Office goodies
So far, clients and others have delivered to our office, the following stuff:
--multiple canisters of pistachios --gourmet popcorn --basket with crackers, pretzels, candied walnuts, mustard --basket with snack mix, mints, pretzels and who knows what else --huge trays of baklava --cans of peppermint bark --shortbread cookies --chocolate cookies --bottles of wine and Chivas (I didn't get those!) and the piece de resistance: --chocolate dipped strawberries so . . . what did y'all get? |
chocolate crinkle cookies
peanut butter drop cookies coffee home made mints ( my favorite ) soups homemade breads baked salmon homemade toffee and so many other kinds of cookies I don't know the names of saved for us from the Directors open house. Trays and trays of goodies, some for all shifts some brought just to be shared by us three. I work late night shift and we always bring things in to share in addition to those. Secret Santa elf filled with chocolate mints. Shared Christmas cards or small gifts.lots and lots of laughs shared. The best treat of all. |
I work for a law firm and we get mostly the old standbys...gift baskets containing various chocolates, cookies, etc. The best thing we get all year is a HUGE...and I mean HUGE box of baklava made by Masri Sweets. Oh...and today a local TV station brought us pizza for lunch.

dmg....welcome
baklava is wonderful stuff ! |
I thought a baklava was something Russian women wear on their heads.
|
I like balalakia music. Say it r-e-a-l s-l-o-w: B--a--l--a--l--a--k--i--a.
I'll think you;re French or something. |
that's a balaclava, silly! totally different!

cloud it's skysidhe ( sounds like ) shee Sidhe a Gaelic name. I know I am a terrible speller but I do try to spell phonetically anyway, I bought a whole salmon a week or so ago. It was frozen and the unhelpful wench at the meat counter said they could not cut it...and went on to give me a bunch of fda regulations I could have cared less about. sooo I decided just to cook the whole dang thing and took half to work. Oh it was yummy. That was before the slue of sweets but I agree. I thought if I had one more sweet item I would surely fall down in a diabetic coma.:) |
I just misspelled it--I knew how to pronounce it!
and it's slough! ha! or . . . maybe slew? did you slew the salmon? it does sound yummy, though. |
Nuffink.
But I had one of Mum & Dad's mince pies earlier. Which Mum has said I can help myself to (as she knows she's in no danger of me filling my boots). So it's kinda like a freebie. |
We are not allowed to accept gifts so it's a Bah Humbug at my workplace
|
The only office goodies I get are cow pies and Chihuahua tootsie rolls ..
 |
even cookies and other treats? Boo!
|
Not even a back room, bring your own goodies bash
Bee-bop? |

we used to get a couple of hours where we had an office party a few glasses of wine and a buffet (supplied by the staffs own money)but we are no longer allocated the time now all alcohol is now banned. Even at retirement events alcohol is no longer permitted... |
Thus far, our superintendent has received a hunk of cheese from one of our vendors. Beyond that, my AR girl brought in a tray of awesome homemade candies.
That's it, though. The boss claims he is going to take us all out for Mexican on Wednesday. Corporate used to give cash bonuses. Two years ago I got $75 and a ham. Last year I got $37.50. This year I get a hoodie with the corporate logo on it. Oh, any my pay cut is effective with the check I get the day after Xmas. This year, I have spent the least amount on Xmas that I have spent in probably 30 years...less than $350 total. Suffice to say that no one is getting much, and that which they are receiving is pretty cheap. Here's to an improving economy. |
I don't get paid for what I do, and I don't get goodies either. but I did get a load of verbal appreciation. Why is it, though, that we generally only think to give "goodies' to those we already pay for their services. I wish I had got some choccies for the lady who organizes the ice hockey schedule. But I did make a point of telling her how much we appreciate her a few weeks ago. i think I'll bring her a little something in the new year.

One of the nuthouses we refer to sends a nice basket. I managed to get two of the chocolate covered pretzels before the ambulance crew got to it.
After that I had some Goldfish crumbs and the beef jerky. Nobody ever gets desperate enough to eat those cheap-o chocolate covered cherries. |
I love chocolate covered cherries. (I hope that's not grounds for admission.)
|
I love GOOD chocolate covered cherries. Trust me, these were cheap-o chocolate covered cherries. I think that using the words "cherry" and "chocolate" is giving this product the benefit of a doubt that it does not deserve.

from Sam Kinnison: "Lick the alphabet. It makes you appear creative, it's an easy diagram to remember, it's like "aaaaa.... beeeee.... ceeee." She'll think you're from fuckin' Europe or somethin: "OH GOD, WHERE'D YOU LEARN THAT, OHHH," and you're going "A, B, C, D, E, F, G." Meh--Europe, France...same thing. |
Hahahaha! Sam Kinnison is kinda "way lower brow!"
and, gee guys--not to brag or anything, but we all got a full extra paycheck as a bonus. AND we got a party with Mexican food and booze! AND I get a week off at Christmas. yay! for lawyers. (brag brag brag) |
Try not to think about the people that got screwed to finance that bragging.
|
no, no, you've got it all wrong--we help people who have been screwed!
and they're grateful. mostly. |

Ah. "Hot Coffee" lawyers. Nice! |
no personal injury!
|
That's what I meant!
|
I know, but we don't do it. We do mostly commercial litigation and business law.
|
Nada. No party and no bonuses this year either. Last year, I got the equivalent of 2 paychecks as a bonus and we had a formal Christmas party.
Guess that's what I get for being in the real estate industry, huh? |
I got a gray fleece vest ... I guess that due to the economic downturn they couldn't afford sleeves on our shirts this year.
I also assume that the economic downturn is responsible for there only being one wreath on the porch this year. Usually they are hung to the left and right of the double doors. It looks lopsided. |
We had a pay-your-own group lunch at a local place; my husband's company had the traditional company party. He also got a bonus (they did very well this last year.)
Since I started working for my organization in September, I have gotten a #2 pencil. That's it. |

A tower of fruit and other goodies from a scrip customer (scrip is the fundraiser I do for the school -we're currently 33% up on last year) It's so pretty! I'm not opening the boxes until tomorrow, though. Wheeeeeeeee, so smiley inside :) |
