When was the last time you changed your hairstyle?

radically, i mean. like relocated your part, or shaved it all off.....

would someone volunteer to do it now and take pictures of the whole deal?

elSicomoro 01-01-2009 10:32 PM

I started shaving my head on a regular about...oh...I guess it's been 5 years now. Didn't realize it has been that long.

Clodfobble 01-01-2009 10:34 PM

About every two years or so I get the urge to cut it way short, above the shoulders. And then I remember what a pain in the ass it is not to be able to tie it back, and I let it grow all the way out again. Last time I cut it short was November of 2007.

BrianR 01-01-2009 10:38 PM

I was shoulder-length for several years. Recently, like within the last six weeks, I cut it all down to one inch. My wife is not thrilled and is sometimes amused at the front hairline, which sometimes stands straight up and makes me look silly.

I could dig up a few pics but not exactly before and after.

Tree Fae 01-01-2009 10:47 PM

Went from long straight hair to a spiral perm last xmas eve... need to have it redone, but its damn expensive, the guys both voted for curls though and its easy to take care of too

Flint 01-01-2009 11:05 PM

October. I had been blow-drying this big, wavy, Conan O'Brien thing every day. Started my new job with a clean slate, shaved my head (four guard). And had been growing the beard since I put in my two-weeks notice. I much prefer to have very short hair that requires no maintenance.

lumberjim 01-01-2009 11:09 PM

so you interviewed with one hairstyle, but shaved it before you started?

Flint 01-01-2009 11:11 PM

Yes, that's correct. I interviewed with very professional-looking hair, and clean-shaven. I started work with a shaved head and a beard.

lumberjim 01-01-2009 11:17 PM

did they say anything?

Flint 01-01-2009 11:19 PM

What the fuck are they going to say? They needed a guy that knew how to do the job, and they got one.

wolf 01-01-2009 11:20 PM

I had short hair with a tail in the 80s.

I think that was the last time that I did something different. Other than that, It's been long, tied back in a ponytail to keep the nuts from grabbing it.

Flint 01-01-2009 11:20 PM

:::something about nuts, grabbing:::

A month ago I got bangs....I think they are working out...

xoxoxoBruce 01-02-2009 01:21 AM

Style? What is this style you mention in connection with hair?
Hot weather the hair goes, cold weather the hair grows.

The last time I shaved (my face) was December 31st, 1969.

Juniper 01-02-2009 01:26 AM

3 years ago it was kinda-sorta short. Looked nice and tame, made me look like a respectable professional gal. I had a portrait photo taken then, which I use for self-promo - on the website, and on the rare occasion I get an article published for which they want a photo. Then I let it grow out and now it's sort of a "shag." I like it better this way.

Stress Puppy 01-02-2009 02:06 AM

I've been buzzing my head with no guard for at least four years now. I've attempted to try something different, growing my hair out or something. But every time I do, it just gets too itchy and I end up buzzing it off again.

Sundae 01-02-2009 05:50 AM

I change my hair every 3-4 months.
Even in this style I sometimes tong it curly, or back-comb it, or change the parting.

DanaC 01-02-2009 05:58 AM

Hair. Hmm. Been pretty much the way it currently is for years. From time to time I let it grow a little, with some vague notion of having long hair...I get halfway to that goal and remember why I prefer it cropped. That happens about once every couple of years.

I don't go in much for hair products or blow drying. I like my hair short enough that I can wet it and muss it with my fingers and that's that. If I'm going out somewhere special I dig out the hair dryer (and ancient heavy as fuck monstrosity bought for a fiver down the car boot sale). I suppose it varies as to whether I go for spikes or not. Sometimes I go very, very short at the cut and let it grow awhile. Other times I get a little cut off and go a bit feathery.

Used to change colours with alarming regularity, but my skin doesn't like me doing that lol. I guess the last time I went for something totally radical, was about 12 or 13 years ago when I went from shoulder length to cropped.

Griff 01-02-2009 08:18 AM

I had been buzzing to like 3/8" but the last couple times I've gone 1/8." I used to wear it baldy but without any tan it looks too nasty this time of year.

Shawnee123 01-02-2009 08:25 AM

I just get too lazy to make an appt. I wait until I"m about ready to shave my head...then get it cut. I have a lot of hair but it's baby fine...so after awhile it just lays there (ya know, like I do) if not layered.

So, I am on the lookout for new hair. Perhaps we'll do a before/after. Right now it's just past my shoulders with very little layering except for growing out bangs.

TheMercenary 01-02-2009 09:07 AM

1978. Went from very long to military short. Over the years it has moved to a ultra short to shaved look. I like it shaved but it is a bit labor intensive.

Pooka 01-02-2009 09:20 AM

Its been far too long... i've nagged Flint for months and he finally said to make an apt with someone else... dammnit. That means I have to pay for the cut and a sitter.

The last Major change I made was in 2005 when I went from having dreadlocks to very very short hair... that stood in a faux hawk all on its own... and required styling product to talk it into a less styled look.

I am looking for someone to give me a nice yet severe swing bob... I want it cut up to my occipital in the back... follow along my jaw line, but drop very dramatically to my bangs which nearly touch my shoulders...

Trilby 01-02-2009 10:06 AM

I have the post cancer, post -chemo curly hair and I HATE it! HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT!

I look like a middle-aged woman who isn't quite sure she wants everyone to know she's gay but she is so totally gay. Know what I mean?

but, it's better than the 'do I had last year. The worst was having no eyebrows or lashes. It really makes you look like a moon-face; a featureless white blob. Unless you are black or brown, then you'd look like a featureless black or brown blob. Not good, either way.

Griff 01-02-2009 10:49 AM

Totally. My Mom was prematurely gray/white before her chemo and it came back kinda dark gray wavy. It just didn't look like her hair.

theotherguy 01-02-2009 01:29 PM

I once went from hair to my shoulders to a crew cut that I rarely took the time to make it stand up correctly. I get it cut short and then don't get another cut for about 2 months. I usually like it about a month from the cut, wait another month - hate it, get it cut short - hate it, then wait. A vicious cycle.

Cicero 01-02-2009 01:35 PM

I already have to cut my bangs again. I'm going to do it myself because I am being economical. I just added 30 percent more maintenance to my daily routine. This sucks. But it does hide a large forehead....It's working for me...

I did it to look more feminine as that is what my ex was demanding. I got the cut and he didn't even notice.

DanaC 01-02-2009 05:33 PM

Is it too soon for me to call him a twat, cic? :P

sugarpop 01-02-2009 05:41 PM

I keep it looong. the main way I change it is with having bangs, not having bangs, or having layers and not having layers. I used to chop it off and wear it reaaally short. Wish I still could. Can't. I will periodically cut 4 or 5 inches off. then I feel naked. But, it's still very long.

Happy Monkey 01-02-2009 07:03 PM

I stopped getting haircuts in high school, some time in the early nineties.

jinx 01-02-2009 07:31 PM

I cut my own hair when I can see the split ends from a distance. Style? Not so much..

Razzmatazz13 01-02-2009 10:54 PM

Last dramatic change was on the very last day of school 6th grade year, I got over 6 inches cut off...and I did it that day on purpose because I knew my friends would all hate me for it because they were in love with my long hair. :D That way, I didn't have to hear about it over the summer.

My hairdresser (who I don't think I'm going to use anymore if I can help it) always bitches that I don't come in to get my hair cut often enough...I let my roots grow till they're several inches long, and only get my hair cut 2-3 times a year. It's frickin crazy expensive, so she can just shhhh.

SteveDallas 01-03-2009 12:25 AM

Hair style - 1987 (went from straight/bangs to parted on the left)
Beard - grew it in 1988; haven't changed since

the 2nd picture is far more swashbuckling. you're on the right path......the only thing left is accessories. I'm thinking gold hoop earrings and a bandanna to complete the pirate look.

You could embrace it and go to interviews in costume. I would pay extra if my It guy came in in prate garb and was real obnoxious and stuff. ...as long as he was really good at his job.

xoxoxoBruce 01-03-2009 02:00 AM

Don't encourage him, attitude cost him the last job.

How long is 'very' long? 'Cause I hear 'very long' I think of Shannon Dougherty from high school, who hadn't had a hair cut, ever. Hair down to about her thighs. Or I think of my circus-acquaintance, Clara, who had hair to just above her butt. And for a guy, I think of my other circus fried, Eric, who's super-curly hair at one point reached his lower back. If it weren't curly, it probably would've been below his butt.

Sundae 01-03-2009 07:35 AM

I knew a Claire who had hair down to her backside.
It was a huge part of who she was, it was almost like a friend of hers rather than part of her. I think she might have talked to it occasionally - well she talked non-stop, so who knows.

Very, very occasionally she would wear it loose. Then she would complain about all the attention she got from men. I sympathised at first - she was dark, petite, ultra-feminine looking (she swore like a sailor and was quite aggressive actually) and I could understand why she resented being pigeon-holed. BUT. After the first few times I began to see through the complaints. When she had her hair loose she acted like a woman in a seventies hair product commercial, flicking it all over the place and shaking her head back and rolling her neck.

She loved the attention it brought. She just wanted to make sure we noticed it too.

She had it cut at around the time we lost contact. To just below shoulder length. I bumped into her in a bar and she was off her face on something and she pinned me into a corner with tears in those big brown eyes because she missed her hair. I saw what she meant though. From extraordinarily long to just average long. Not short enough to make an impact on people who knew her, not long enough to attract strangers. She was diminished.

So I went to the bar to get her a drink and slipped out the side door. Well, I wasn't off my face and wasn't nice enough to sit and listen to her all night!

DanaC 01-03-2009 08:12 AM

Toad, you definately improving with age. Despite the silent scream pose, you're pretty damn hot in that second pic.

The cut I want is ironically the cut I sported from about 8th grade till around 2000 when I dreaded it. Here is a pic of my hair from around 1994. That is exactly what I want it cut like... instead of this mess I have now that hasn't been cut or brushed in months... I did however wash it last night.

Aliantha 01-03-2009 11:34 PM

I change my style and colour often. Most recently I was blonde and about 1 inch long. Now it's back to brunette and I'm in the process of growing it out again. From there I'll probably start doing funky colours again some time after the baby is born. Right now, I just want it to grow out healthy before I start torturing it again too much.

lumberjim 01-03-2009 11:43 PM

that was before your boobs were huge

Aliantha 01-03-2009 11:45 PM

My boobs have always been huge. They're just a bit huger now.

Sundae 01-04-2009 07:14 AM

If my camera battery charges in time I'll give you another RFL of my ever changing hair. I know you want it. I've gone '80s today - curly at the ends with pastel make-up. We're going for a carvery, it seemed highly appropriate.

Pooka that's a delicious picture of you - very Modigliani!
This WILL be the year I lose weight. My face was pointy once upon a time, even if I could never look that cool with my big red peasant cheeks.

Oh fuck off lol. Seriously babe the word 'peasant' has no place in any description of you.

Sundae 01-04-2009 07:20 AM

I do have big red cheeks though.
And washerwomen's hands.

:p

DanaC 01-04-2009 07:36 AM

I think you should give those back, she might need them...

... oh washerwomen's...

Sundae 01-04-2009 07:40 AM

Oh aye - I have them all on a chain around my neck.
Occasionally someone asks me for a hand and I give it over.
They're okay after a few years, they mummify rather than rot.
Monkey paws... they look like little shrivelled monkey paws...

DanaC 01-04-2009 07:46 AM

Did I ever tell you about the rabbit's paw my brother gave me? He'd takn it from a rabbit he'd skinned in a rabbit skinning contest at a poachers' convention in Wales. He hadn't treated it. he came down off the 'stage' where they'd done the skinning and handed me a slightly bloody paw. To be fair he then took it back off me and cleaned it up but it didn't half smell by the time we got back to Bolton...
