I find Carlsberg Export to be a good solid dependable beer.

Good for everyday use.

Cloud 11-23-2008 12:21 AM

itty bitty Christmas bottles of Bud Lite.

cute, but not satisfying.

Stress Puppy 11-23-2008 12:52 AM

Currently drinking a Two Vines Riesling, as I don't drink beer and I'm out of rum.

Pico and ME 11-23-2008 08:11 AM

MGD, cuz my husband bought it. I like Dos Equis.

(Umm...this was last night)

footfootfoot 11-23-2008 09:31 AM

I had a bottle of Ola Dubh 12 last week. Truly magnificent. I still have a bottle of 16 and a bottle of 30.

I found a box of Newky Brwon on the basement so that is tipple of the moment. We used to drink this stuff by the crate load when we were students. It comes in dinky 12 oz bottles in the US ( british pint is 20 oz).

I'm going to try and Brew up a barrel for the extended () Christamas Break, probaby stout.

sweetwater 11-23-2008 08:34 PM

This thread made me thirsty! So I searched and found a Miller Chill. :drunk:

Kool-Aid, with a drop of rum (and for you worriers, yes, Ted is home with me and the kidlet. Half days of work rock!)

sugarpop 11-24-2008 09:15 PM

the liquor store here is having trouble getting my favorite beer (Cole Porter, YUMSTERS!), because the distributor quit coming down here when gas prices went up. and his territory is protected. what a crock, huh? And, they are out of all of the barleywine beers I like. so tonight I had some Oak Barrel Stout. (yea, I'm a beer snob... :D)

TheMercenary 11-25-2008 12:07 AM

Me too. I love a good Belgian Ale.

Beez Neez. My favourite beer atm...well, before I got myself up the duff of course...but I'll go back to it after I'm sure.

Attachment 20516

A unique Australian made specialty beer. Brewed with a blend of premium pale malted barley and malted wheats with an equal amount of pure light amber honey. The light malt palate with its sominating honey aroma and flavour create a pale light golden coloured beer with a moderate bitternsess.

Me too. but lately I have been more into the bitter ales, many of which are which brewed right here in the United States (who wouldn've thunk the US could compete with great imported ales and stouts 10 or 15 years ago. Not I.). I think my taste is seasonal. It may be time to have a Belzebuth again. :D

Treasenuak 11-25-2008 08:40 AM

Can any of you beer lovers suggest a good beginner's beer for a girl who finds most of the beers she's tried so far to taste like piss? I've tried Coors, Bud, and Miller, and hate all of them. Disgusting. So where should I start with GOOD beers?

Pico and ME 11-25-2008 08:44 AM

I never was much of a beer fan until I tried Dos Equis, the dark not the light. I'm certainly not a connoisseur and I don't think those who are would rank this beer at all, but I like it because it has a full flavor without being too sharp or bitter.

Treasenuak 11-25-2008 08:50 AM

I tried a sip of the dark Dos Equis and wasn't too impressed... :(

Not to be bitchy, but your problem is the crappy american beer. Try some darker beers, or IPAs. What kind of flavors do you normally like? Belgian ales tend to be a little bit sweeter and more winey flavoured. Barleywines are very strong, with a bitter edge (and 10% abv :D). Porters and stouts are very similar, most are stronger flavoured with a bitter edge, but some have a sweetness as well. I like hoppy beers, or certain kinds of hops anyway. Rogue makes some good beers, as does Dogfish Head and Sweetwater. Sweetwater IPA is a great beer. Drink it really cold. It has a grapefruit kind of flavour to it. It's my favorite IPA. Some of the darker stouts and porters are better if you drink them slightly warmer, not ice cold.
the flavours become more full as the beer warms. Because it takes me about an hour to drink a beer, I will chill it fairly cold, then as I drink it the flavours slowly reveal themselves, as the beer warms.

If you can get it, try Cole Porter. That is my favorite beer right now. It has a roasted chocolate-coffee flavour and it's pretty bitter. It's yummy. Or try Chimay blue label. That's a really good Belgian ale.

Treasenuak 11-25-2008 09:11 AM

Ahh, thank you, Sugarpop! I like sweeter tastes, and fruity... hence why it's been easier for me to really get into wines (I ADORE Muscadine!!), so long as the alcohol taste isn't too strong. I think I'll give some of the IPAs a try, since Ted usually has those lying about somewhere.

Cloud 11-25-2008 09:13 AM

I can't find my fave beer in stores anymore--Pyramid Apricot Ale. Other fruit beers are yuk, but this was yum.

I'm sad.

Treasenuak 11-25-2008 09:19 AM

Ted and William brew their own honey mead. Now THAT'S good stuffs. And Ted makes his own wine too occasionally...

Flint 11-25-2008 10:17 AM

Nooo!!!1 If you don't like "beer" then IPAs are the worst next step you could take.

Try a Unibroue, like La Fin Du Monde (high octane but champagne-esque) or Ephmere (green apple flavored).

Cloud 11-25-2008 10:20 AM

a unibrow? Like Frida Kahlo?

lumberjim 11-25-2008 10:26 AM

jinx drinks Smirnoff Ice Light. It says 'flavored beer' on the bottle. they're good. try that

TheMercenary 11-25-2008 10:38 AM

I generally don't like most IPA's and steer away from them. They tend to have a significant aftertaste. I love the stouts but note that a Guinness is quite different from a Beamish and a Murphy's. Belhaven makes a good one as well.

I like the creaminess of a Boddington's, which is a pub draught ale.

Treasunk, I would recommend you try a Harp or Bass. I am a huge fan of Ales.

I usually buy Newcastle which is a brown ale.

glatt 11-25-2008 10:50 AM

If you don't like beer, just drink wine instead. Ever try apple cider? That's good too.

Pooka 11-25-2008 10:55 AM

As a non bear drinker I find that Celis makes some beers that are about as unoffensive as they come.

You can take an apple or pear cider and add some rasberry lambic ale. That is about as sweet/fruity as it gets.

I tried this a couple weeks ago. It seemed fitting. I went to isolate and start a fire in the ol art studio. And I guess it was good because it didn't last too long.

If you like sweeter tastes, the IPAs probably won't do it for you. I really like the Sweetwater IPA because it has a grapefruit flavour that is delicious, but it is also pretty bitter. If you like grapefruit though, you will probably like that one. but most IPAs don't have that citrusy flavour nearly as much.

Try some of the Belgian ales. They tend to be more sweet and winey flavoured.

Here are a few good ones...
Chimay blue label - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/215/2512

Westmalle Trappist Dubbel - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/208/674

Brasserie Des Rocs Triple Imperiale - http://www.specialtybeer.com/beer,in...imperiale.html

Belzebuth is a French ale. I like it a lot, when I'm in the right mood. It's very strong (alcohol content) and it's pretty sweet. http://www.specialtybeer.com/beer,index,belzebuth.html

Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre is a great beer with some sweetness to it. - http://www.dogfish.com/brewings/Year...re/7/index.htm

If you like bitter flavours, try some of the barleywines
Train Wreck is a great one - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/762/35477

Hog Heaven - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30/1490

Old Marley - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/696/21548

Or porters and stouts.
Mackeson's is a good stout a little more on the sweet side - http://beerblog.genx40.com/archive/2...ust/quicknote1

Cooper's is also very good - http://www.thebrewsite.com/2008/11/1...xtra-stout.php

Dogfish Head India Brown ale - http://www.dogfish.com/brewings/Year...e/12/index.htm

Terrapin India Brown Ale - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2372/36195

Those are just a few of my favorites. You might also want to try some German ales. I'm not overly fond of German beers, but my SO loves them.

This is my most favorite beer in the world right now... by the GODS it's yummy.

http://www.ilovemainebeer.com/2008/03/ahhh.html

I have one of these chilling in the fridge right now. I tried it last year this time (it's seasonal, only comes out at Christmas). Can't wait to drink it!
Lump of Coal - http://www.sheltonbrothers.com/beers...asp?BeerID=151
"Looking forward to a depressing holiday? Here is liquid consolation. This 8% bittersweet chocolate stout is the best you could hope for in these dark times. Actually, come to think of it, considering how bad you’ve been, this little coal-black gem is more than you deserve for Christmas this year.

The handiwork of vastly talented (but altogether too cheery) master brewer Peter Scholey, Lump of Coal is the perfect stocking stuffer for the beer lover or manic depressive in your family."

I'm not fond of beer but recently tried one called Blue Moon. Not bad. It doesn't have the bitter taste that I don't like. :p

Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale
better than Jacks Pumpkin beer which for me, Jacks will give that cheap beer head ache and doesn't taste like pumpkin like Bill's pumpkin ale does. It's good.I have not tried Blue Moon Pumpkin. It's suppose to be good too.

Queen of the Ryche 12-03-2009 11:50 AM

Blue Moon is my go-to for beer, with a big fat slice of orange. Or a good heffeweisen with lemon. (Prefer wine or a vodka concoction though. Less filling, tastes great.)

Yuengling for me. Nothing too fancy.

lumberjim 12-03-2009 01:15 PM

my daily drinker is light lager, glatt.....ever tried that?

http://www.yuengling.com/images/beers_light_lager.jpg
it's like a cross between lager and miler lite(which i also like)

i wish it came in cans like this:

http://www.brandweek.com/bw/photos/s...r_aluminum.jpg
i buy a 9 pack of that every once in a while, and open one at the start of the night.....and refill it with YLL or monkey as the load mounts. it's thicker aluminum, so it retains its temp better, and you can screw that lid down tight and put your beer away if you start to pass out with half a beer to go.

glatt 12-03-2009 02:26 PM

Interesting. I like Miller Lite too. Maybe I should try the Yuengling version.

It's just about finished fermenting now and I will probably keg it this weekend, should be ready just in time for the holiday.

I've done it before, just a few times.

Samuel Smith's Nut brown is my favorite second is Bellhaven Scottish Ale. But they are too expensive for everyday drinking.

For special occasions, I drink Killian's Red and Yuengling Traditional Lager.

For sitting around and drinking, I like Coors Extra Gold.
