4chan's Anonymous punks attention-whoring asshat

Step 1: asshat puts a large balloon into the air and claims to the media that his 6 year old son might be in it

Step 2: large group of Anonymous forum participants determines that the story is bullshit before the major media can figure it out

Step 3: Anonymous uses great skill to determine asshat's residential address

Step 4: Anonymous orders them pizza.

Step 5: lulz on TV.

Sounds like bad parents, at least.

Some public comments on this story accuse the family of a publicity stunt, which is supported by Falcon's own comment to CNN. In an interview, he said "we did this for the show.''
Who is "we", the 2 boys, or more?
Quote:

There's something else that bugs me about this story. Why wasn't there a more thorough search of the house? Yes, the older brother's statements about Falcon taking off in the balloon never changed and kids sometimes hide when they think they're in trouble, according to authorities. But still, why not be sure?
If the parents weren't in on it, I can see if one kid said the other was in the balloon, they would accept it as fact.

glatt 10-16-2009 01:25 PM

Did the parents contact the media, or did the media hear it on the scanner? It got a lot of coverage.

ZenGum 10-16-2009 06:11 PM

 at the whole damn lot.

capnhowdy 10-18-2009 09:23 AM

But now they're facing charges. Very good.

OMG you can see the kid eating the pizza!!!!1 Starting at 1:36, and continuing in several more shots. I feel famous.

Clodfobble 10-18-2009 10:19 AM

Flint... was that you, on 4chan?

Flint 10-18-2009 10:21 AM

Huh? No... I said I feel famous.

For wasting thousands of dollars of tax money and the manpower of public officials for a publicity scam.

Cloud 10-18-2009 10:56 AM

I don't believe it was a publicity scam. And I don't think parents who've lost a child should have to pay for the police to help them look. Now they're searching the house. For what? extra cardboard boxes? Ridiculous.

They didn't lose a child, and if the knew that all along, should pay for the time and fuel wasted chasing after that balloon, and backtracking the route, searching for the kid, after the balloon turned up empty.

You're basing your criticism of the police on the fact you don't believe it was a scam, but you don't know. Neither do the cops, but there is enough evidence to question it, so they should.

They searched JonBenet Ramsey's house too, and discovered she was murdered there, not kidnapped.

Cloud 10-18-2009 12:45 PM

I'm basing it the sheriff's initial reaction that it wasn't a hoax, but you're right, I don't know. I'm just trying to imagine this conversation: Okay, buddy, I want you to pretend to steal the balloon, and pretend to fall out, but I really want you to hide in the attic. And then you have to lie when the reporters show up, and oh yeah, you have to lie to your brother, too, so he can be convincing when the cops show up. You got all that? Can I trust you to do this? You'll be sent to bed without supper if you don't lie to the cops.

Pretty genius 6 year old to pull this off.

There are plenty of kids who get lost. Would parents hesitate to call the police if they are made to pay for rescue services if the kid finds his way home again? This is wrong.

elSicomoro 10-18-2009 01:10 PM

Sounds like a hot tasty scam now.

If a child is really missing, I don't think most parents would give a rat's ass what the possible costs are to get them back. They'd want to do anything and everything, to get their baby back.... babyback, babyback, babyback, babyback :yum:

Cloud 10-18-2009 03:30 PM

if so, then perhaps they should face charges. I just worry about the boy who cried wolf syndrome.

But not quite genius enough. Why didn't he come out of the attic? His words: "Um...You guys said that...um...we did this for the show." You know, the reality TV show deal that the parents have been trying to get...since long before they cooked up this balloon scam. And then, when their kid was supposedly floating away, called the TV stations before they called 911.

xoxoxoBruce 10-18-2009 07:25 PM

This guy claims he helped planning the stunt.

Cloud 10-18-2009 08:06 PM

well, I'm disappointed.

Cloud 10-18-2009 09:04 PM

that the kids were involved in this scheme

Cicero 10-19-2009 12:02 AM

The news report I heard said it was a hoax. They didn't even bother with the word "alleged".

kerosene 10-20-2009 09:38 AM

Why does this crap always happen in my town?

My sister in law drove by their house. They live right next to where I went to elementary school.

I don't case- why don't you tell us? :p

What can I say...the crazies just like me. :)

Sundae 10-21-2009 02:23 PM

"I told them you were living downtown, driving all the old men crazy"
Anything you want to tell us Case?

ZenGum 10-21-2009 04:31 PM

I see the one of the possible charges is "contributing to the delinquency of a minor".

If that sticks, the entire internet could be arrested.

Flint 10-22-2009 04:21 PM

Richard Heene had a children's TV show called BOX TIME.
You can't make stuff like this up. You can buy the VHS on Amazon.

Clodfobble 10-22-2009 05:06 PM

The Amazon reviews are awesome:

Quote:

I bought this video for my children, in order to introduce to them the fun, wholesome world of boxes. What happened instead was that they just decided to hide away in boxes all the time! I eventually told them "enough!" and put the boxes away in the attic, but that didn't stop them! They found it even easier to hide away for long periods because I never thought to look for them up there! It has gotten so bad that I cannot have any boxes around the house at all! Even the smallest boxes! I will sometimes find my youngest curled up in bed with a shoe box on his head, sound asleep, with that tissue paper that comes with the shoes stuck to his lip. It is wrecking my home! I will still be checking out Box Time #2, in case it offers a more healthy view of boxes and box activities.
Quote:

Until this day I had only regarded the common household box as container for inanimate objects. Such a fool was I!

This VHS changed everything. My eyes have been opened to the many, many uses of boxes.

For instance, this afternoon I hid from police in a box for several hours, while the global community believed I was suffering asphyxiating hypothermia in a speeding weather balloon built by my UFO-obsessed parents.

BOX LOVE 4 LYFE Y'ALL

toranokaze 11-15-2009 10:35 PM

It reminds me of my weighted companion cube.

I miss my cube.

The man who pulled a hoax by saying his 6-year-old son was drifting over Colorado in a balloon must pay $37,000 in restitution, a judged ordered.

As Richard Heene completed his 90-day sentence with home detention this month, his wife, Mayumi Heene, began serving her 20-day sentence on weekends, according to a jail official. Her time is not spent in a jail cell, but on a Saturday and Sunday work detail, a probation official said.

Prosecutors said the couple staged their son's disappearance last October to generate publicity for themselves because they wanted to star in a reality television show. Richard Heene pleaded guilty in November to a felony count of attempting to influence a public servant, while she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor of making a false report. The judge also sentenced the couple to four years probation.

That was much sooner than I expected. I wonder who he pays and how they arrived at that amount.
