well y'all I can't seem to get away from major projects. First the airplane painting now this: a total kitchen remodel. as you can see we are in the demo stage here. we being my roommate and I. He's been itching to do this and now that i'm here to help, well here we go! we will be replacing the cabinetry, the sink the fridge and the stove. the dishwasher is modern enough to not worry about. the cabinets are on order and are made of maple. the countertops are on order and are made of granite. oh, yeah, we're replacing the sink too. one other minor installation is going to be a water line for the fridge as there wasn't one initially and the one paul put in just ran along the wall. we have a good friend of ours that's a master plumber so he's going to come over and hard pipe us up a line through the wall from the sink around to the back of the fridge through the studs in the wall. here's the damage done so far:

Did you want to stay with us next Fred? Well.... let's see the after photos first I guess...

Dam, that'll keep you busy for a bit. Is kitchen demo-dust considered in the vegetable group? ;)

Gotta love living in the debris of a good project.

plthijinx 07-15-2009 07:27 AM

yeah it's going to be a nice little project. after the kitchen is complete then that's it for the rest of the townhome. everything else has been done. of course we could always find something else to do!

BrianR 07-22-2009 09:24 PM

next chance I get, I'll post pics of my custom garage door install project that took four men and nearly claimed the life of one.

slowly, but surely, we're getting there. the cabinets are in and we're waiting for the granite counter tops. we got a new side by side fridge and a glass top stove as well as an overhead microwave. I installed a dedicated circuit to it and put the outlet in the top center left cabinet. now we just have to mount the microwave. the endcap cupbord/spice cabinet i think is too deep and doesn't fit well with the furdown and entryway there to the office. it will, however, block the view of the fridge which i guess was the idea in the first place.

more when more work is done.

Two weeks since your last update?! That's lightning fast compared to how fast I do my house projects. It would take me 6 months to do what you just did in two weeks.

Looking good!

xoxoxoBruce 08-01-2009 07:33 PM

That's because they can't eat until the kitchen is done. :haha:

the waiting mainly was for the cabinets.

now all that's left is some tile around the spice cabinet a water line to the fridge from the wall to fridge and hook up the line that was run around the kitchen to the sink plumbing area and the countertops.
been a long but fulfilling day. i'm tired.

Is the redecorating something you do for a living or just a hobby?
I think it looks very good! Especially when you compare the pics!

it's "khaki" paint. i tried to get paul to accent the back wall with another color but i guess he decided not to.

If you ever want to make a few bucks, go live with my wife...she'll put ya to work!

Our house needs more work than I care to admit. You've all seen my house tour video by now...

I'll be posting a new one in a month. There's a lot of work done now but more to go! I need a plumber next...

ahhhhhhhlmost done. the counter top guys just left and all that's left is for a friend of ours to show up and install the plumbing. helps having a friend that's a master plumber!! anyway, these counter tops look really good! we're proud of our work. the other day the light above the sink got a new circuit. you see, when paul bought the townhome the only way to turn that light off was to unscrew the bulb. some idiot hard wired the thing. so we went to homo depot and bought a 2-switch single gang switch to control the garbage disposal and dishwasher then i installed a switch for the overhead light. ran it off the hot that feeds the disposal.....oh, and my dumb ass found out that yes, you can, stop a ceiling fan dead with your head.

Those counters look great! Oh, but why are the sinks two different sizes? That is odd to me.

plthijinx 08-14-2009 10:40 PM

thank ya! fletch didn't show up tonight to do the plumbing but it will get done tomorrow even if i have to do it myself. we have a party tomorrow for paul and my birthdays. it'll be operational by 4 tomorrow afternoon

dar512 08-14-2009 11:52 PM

Mighty purty.

xoxoxoBruce 08-15-2009 12:12 AM

Looks great, although I would turn the paper towel holder about 30 degrees to make it face the sink a little bit more.

i fried the plug on the garbage disposal and had to put another one on. the plug that paul bought was for #14 gauge or smaller but all i had at the time was #12 romex. anyway, fixed that and here are the fixtures...

glatt 08-15-2009 03:47 PM

That's looking very good. You do good work.

hmmm... I don't think you can even buy a 14 ga. plug here since it would have to be on a low amp circuit... tw will flip out...

maybe so. just that it was so tight that the ground was touching the hot when the cover got put back on and that was a chore in itself. either way i cooked it.
