Huh. Flirting.

I just sent a rather flirty email to one of my profs.

I am shameless.

Do you ever flirt inappropriately? I'll bet you never do.

Juniper 11-04-2008 07:02 AM

I have forgotten how, appropriate or otherwise.

Bullitt 11-04-2008 07:06 AM

Is heaven missing an angel? Cause you've got nice cans.

Shawnee123 11-04-2008 07:06 AM

Hmm, it's been a while. I've actually become more shy about those kinds of things. I used to be an expert.

What a great feeling it was: my New Year's resolution will be to shamelessly flirt at least once a month.

So what day is good for you Bri? I could pencil you in like every third Wednesday or something?

SquidGirl 11-04-2008 07:27 AM

My tag line is "hello, handsome." I have a 'midnight Meijer guy' who is just simply a really nice guy that I see when I go to the store after work. I admit, I always flirt with him....I would never do anything but it's fun to flirt and I think it makes him feel happy. Other than that, I'm sure I flirt, probably not real inappropriately...which come to think of it, now I'm disappointed in myself....I need to flirt more.

Shawnee123 11-04-2008 07:27 AM

Excuse me, sir...do you happen to have the time?

Yes, it is...

Good, I've got the place.

Da dum dum

Wednesday is good!

Cicero 11-04-2008 09:07 AM

Hmmmm. I hope he isn't ugly.

barefoot serpent 11-04-2008 09:59 AM

We'll check back when grades are posted.

Treasenuak 11-04-2008 10:19 AM

-sighs- I flirt without realizing I do it. One of the points of contention between me and the ex. He claimed I was deliberately flirting with his co-workers right in front of him... and I never realized I was doing it.

lumberjim 11-04-2008 10:22 AM

STRUMPET

Treasenuak 11-04-2008 10:24 AM

-grins- Complaining?

lumberjim 11-04-2008 10:26 AM

don't try flirting with ME now....I'm married.

Treasenuak 11-04-2008 10:32 AM

Legally, so am I. You're fortunate in that you're HAPPILY married.

Juniper 11-04-2008 11:27 AM

That's a huge motivation to stay married, no need to flirt. I'd have to re-learn everything. Is there a class you can take?

Treasenuak 11-04-2008 11:29 AM

I've heard Berkeley offers a class in Porn... not quite the same thing, but if they'll teach that, maybe they will teach flirting?

I've gotten a handful of these since becoming a prof. I have a standing policy - as soon as they hit my inbox, they get forwarded to my wife, my dean, and my representative on the Professional Affairs Review Board.

There are some crazy-ass nutters floating around any university, and there's no way in hell I'm going to have my academic career hijacked by some undergrad desperate for attention.

No such thing as harmless flirting when it's between a prof and a student.

Bullitt 11-04-2008 11:37 AM

With the subject line: GONNA BANG SOME BARELY LEGAL TAIL TONIGHT WOOOHOOOOOO!!!1

Sundae 11-04-2008 12:07 PM

I have done in the past.

And in fact I found myself flirting at work just the other day - there's a really quiet but very sweet guy. They just seem to bring it out in me...

I wouldn't call it inappropriate, but it's just me flexing my flirting muscles, so it's not really standard flirting either.

Pooka 11-04-2008 12:08 PM

I think its pretty cute when Flint flirts... I know he would never actually do anything so inappropriate or not it is purely innocent. He is just silly

I love it when girls flirt with him... its nice to know you have something that someone else wants... besides... he's cute... I know it... he's totally a catch!

Cicero 11-04-2008 01:09 PM

I didn't even flirt when I was single. Just dumb. I was asked out by a guy I liked once, and didn't even know it. I figured it out later. lol! Then I was so mad at myself...In retrospect, I now know that that guy sucks, but then I had a crush and was devastated when I finally figured out what in the hell he was talking about. I am an idiot.

People are flirting and I have no idea what they are doing, I just get confused.

One guy was honest and said he liked me for years once, and the whole time I thought this guy was giving me the stink eye, because he hated my guts. I have social autism or something. I can't read the, I want you so bad rfn, facial expression. I just don't read it. I just think that people hate me and write them off. I often wonder how often this happens.

Since I am an old bag, I doubt it still happens much.

Except that lonely dude asking about you in the coffee shop.

Cicero 11-04-2008 01:52 PM

That's natural. He's on iggy. That's actually a talent I do have, ignoring people with putting no energy into it whatsoever. I just don't care. He said something else the other day, and he's the only person that cares about it. I don't even remember what it was. I am just at the point that he's wasting his time if he is talking in my direction. I'm busy.

Well, professors have nice large desks for a reason.

Juniper 11-04-2008 02:24 PM

I think I'm reasonably cute for a 40 year old mom. But I haven't been hit on for a long time. Maybe it's like Cicero said, I just don't pick up on it anymore, my radar isn't on. Or maybe I'm putting out an "I'm taken" vibe. Still might be nice once in a while. <pout>

I agree with your approach but More Information is needed. Are they direct? Do they say "I do like looking at your ass when you're drawing something on the whiteboard." or do they say "I would totally sux0rs you off for an A in this class. The prereq took a handjob but I figure this class is a bit more important to my major."

Trilby 11-04-2008 03:19 PM

hells bells, people! this is what I sent (besides the stuff about class IE responding to HIS email) "don't forget to vote!"

ok, smoothmoniker. That would get forwarded to the dean, et al? If so, you think waaaaaay too much of yourself.

You shameless hussy!

Cicero 11-04-2008 03:21 PM

Don't forget to vote, is flirting? See, this is why I never get it when people are flirting with me. Must be. Does not compute.

whale. it was a totally unneccessary thing to add to a prof email, WASN'T IT, SMOOTH?

*grumblegrumblegrumble*

Shawnee123 11-04-2008 03:29 PM

Yoohoo, puppykins, don't forget to vote sweetcheeks:moon:

Sorry, but this thread is cracking me up! :)

Cicero 11-04-2008 03:31 PM

Unneccessary does not mean it's flirting. I do unneccessary things all the time. If you were trying to flirt, and "don't forget to vote"" came out instead, I am sorry.

"I think it's cute when you don't forget to vote", might raise an eyebrow.

well. it's the way I email it. It's just....sexy is all. :D

Cicero 11-04-2008 03:35 PM

Oh wait, did you say "don't forget to vote" as a caption, on your topless photo? I'm getting it...Nrlly. :)

Undertoad 11-04-2008 03:39 PM

I really like how you fill out a ballot. Really full. Do you like those ballots where they poke into the hole they want? You're the kind of guy who knows what hole you want, and you aren't afraid to poke it. Hard, over and over, so there's nothing left hanging. Mm, I hope you get what you hope for this election day! Attached is my paper, thx! if you have any questions my cell is in the header! gbye 4 now!

Cicero 11-04-2008 03:40 PM

BigV is flirting with me, look...I knew it! Thanks Bri!!!

http://www.cellar.org/showthread.php?t=18623

Big V flirty with me, big time.:D He wants us all...look at him throwing his self at us like that. pshaw.

Big Sarge 11-04-2008 03:43 PM

I haven't had anyone flirt with me since I left law enforcement. I think women stereotype me as the grouchy old sergeant that used to be a staple of the old war movies. Hmmm....come to think of it, they are probably right

Trilby 11-04-2008 03:44 PM

well known fact that BigV would be a flirt if he weren't so besotted with his wifey.

uh...Ut? You came amazingly close to my exact words in that slutmail. Wow!
:) :) :) :D

Trilby 11-04-2008 03:45 PM

Big Sarge, you liar. Pants on fiar.

cellar women, including ME, told you how hawt you look. we lovey the uniform!

Cicero 11-04-2008 03:48 PM

Hmmm...so "all I said" wasn't "all you said" now was it Bri? ;)

Juniper 11-04-2008 03:53 PM

Bri takes poetry classes. You know how in poetry, one thing is often a metaphor for something else? I'm a-guessing that "don't forget to vote" means "you can poke my chad anytime, big guy."

What would Plath say about this? Brute heart of a brute like you.

Cicero 11-04-2008 03:56 PM

I'm "a-guessing" that she really isn't going to post what she really a-said. :)

Hey look, rich wants to know when a good time, to do it, is. http://www.cellar.org/showthread.php?t=18502 :)

Trilby 11-04-2008 04:25 PM

aw, shucks. I did just say "don't forget to vote."

I know. I'm a bummer.

Big Sarge 11-04-2008 04:26 PM

Bri- Awww, shucks that's sweet.

Cicero 11-04-2008 04:30 PM

Bummer. When you are giving me a juicy story to live vicariously through you with, can you make it less disappointing? I mean, c'mon. Can you lie at least a little?

Uh, Bri?
You're doing it wrong.

smoothmoniker 11-04-2008 04:38 PM

Yeah, Bri, I don't think anyone would take that as flirting. That's casual conversation.

Comments about physical appearance, invitations to meet up outside of office hours in off-campus settings, sexual innuendo, those are the things that get forwarded.

Aliantha 11-04-2008 04:41 PM

I used to flirt a lot, but I don't anymore. At least I don't think so. I just don't have any interest in it anymore. I think I've become boring and dull.

Most of my major flirting was under the influence, and the internet is also a good place to flirt.

Cicero 11-04-2008 04:46 PM

All I know, is this election evening is going to be more interesting if I get to replace the word "vote" with "screw". Or "screw me".

Cicero 11-04-2008 04:52 PM

Don't worry Juniper, it's already working with thread titles. I don't need to drink to amuse myself. (although I do, drink) I can also make a game out of anything.

Elspode 11-04-2008 04:57 PM

I don't really flirt inappropriately. I pretty much just say everything as inappropriately as I can, and it usually involves some sort of sexual come on or innuendo.

Perhaps I'd be more successful if I actually tried some subtle flirting?
