Jan 23, 2009: Cariboucicle
Well it's Friday, which means critter time in IOtD.
Usually the Friday critter is a warm and fuzzy type, but today is cold and fuzzy. Jonco, over at Bits & Pieces, posted these pictures with the explanation; Quote:
http://cellar.org/2009/caribou2.jpg http://cellar.org/2009/caribou3.jpg It looks to me like a young female, but I'm having a hard time getting my head around her freezing solid while standing up. I suppose the "pose" could be from bracing against the wind, but it sure looks unnatural. |
Dip that sucker in warm chocolate and you got yourself a tasty treat!
Man that is not good.. I need to burn more hydrocarbons for those poor things..
Not the normal warm and fuzzy Friday fare, but freeze-dried does eliminate some storage issues.
Well, when an Alaskan cop yells "FREEZE!!!" they mean business.
A death worse than fate!
And just because she's frigid doesn't make her a 'she'. |
Looks like they would know how to avoid this fate. I'm sure it's not the first time the caribou has dealt with this. Almost makes me want to call shenanigans. Sad. But since it happened already... somebody build a goddam fire and break out the BBQ sauce.
There's a Palin joke in here somewhere.....
Where can I find the caribou? In the frozen food section.
MMM caribou-cicles. It even has fudge filling!

Now I'm not sure if it is the plural of doe, or does as in done did. If you intended the double meaning, I applaud you. Nay, I worship you! |
Plural is D'oh. :D
If only we'd have drilled in ANWR. She could have found warm refuge near the working pumps.
I've seen many instances of deer/elk/caribou getting stuck while going through deep drifts. They freeze to death, the snow either melts or blows away, and leaves an erect (well, upright, anyway) dead, frozen solid "statue" of the animal.
Pretty freakin' cool. |

A froze-up caribou, huh? Well, I'll be ding-diddly-ding-diddly-ding-dong-danged. Why'd the sucker hold still long enough to freeze on up like that? Maybe he-sheeit was just trying to see if he-sheeit could do it. Maybe it was it win a bet. Maybe it was a gang thing.
Aw heckers, that caribou is stuffed with crab meat.
This thread influenced me to buy a pack of Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches, today.

I'm not going to do a whole clone thread about this, but the title looks like it says carbuncle:

today at work, I caught myself trying to come up with songs for
Cariboucicle the Moucicle! |
just like the mammoth in that movie . . .
Caribrucicle.
caribou au crab er... hang on. I bet buster has a recipe on these critters.
@ LJ: You really need to have that thing seen about. |
LJ was being nice...he could have shown something much more evil looking. Yes I just had to google that sucker.
I think it was a caribou carbuncle. Only not frozen.
