How Obama got elected

link

Quote:

Zogby Poll

512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points

97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).

And yet.....

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!*note*

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)
*note* there were a few dwellars who claimed she said that - no names need be mentioned.

I wonder if the McCain voters would have done any better or worse.

Pico and ME 11-18-2008 04:09 PM

That shit sounds just like a push poll.

I'm not clear on what you're trying to say here. What she said was that one could see Russia "from land, here in Alaska."

Are you saying that as she worded it--not from her "house" specifically, but from land--this was not in fact an embarrassing statement for her to make about her foreign policy credentials?

Trilby 11-18-2008 05:12 PM

*chews gum*

Oh, yeah? Well if you republicans are so smart *chewchew* why didn't YOUR guy get elected?

*flaunts off*

lookout123 11-18-2008 05:39 PM

same reasons the d's guy didn't get elected in '00 and '04. They put up a shit candidate.

Trilby 11-18-2008 07:00 PM

I'm sorry, I've flaunted off.

Actually, it was the Republican brand that lost, not so much the candidate. They're the political equivalent of GM right now.

TheMercenary 11-18-2008 07:58 PM

Classic, that shit is funny as hell. Just like the Howard Stern interviews.

classicman 11-18-2008 10:10 PM

I actually wasn't looking at the poll in terms of taking shots at the Obama supporters, just people in general. How they can ardently support a candidate without knowing shit about his/her actual plan or history whereas they only know the bad things about the opposing side. This absolutely works both ways. Sorry for any confusion, I was on my way out from work when I originally posted.

And they were correct. Palin actually beleives she is on some kind of front line - since she regards Russia as an enemy. Well if Russia is an enemy, then an educated Palin would have known that LA, NYC, Chicago, and the Cellar (Philadelphia) were on the front lines. But then Palin was chosen as a new spokesman for wacko extremists - to do what George Jr did for them. She said she could see Russia - as if that meant she was a brave as soldiers in Khe Sahn.

That Charlie Gibson interview, like the Katie Couric interview, was embarassing. This was the best that wacko extremists in the McCain campaign could come up with?

Informed Americans learn by also demanding reasons why. Extremists wait for the party extremist spokesman to tell them how to think. That was Palin's job.

classicman 11-18-2008 10:47 PM

FWIW, Russia IS visible from Alaska. Russia is NOT visible from Palin's house.

The republic brand has been hijacked - if it can return to its small government, personal liberty roots, I think it can and will win in the midterms.

Playing games does not solve your problem, classicman. You are spinning like Rush Limbaugh. She claimed she was on some kind of front line - therefore she understood national security. Why do you want to defend somebody so dumb that only a wacko extremist could love her?

I think that's where they need to be to win, but I don't know if that timeframe is do-able.

I was just clearing this fact up. What she was purported to have said was that Russia was visible from her home. That was NOT true. That was a skit from SNL. There are parts of Russia visible from Alaska. That IS true. I honestly didn't know that and apparently wasn't alone in that. I had forgotten how close we really are to Russia - geographically.

That she tried to parlay that into a broader perspective of National security or "wisdom" was/is ridiculous.

If the Obamanator can't deliver on his big promises, if the democratic congress descends into petty squabbles and turf warfare, and especially if the ongoing economic depression moves people to a more self-sufficient, fiscally conservative mindset, people might be ready to vote for candidates who stand for less-intrusive government and no public money to bailout bad financial decisions.

She said Russia could be seen from Alaska. And Alaska is her home. So she could see Russia from her home. Obviously, this is arguing semantics. But the point of what she claimed: she understood national security because Russia could be seen from Alaska.

Well that might play among those who know only using sound bytes. But exposed was a bigger Palin problem. She did not have George Jr's superior campaign skills. She was chosen to be the right wing extremist representative - as George Jr was. But, well, the movie W. does demonstrate that even George Jr did not have those skills when at about the same point in his life. The movie W also demonstrated how Goerge Jr refined those political skills.

Maybe Palin can be trained to be a good frontman as George Jr was. But she obviously was not ready which made her a classic target of ridicule. Worse for her, somebody keeps pushing her out there as if she is a viable and electable politician. That is only creating an image just like Dan Quayle - another whose image gelled in the American psyche.

Is the point of this thread that the poll asked stupid, pointless questions?

What "side" you're on shouldn't negate your ability to spot a stupid question.

I think they'll need new faces to do that with credibility no matter the level of nuttiness in the new Congress. Success might have to involve the national party with-holding support for the bad actors that just lost.

Yes that and many who voted had no idea really what they were voting for or against...on both sides.

Pico and ME 11-19-2008 08:59 PM

Ah hell...the whole elction was nothing but stupid sound bites anyway. NO ONE had any real info.

Flint 11-19-2008 09:12 PM

If only they had known the truth! The information from this really awesome poll could have shown them the light...

FACT: 99% of all Americans do NOT know that wearing tin foil hats can keep the liberal DEMON WORSHIPPERS from taxing your Bible collection.

Right, this is what we need more of. This will help the political process.

That's the case in most elections though.

I don't really think this one was any different to the last time GW got elected. Do you?

classicman 11-20-2008 07:48 AM

Ali - no I don't. Its just unfortunate to find something that you found interesting and share it only to be ridiculed. Whatever.

Pie - To what do I owe that honor...again?

Pico and ME 11-20-2008 08:02 AM

Classic, you aren't being riciculed...the poll is being ridiculed. Its actually a good example of something that should be in the ridiculously partisan thread.

classicman 11-20-2008 08:17 AM

Pico - you are probably right in that it belonged in another thread instead of its own.

I'd like to suggest a new thread, classicman's partisan claptrap, for things of this nature.

Shawnee123 11-20-2008 09:34 AM

Heh

dar512 11-20-2008 09:45 AM

Classic, please take the political compass test and post in this thread.

I'd love to know.

jinx 11-20-2008 10:14 AM

The Howard Stern interviews are hilarious.

classicman 11-20-2008 10:31 AM

I'm good with that Flint - I still have trouble determining whether to post something IN a thread or to start a new one. Also that way I can consolidate all my crap in one place. mmmkay?

I'm just kidding classicman. My theory is: always start a new thread. HA ha

Thanks. I did a search on classicman in that thread. Maybe it doesn't search poster's names.

Anyway, thanks. I was wondering.

Cicero 11-20-2008 12:28 PM

I'm not an Obama supporter, and still don't care about 95 percent of the stuff on that quiz....

How odd.

I did not correctly study Palin and Obama's bowel movements. :)

No offense Dave, but that's laaame. (not you the "research") :)

classicman 11-20-2008 12:30 PM

Well most of Palins were on the nightly news or youtube. Kinda hard to miss that :p
