42

Do you know?

sweetwater 08-26-2008 03:45 PM

Yep!

Shawnee123 08-26-2008 03:53 PM

I picked 43 seems silly without it, I guess because I'm 43.

Trilby 08-26-2008 03:54 PM

I always feel better thinking of 42.

BigV 08-26-2008 03:55 PM

it's one tenth of 4:20.

or is that ten times 4:20?

I always forget.

Shawnee123 08-26-2008 03:58 PM

4:20, now that one I know!

I was never really a 4:20 girl, I was more of a 7:14 girl. :D

Aliantha 08-26-2008 05:36 PM

It's the answer to the meaning of life and everything but it did come from a movie.

Clodfobble 08-26-2008 06:26 PM

If by "movie" you mean "book," then yes.

HungLikeJesus 08-26-2008 06:29 PM

I find 42 kind of boring without 27. Then it adds up.

lumberjim 08-26-2008 06:56 PM

it's my favorite sexual position....you just have to find a girl who's REALLY flexible to be the 2

Well book wasn't one of the options in the poll. But you're right, it was a book first.

Watch out for the mice.

ZenGum 08-26-2008 08:30 PM

If by "book" you mean "radio play", then yes. [/smartarse]

73%. Welcome to NERD CENTRAL!

But do you know what the question is? Be advised, most people get this wrong.

monster 08-26-2008 09:48 PM

Was the question: If you can't be semi-frivolous in a semi-frivolous thread and insist on posting the correct(ish) answer because you just have to be a know-it-all smartypants, what is your sense of humour score on a scale of 42 to 420?

Clodfobble 08-26-2008 11:27 PM

Ooh! Ooh! I know the question!!

What is six times nine?

Which is really ironic that I remember that detail so clearly, because to be honest, I found that Douglas Adams' style became kind of trite to me as I aged. Reading them in junior high school was great, but the older I got, the less I appreciated the "insert wacky non-sequitur here" style of humor. In improv theatre, it was called an easy out and was frowned upon.

monster 08-26-2008 11:29 PM

dissin Douglas to Brit is like telling an American you're an Atheist.........

Hey! We have atheists in America! Just because their leader (Madalyn Murray O'Hair) and some of her family were ruthlessly murdered (under v. bizarre and greedy conditions) doesn't mean they dried up and went away. I hate it when people assume all Americans are Christian. It's like assuming all Michiganers have a weird accent and believe in BigFoot.

You know there is a plethora (oh, yeah, I said plethora!) of religious beliefs right here on this board. A varitable 'cornucopia' of beliefs! A pumpkin patch of weirdness! Just look at us and you can tell!

monster 08-27-2008 12:48 AM

Shawnee123 08-27-2008 08:16 AM

Well crap, you all just reminded me some dude gave me a copy of Hitchhiker's Guide in college as long as I SWORE I would give him back his favorite book. Now, where did I put that?

glatt 08-27-2008 08:22 AM

I never got around to reading any of those books, which is odd, since I bet they would have appealed to me.

Unless this is an unusual announcement that you are dying in the next 24 hours, it's not too late.

Well thought. Hmmmmmm...I never connected BigFoot with any sex appeal until you just brought up the well-known association of foot size corresponding to Pink Floyd size. Now I'll be wondering about this all day...

LabRat 08-27-2008 03:41 PM

Beats me. After reading the above posts, I sort of have an idea.

A reasonably quick reader could probably get through them in less than 24 hours. And unless you have some sort of sentimental attachment to spending time with your family, I can't think of a better way to spend your last day. Better than lying on the floor with a paper bag on your head. Or lying in the mud in front of a bulldozer, for that matter.

Third on the " [nerdy voice] actually....[/nerdy voice]"

In school, at about age 10, there was a quiz, a general knowledge section and specialist subject, a la Mastermind, H2G2 was my specialist subject.
I chose 42 as my team number.

:p

and yes Atheism is often considered worse than Satanism in the US, at least they beleive in something even if it's the wrong thing.

It'd probably be really hairy, though, unless he manscapes....

richlevy 09-06-2008 07:21 PM

Look, I loved Hitchhikers, but I doubt that 21 of you can quote 2 pages from it.

I picked 43 because it's true, and because without it, there would always be a sort of awkward pause when counting past 41.

Which two pages would you like? It's a set book for lit classes in the UK.

Radar 09-07-2008 02:04 PM

42 = half of the normal life expectancy so it's actual midlife?
