Cruise to Cozumel

just got back from family vacation
it was a cruise from Ft Lauderdale, FL, USA to Key West to Cozumel, Mexico.
Not gonna lie, the cruise was boring. It is really catered for 40 year olds, straight up. Not much for a 20 year old to do. Yeah they have the 18 year old international waters drinking law...but Royal Caribbean still enforces the 21 US rule. Couldn't drink. Bah.
So I didn't have much to do, the activities are for middle age/older adults, and you can only look at the water/go to pool for so many hours.

I did buy my first alcohol in Cozumel, a small 40 mL of Bacardi Superior and the Mexican beer Dos Equis--it was very good!
K I'll shutup.

Cruising is the only way to go. [/40yo]

lookout123 06-10-2008 03:35 PM

Cruises rule. I started in my 20's. Did you go to any of the clubs? Take part in any of the shows? Plenty to do on the ship and even more to do in port. IMO.

That's because your daily schedule still includes lots and lots of free time. Just you wait until you work from 9 to 6, run errands on your lunch hour, drive a 45-minute commute on each side, put in significant night and weekend hours anywhere from one to three weeks a month, plus then maybe all your remaining time at home is spent caring for a kid or two.

There will be no limit to the number of hours you can just sit on a deck chair and look at the water.

I think what fresh means is that there's nothing that's not lame to do.

glatt 06-10-2008 04:07 PM

Is that last picture a detail of the tattoo you got, fresh?

No, that's a coloring book he worked on while sitting in his room the whole time complaining about how much the free cruise he got taken on sucked, straight up.

lookout123 06-10-2008 04:28 PM

Well, the coloring book was the only not lame thing apparently.

Cloud 06-10-2008 04:45 PM

:headshake

at bored people

and at people who think the only thing fun to do is drink

freshnesschronic 06-10-2008 05:23 PM

i guess i'll appreciate it more when i'm older.
the food was good, the entertainment was fun, don't get me wrong. I just wished I had a friend there that's all.

did you at least enjoy the pictures! i think i'm a pretty decent amateur photographer

Sundae 06-10-2008 05:24 PM

Fantastic pictures Fresh! Well captured.
Don't knock a free holiday though.
That ship certainly looks like it had more facilities on it than the campsite my sister and I went to on our last holiday with our parents.

She was 16 and I was 15.
After that we were expected to pay for our own.
Fair enough, we were both working by then, but I'd love another holiday with Mum & Dad now - especially on a cruise ship (and I am under 40!)

You seem to have enjoyed some of it anyway.
If you're in the Secret Santa this year you might just get a towel origami book. Yes they exist! (Yes I bought one)

PS - are those real Mayan fingers?

Cloud 06-10-2008 05:31 PM

you went by yourself? that seems odd. I guess you went with family or something, then--paid for?

wish someone would pay for me to take a cruise.

but then I'm one of those "older" people.

and YES! the pics are great, seriously-- :)

Hey! I'll be the judge of that! 21 June we leave.

lookout123 06-10-2008 06:00 PM

So freaking jealous. I forget, which line will you be on?

TheMercenary 06-10-2008 06:25 PM

Carnival, Thte Glory, Port Canaveral -> Nassau -> St. Thomas -> St. Martin -> 2 days at sea to home. 7 days total.

<~~~~ The Merc, trying to get excited about it.

kerosene 06-10-2008 06:43 PM

I'm jealous, too. We went on one of these last year and it was great to be able to saunter around for 7 days doing next to nothing, if anything else. And that looks like a nice workout room. Nicer than any of our local gyms, anyway. We enjoyed the workout room on our cruise, too.

Spectacle 06-10-2008 07:21 PM

DON'T TAKE PICTURES OF DELICIOUS FOOD AGAIN
THANKS FOR BEING CONSIDERATE

monster 06-10-2008 09:09 PM

I could not do a cruise. I would be bored out of my tiny mind. f'real. And I do view alcohol as a fun activity -but only at the end of the day. I don't know how to do nothing. The only thing I do that's nothingish is get lost in a book. Oh and maybe surf the cellar. But it doesn't have the same joy if that's what I'm supposed to be doing....

Cloud 06-10-2008 11:53 PM

I'm so rarely bored, even doing boring things, because I entertain myself with my own mind, that I have a hard time imagining.

And fresh, I'm sorry. Cool pictures and all, but the idea that your family took you on a cruise, which you did not have to pay for, and you're complaining because you were stuck hanging out with your family, and couldn't drink, and there was no one to play with . . . I mean, you are over the age of 12, aren't you?

On a cruise, I so would not be bored. I'd explore the ship, window shop, eat in every restaurant I could, swim, exercise, do activities (maybe, if they weren't too groupy-groupy), try some of the water activities like parasailing, sightsee, get a massage, nature see, and just . . . relax. And yes, I would drink, too. Are you saying 20-somethings don't like to shop, get massages, or parasail?

that's what you're supposed to do, innit? relax? I'm good at that. and relaxing is not boring. it's . . . relaxing.

freshnesschronic 06-11-2008 03:41 AM

woa woa it's not like i'm saying the vacation sucked! I'm not saying I'm being ungrateful of the vacation with my family! Can we not assume here? I'm just saying it wasn't the best family vacation for me. And I wasn't stuck hanging out with my family, my parents were doing stuff on their own, and it was very limiting of what I could do that wasn't childish or too mature for me. Please, everyone's getting the wrong message.

and cloud I don't have the money to shop/parasail/get a massage. That stuff isn't included with cruise fees

DucksNuts 06-11-2008 04:17 AM

Sheesh, he's 20....let him be a bit bored on a cruise!

Great pics, fresh. I understand, I went on a cruise and it was great for about the first 3 days, then I was bored and just hanging out for the next port. Then again, right at this moment, 7 days doing frickall sounds awesome.

Lemme also congratulate you on not getting pissie at the comments you have received.

Awwww, our little boy is grownin' up. :)

Cloud 06-11-2008 09:16 AM

Okay, okay. Apparently, I did assume, and did get the wrong message, sorry.

Perhaps I'm merely envious. (and not just an asshole).

Shawnee123 06-11-2008 10:26 AM

Great pics.

Of course, they're all great, but what one did I hone in on? Not the beautiful sunset, not the girl with a great bod in a bikini, not even the twist top Bacardi.

No, it was that salmon that made my mouth water!

:)

edit: lmao! I saw the one with the little fishy laying in the sand either dead or wounded, then saw the taped area for the sea turtle nest, and the first thing I thought was it was crime scene tape around the fishy. Where's Horatio when you need him?
