Baseball Playoffs, 2009
The Evil Yankees may have taken game 1, but I like how the Angel's pitching matches up for the rest of the rotation. It'll go to 6 games (we will lose to CC one more time), but we'll take the series.
Go Halos. |
i've been an angels fan since early california.
we're heading off into the 13th inning. 13 is my lucky number...lets go angels. :corn: |
Oh. what a heartbreak.
|
its not over yet, the angels should win at home.
i'm actually in a dilema as i placed money on the yankees winning the american league and the world series at the start of the season, and yet the angels winning it all is more important to me. we'll see. i would like to see the dodgers on the other side rather than the phillies. |

You could tell it was going to end ugly. All the pitchers were getting it done, but the fielders were tired, cold, and wet. Assumed crazy start times aside, Aneheim is a better place to play ball this time of year. |
Yeah, but even if we sweep at home, we have to go back and take one more away in NY.
|
I like the rest of the Yankees okay, but Derek Jeter can kiss my ass.
|
If I was him, I would.
|
Girardi got out-managed. Yah gotta feel good for the Cali players, if not the hockey toy fans, for ducking the sweep.
|
its best out of 7, so no one was in for a sweep.
the longer this series goes on, the stronger the angels will get as their batting depth is much greater than the yankees. the angels have more bats than the yankees do. just you wait till rivera, morales and guerero start going yard. this is the world series |
The Yanks don't have hitters on the bench but given a choice I take a deeper bull pen over more bats. Aceves is much better than last night showed, it almost makes me think he didn't warm properly expecting the guy with the highest strikeout ratio in mlb to stay in the game.
|
Harder to hit home runs in Angel stadium than in the little-league field the Yanks play to. Easier to bunt and run because of how the field crew manages the edges and the dirt. That will play to our game over the next two, and I expect to win them.
Then, we have to go back to NY and take at least one away there. That's going to be tough. Good news is, last night's game was the first time all series that the Angels have looked like themselves. |
The umpires either need to get their feces consolidated or they're going to have to ban the replay.
|
phillies are winning 6-3 in the 5th. on to the world series for the 2nd year in a row if they win tonght.
|
9-3 in the eighth Whooo Hooooo! Go Phils
|
WORLD SERIES AGAIN!
Woohoo! |
Can't wait to meet you there. It's gonna be a sea of red.
Go Go Angels! |
Put your shoe back on, Mr Kruschev!

Oh man, I held my breath the whole way through the last 4 innings last night. Uuuuuuuugly, but at least it was a win.
|
I'd prefer that the Phillies play the Angels rather than the Yankees...
It will be a slightly less violent outcome when we win!!! |
A four o'clock start would have been nice... Looks like 1/2 a game for me tonight.
|
3-1 yankees, top of the 7th.
i thought i'd find some pleasure in winning money on the yankees winning the al, but i don't..... i know that the angels can come back and win this thing....game 7 is up in the air if we do it goooooo angels!!!! |
Well that was the kiss of death right there.
|
Oh well.
Good luck, Phillies. Knock 'em dead. |
looking like the phils will be down 2-1.....it's 7-4 in the 7th
|
There's nothing evil about the Yankees. They are quite simply the finest team to ever grace a baseball diamond with the imprint of their feet.
I know there's a lot of Philly people on this board, so I've tried to keep quiet, but 40 pennants, and 26 rings (soon to be 27) don't lie. |

WTF!?!? Derek Jeter is the most universally liked person in baseball. He's a humanitarian. He's classy. He's cool. He's a great leader. He is one of maybe 5 people that ANY team in the major leagues would sign if they got the chance. How can you possibly dislike Derek Jeter? That's like saying, "You know what? I hate Mother Theresa. What a bitch!" |

aybar would be the number 1 choice of any team at short stop. then rollins, and then any number of young up and coming shortstops. jeter is old, there are less than a handfull of teams that would ever consider signing him under desperation. Quote:

Band wagon jumpers suck. Especially those that wait till a team is leading in the World Series. |
Question. Are the Reds still in it?
bwahahahhaa |

Band wagon jumpers? You've got nerve man. I was born in New York. I've been a fan of the Yankees since I was 4 years old. I made my first bet on the Yankees in 1977. I've been watching them all my life. I wear a hat I got at the original Yankee stadium. You have no idea what you're talking about. |
For the record....
EVERY SINGLE TEAM IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES..would sign Derek Jeter if given the opportunity.... including the Angels. |
But they can't because the NYY payroll is 2.5 times the median.

FWIW - I own a seat from the original Yankee Stadium. I have more memorabilia than most can imagine. Yet I am now a Phillies Phan. I live here I have for 30 years - It was the right thing to do. I admit that I still have a lingering fondness for the Yankees though. |
My younger brother got to see The House That Ruth Built in the last season there, much like he saw Boston Garden before it went the way of so many neat old sports venues.
I get a little choked up thinking about it, and I'm not even a big baseball fan. Maybe it's my love of old buildings, and the memories therein. I'm betting my bro shed a tear upon seeing Yankee Stadium. He did his usual "show up a couple hours before the game and check the whole place out" before it's overrun with humans. We were brought up with the Reds, of course, but you can't deny the history of the Yankees, and what they are to baseball. |

Is this a baseball thread, 'cause this would be a good time to talk about the assholiness of one Ben Roethlisberger. Jackass.
:bolt: |

thats simply stupid. the man is old, overpaid, and past his prime, why tf would any team with a decent ss want him? because you say so? who tf are you? :smashfrea |

for the record, the angels have recieved offers, some ridiculously high offers for aybar, which they've declined. the yankees, to my knowledge, have not recieved any offers for derek jeter this year. aybar who is 10 years younger than jeter, who is clearly a better defencive player than jeter at this time. he's clearly faster than jeter. and appears to be a greater prospect at bat than jeter did at his age. now you say any team would sign jeter... thats funnier than it sounds. you're saying that the florida marlins would sign jeter. ok, so lets take a closer look at that scenario. florida, now owns jeter, so what options do they have, use him as a bench player?, like a designated hitter? or would they bench hanley ramirez? batting .342 this season with 106 rbi's.... yeah, like thats gonna happen, and again, just like aybar, hanley is a decade younger than jeter....wake tf up looks like you didn't really think this through, so i can only assume that you meant trading hanley for jeter? well, sure, but the yankees would have to include texiera, chamberlain and a couple young prospects in the deal, and even then, i'm not so sure the marlins would agree. don't get me started here. how about the mets? the yankees would have to put in all the above to get the fastest shortstop in the game jose reyes. or how about colorado's tulowitzki? all of the above players offer more on the field than jeter, either with their bat, or their defencive skills. and all are 10 years younger or more. if i owned a baseball team, i would consider short stops like young, orlando and azdubul cabrera, even guzman might be preferable to jeter.... hell i'd even take a lesser calibure player with an underage prospect for the future rather than jeter. most teams see it that way, and do so. you must be living in the past when jeter's arm was stronger than it is, and he actually had a future. as it stands, his years are limited, thus making his trading value close to nil. next time you make a statement, get your facts straight first. |

You are not the superior being you fancy yourself. I do like the opportunity to remind you of that from time to time. |

this is about wether the baseball teams agree or not with his statement Quote:
radar, was being stupid, so i didn't use the word idiot, i used the word stupid. idiot. |
I'm not an idiot. Next time you make a statement, get your facts straight.

Any team in the majors would sign him merely for the fact that he'll put asses in seats, he's a great leader, he is one of the best players in the league, he's got class, character, and he's an all around winner. They may have him in a position other than short stop, or they might move another player and have Jeter groom someone else to be the kind of leader and winner that he is. |
... and Jeter scores.
|
There goes Tokyo.
|
at least it will be over....
|
It sure has been fun riding on this 36 year bandwagon. It's nice to support a team that has been in 46% of all World Series since 1923, and won 31% of them.
The Yanks did a great job of breaking in the new stadium with a World Series ring. The way the players were talking about Steinbrenner, I'm wondering if he should be on my next death pool list. |
You'd be on mine, if you were somebody. :)
|
I am somebody. I'm just not somebody who is a celebrity. I hope I don't die next year. I'd like to stick around long enough to see my daughter grow up, go to college, and turn into a strong, intelligent, independent, and happy woman.
