Patrick Swayze 'has five weeks to live'

Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze has been given just five weeks to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a leading US tabloid has reported.

The National Enquirer reported Swayze was diagnosed in late January, and the cancer has spread to other parts of his body.

Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University's cancer centre with his wife Lisa Niemi for chemotherapy treatments, the Enquirer reported.

An insider said: "He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure.

"It's time to start praying for a miracle."

The actor, who made a name for himself in Dirty Dancing and has also starred in Ghost, Point Break and Donnie Darko, is on a liquid diet as he can't keep solids down.

Calls made by Foxnews.com to Swayze's reps were not returned, and a representative for the actor told Bang! Showbiz: "I don't know anything about this, I'll have to get back to you with more details."

A "very good source" reportedly told blogger Perez Hilton that Swayze had seemed fine.

"Patrick has been at rehearsals for a new cheerleading movie at Century City studio frequently lately, and he definitely does not look like he has five more weeks of life left.

"I'm not sure of his medical condition(s), but if he is gravely ill, he is hiding it very well," the source said.

Sufferers of pancreatic cancer typically have a survival rate of less than five per cent, but if the cancer has spread to Swayze's other vital organs he has an even lower chance of beating the disease.

Wow - that sucks.

lookout123 03-05-2008 03:30 PM

They completely failed to mention his single greatest movie performance. Evar.

WOLVERINES!

SteveBsjb 03-05-2008 03:36 PM

Nobody puts baby in a corner.

Trilby 03-05-2008 04:18 PM

One day you're walkin' around, rich, thin, good-looking; next day-BAM!-you've got five weeks to live.

What a world.

monster 03-05-2008 05:18 PM

Reuters Says:

Patrick has a very limited amount of disease, and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.

Clodfobble 03-05-2008 06:20 PM

Maybe the Enquirer was just pulling one of those "we never SAID..." type of things. Technically, he does have 5 weeks to live. And also probably more than that, too.

bbro 03-06-2008 09:25 AM

from here: http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

"All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."

Shawnee123 03-06-2008 10:16 AM

Hope he's ok, but gotta say, I can't think of one of his movies I liked. At all. Still, that's neither here nor there, and it's sad if he's sick.

Undertoad 03-06-2008 10:19 AM

Ghost?

Shawnee123 03-06-2008 11:13 AM

I busted out laughing in the theater, when everyone else was snifflling. I thought it was tripe. I may be the only person on earth, but I did. And I can cry at a movie like no other!

Elspode 03-06-2008 01:46 PM

I first heard this today on the local news radio. However, their report said that he was responding well to treatment.

Gods help me, I think Swayze is terrific. And Red Dawn is *not* his greatest film. "To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything - Julie Newmar" is.

Clodfobble 03-06-2008 02:03 PM

Oh yeah! Dirty Dancing was of course a completely iconic movie of my youth, but I totally forgot about To Wong Foo. He was awesome in that.

shina 03-06-2008 02:26 PM

He played the hard-nosed green (newbie) instructor in 'Uncommon Valor'. Great flick! 'Point Break' was ok.

deek 03-06-2008 03:30 PM

Are we forgetting about 'Roadhouse'?

monster 03-06-2008 04:08 PM

no, it was on the box last might. he has a totally unkissable gob, though - a chinless wonder with a tiny bottom lip....

I thought he'd be bigger

Cicero 03-06-2008 05:10 PM

Hey what about "Red Dawn" and "Point Break"? I mean, who wasn't a fan of Red Dawn?!? You don't even have to like Patrick Swayze to like those..
:0

lookout123 03-06-2008 05:47 PM

Cicero, would you just come out and admit you want me? It would be easier than covering territory I'd already hit.;)

He was good in Donnie Darko.

Ghost?
Didn't like that film so much. There's a much better film along similar lines (though with a touch of comedy to add to tragedy) called Truly, Madly, Deeply. Now that's a good film. That made me cry. Less glossy, more human.

Flint 03-06-2008 09:28 PM

Steeeeeeve...

SteveBsjb 03-07-2008 03:49 AM

Love Donnie Darko, just because of the subject matter, not so much Swayze. But Dirty Dancing is chock full of memorable "douche chill" lines I gotta love it.

"I carried the watermelon."

Fliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiint

Hope we're all still here in five weeks.

Shawnee123 03-07-2008 07:39 AM

I forgot about him being in Donnie Darko. I retract my statement. But aside from my views on his acting/films, he's always seemed like a pretty nice guy.

:D
Sooorry.
I didn't know that I was being redundant, and saying something that had already been said, possibly alluding to something that had already been talked about here. I probably referred to something that had already been referred to, and I don't normally do that.
:p

Elspode 03-07-2008 05:44 PM

"Roadhouse" is one of my dirty little pleasures. And yeah, I'd forgotten about "Donnie Darko". He *was* awesome in that.

Elspode 03-08-2008 10:48 PM

Speaking of "Roadhouse", Jeff Healy, the blind guitarist who played in the bar band in that movie, died this past week. Tragic. He was a brilliant player, not the least reason being the unique way he played, with the instrument across his lap.

OnyxCougar 03-11-2008 11:22 PM

That's a shame. I really liked him.

classicman 03-12-2008 08:34 AM

Mayor bummer - He was a very talented guy.

*Aside* - Is it me or are more celeb types dying this year than usual?

Shawnee123 03-12-2008 08:41 AM

He's not dead yet, classicman! (edit: lmao at myself, I thought you were talking about Swayze. Duhhhhhhhhhhhh)

Who the hell is Mayor Bummer? Is he like Mayor McCheese?

sorry, love ya man!

classicman 03-12-2008 09:17 AM

Jeff Healy died Shawnee - read post 27.

Shawnee123 03-12-2008 09:19 AM

Yeah, that's why I edited and was laughing that I thought you meant Swayze. Read post 30. :right:

Now who the fuck is Mayor Bummer?

Clodfobble 03-12-2008 11:58 AM

He's in charge of Dullsville, of course.

I LOVE Roadhouse! He was badass in that one!

:joylove:

monster 03-13-2008 02:58 PM

Today's pic (also Nat Enquirer) of him being unable to quit his 60-a-day ciggie habit lend more weight to the enquirer's original story....

Shawnee123 03-13-2008 03:00 PM

I saw last night on Entertainment Tonight (I know I know, but it's on after the Wheel and I don't have many channels) that he was in The Outsiders! I really did forget about that one. He was good in that!

lookout123 03-13-2008 03:57 PM

he lived through crashing his plane after poisoning himself with oversmoking, i'm sure he can live through this.:right:

SteveBsjb 03-29-2008 08:35 AM

Oversmoking?

monster 03-29-2008 01:55 PM

So Patrick's got, what, 10 days left now?

Shawnee, you're not alone. It is new age bullshit. I did the same thing, and pissed off the woman and other couples with me.
Did the same thing while watching Spiderman 3. The whole place was cheering and sniffing etc, while two of us were laughing so hard we got another woman with us laughing, and the fourth member of our group takes her hearing aids out, and thought we were crying.:haha::D

lushchocolateswirl 04-03-2008 07:30 AM

so he's like ..not dead yet then ?

don't mean to be heartless here, but my mum was given five years to live about 20 years ago . Spoke to her on the phone yesterday:D

SteveBsjb 04-04-2008 07:55 AM

Well, call Patrick Swayze, he's got one week left!
