Mother's Day

What are you doing for mom on mother's day?

I think I am getting her a gift basket of teas. With my brother's help, I can get her the large size http://www.southernseason.com/ppf/ci...11462/prod.asp

My brother was looking for other ideas, so I directed him to www.ediblearrangements.com Nice way to send a bouquet. Plus, it's healthy. :)

May 11, 2008.

Sorry, I had to look it up and it wasn't posted...For the people as lame as I am...
:D

SteveDallas 05-02-2008 01:43 PM

I usually call up every three or four days to hit her up for cash. I figure that week, I'll lay off.

(No, seriously, I haven't decided yet.)

elSicomoro 05-02-2008 03:50 PM

My mom's birthday is right around Mom's Day (May 7), so we usually combine the two...though we try to compensate my mom accordingly. I think we're going out to dinner Thursday night...my stepdad will probably bbq the following Sunday and we'll give her gifts and cards.

My mom-in-law...eh, we'll probably give her her gifts and go out to dinner with her next Saturday.

Cloud 05-02-2008 03:53 PM

nothing. ('cause she's passed on). I'll probably get a card from my kiddos.

Maybe. If I'm lucky.

xoxoxoBruce 05-02-2008 10:30 PM

I'll make her a card and treat her to a gallon of unleaded premium.

smoothmoniker 05-03-2008 12:08 AM

I usually celebrate Mother's Day by picking a phone number at random, calling up, and screaming that it's not my baby.

Razzmatazz13 05-03-2008 06:33 AM

That edible arrangements sounds like a good idea...I think I'll see if boyfriend will go halfsies with me for his mom, so we can get her a semi-nice looking one...and for my mom...

Mebbe I'll finish one of the billions of paintings she's asked me for...

Ah crap, now I'll have to think up something for my dad to give to my gram too...well...thanks for the reminder anyway *goes back to thinking*

jinx 05-03-2008 04:38 PM

My sister sent one of those edible arrangements to my mom for easter. It never arrived. When she called the next day they were mildly apologetic (sorry, couldn't find the address and didn't have time to call the 2 numbers provided - too many other deliveries). They offered to try again on Tuesday if she wanted...

Calyx flowers are really the prettiest. Expensive though!
http://www.calyxflowers.com/

Martha Stewart's flowers are also very classy: http://ww21.1800flowers.com/landing....nerBeacon=true

wish someone would send me flowers!

jinx 05-03-2008 04:51 PM

Did they used to be Calyx & Corolla? If so they do a pretty good job of replacing their dead/dying mistakes... I ordered from them a million times but got sick of calling to complain.

I love Gladiolas and gave my mom some once for mother's day. Very classy and pretty!!She associates them with funerals and death....I did not know that.....
:(

Cloud 05-03-2008 06:22 PM

oops.

glatt 05-05-2008 08:16 AM

I've been on the receiving end of edible arrangements twice. There is a real wow factor. They are very impressive to look at. But to be honest, the fruit was poor quality both times. Unripe and flavorless. I think they have to be unripe to stay in place on the skewers.

bbro 05-05-2008 01:13 PM

Well, I got her a different, small tea sampler, and this bouquet:

I am happy, I hope she will be, too.

Must depend on your local franchise... the two we've gotten had especially good fruit.

I'm really getting ticked off by all the "buy THIS for your mother" crap--every single store, zillions of email ads--all of it for useless crap.

I'd rather have some flowers, a card, a homemade gift, the gift of some labor around the house, etc.

Trilby 05-10-2008 12:39 PM

My nephews (aged 6 and 10) were here at the house for about an hour whilst their parental units did...well, who really knows?

anyway--in that one hour they managed to completely harsh my cool.

happy mother's day indeed!

Cloud 05-10-2008 01:33 PM

be glad you can send them back where they came from--the poor momma can't.

It's a test of your mothering abilities, if you get the good stuff back you know you brought them up properly ;)

BTW am also irritated by International Mothers Day emarketing. No, it's NOT International, any more than the World Series is worldwide. We celebrate ours according to the Christian calendar as is traditional.

For the record I just sent mine a card (I wasn't working back then). But it was chosen with great care and written with much love.

busterb 05-10-2008 03:13 PM

Guess I'll stop by grave yard and say HI.

Drax 05-10-2008 04:44 PM

I got my mom the Flower Power Time Life 10 CD Box Set.

SteveDallas 05-10-2008 05:26 PM

I went with a gift certificate for a yarn store she likes.

classicman 05-10-2008 05:54 PM

Dinner at her fav restaurant - she loved it .... again.

They don't deliver on weekends.

monster 05-10-2008 07:45 PM

I hope you're going to help her eat it!

She looks like she can keep you in line ... ;)

I'm not anti-mother's day, but I'm not into "Hallmark Holidays" and I feel that I want any mother's day gift.gesture i am lucky enough to receive should be a spontaneous/self-instigated thing from my kids and I expect nothing. I'm not in touch with my mum and we sent beest's mum a homemade card on UK mother's day, and usually a floral gift of some sort, like origami flowers or flower seeds.

xoxoxoBruce 05-11-2008 12:06 AM

No, I won't be there, but I'll call her.

Cloud 05-11-2008 12:07 AM

Daughter No. 1's taking me to see "Iron Man" tomorrow.

lumberjim 05-11-2008 01:55 AM

my mom will get a brief visit, and some gifts....i suck as a family member.

jinx is getting a new mountain bike....i'm gonna get up early and go get it...she's passed out by now and won't see this post before i give her the bike.

the thing is, i need her car to go get it, and i have nowher to hide it, so it has to be last minute. I sure hope she likes it.

I say this every year, but my kids are evidence that she is the best mom evarrr. i see what she does, and wonder how i survived my own mother.

I love me some Shelby. I don't know what cell I'd be in without her.

Oh ..and I'll bring her a nice starbuck's latte in bed and offer an oral Mom's day wake up .....event. I hope she accepts. she is a tousled, sleepy sex goddess when first she awakens.

i may get may ass kicked for this post.

I love you, hunny!

Sundae 05-11-2008 06:40 AM

That teared me up a little bit.
Bless you.

Coincidentally I'm just about to call my Mum before I start getting this Board Meeting sorted out.
I dreamed she died last night and all I could think in the dream was, "I wish I had one more chance to tell her I love her." So I'm going to. Gonna wait til te lump's outta my throat though, or she'll get all worried about me.

Just gave my wife breakfast in bed. A couple of lattes, a bowl of cut up strawberries, and an english muffin w/ peanut butter. She's up there with the Sunday paper, while the kids are playing legos down here, and I'm checking the Cellar.

I gave her a card with and iTunes gift card tucked inside. Kids gave her some homemade cards and presents.

I'll call my own mom later in the day. I sent her a card.

Cloud 05-11-2008 10:06 AM

Happy Mother's Day to all the Cellarmoms!

Cicero 05-11-2008 10:29 AM

Aww sweet glatt!

I think I should call my momma! Thanks for the reminders guys!!

Happy mothers day everybody!

classicman 05-11-2008 10:35 AM
