20-2008 09:49 PM

But... how is the empty "premix" bag and empty egg basket not the same thing as carrying around an empty spray can?

lumberjim 05-20-2008 10:17 PM

pancakes come in a can
they were put there by a man
in a factory ....down ...townnnnnn

The premix bag is paper and gets burned in the fire and weighs a lot less than a steel can. It's a weight issue and a multi purpose thing. The empty bag can be reused for another purpose. The eggs go into a wide mouth nalgene bottle in case of breakage. When the bottle is empty it can be used for water or some other storage need. And is also lighter than steel.

Having eggs means they can prepared many ways in addition to making pancakes. pancakes in a can pretty much means your gonna have pancakes. I like to cook and like to keep my options open.
