Dwellar Christmases

Post what you want, pics, vids, Christmas wishes etc.
I know there have been lost of Christmas threads, but I've not found any applicable for exactly what I want to say. For those in the same predicament, here it is! Turducken. Or three bird roast. The stuffing was lovely, but the roast tasted mostly of chicken (shhhh, don't tell Mum) Dinner table laid for the three of us - we gave up after Christmas pudding, eschewing the usual chocolate liquers and cheese & crackers. We're getting old! |

My plate.
Roast parsnips & brussels sprouts on Mum & Dads'. Bleurgh. Christmas pudding after we'd all been served. Too many nuts in for Mum & me. But a lovely rich taste all the same. |

Pudding in bowl with Double cream.
We didn't heat the brandy hot enough to set it alight. But it was doused anyway :) Still pic of the toasting. |
And our toast!
As I said in a previous thread - I didn't really think through being closest to the camera! What a fatty :) But we wanted to toast you all. No names because Mum is very careful re YouTube (note, not even my brother and sister are named). |
That warmed my heart! Bravo.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, SG! |
so, the other day, I got a program for my phone called "Itookthisonmyphone." it automatically uploads pictures you take on your phone to a hosting site which you can select public or private albums for. It didn't say anything about video, but i took this a few minutes ago, and by the time I came inside, it was already up on their site. I uploaded this one manually from memory while I wrote this post.
Oh....and they both got this cool sled that Ripley demonstrates in the first vid, and Ripsticks, which spencer is riding in the second. Also BB guns which I didn't take video of..... |
And a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, SG,:celebrat:
..And to everyone on the Cellar. If I'm reading this right, in England you can get a pre-made turducken for $US16 at the current exchange rate. Wow! |
Merry Christmas SG! Thanks for sharing yours with us! :)
|
I'm afraid that the pics of Gavin, Kaleigh and Selene are all that I have to share so far. We won't be doing our family Yule until Sunday, and so far today has been about watching Xmas movies, eating and having hot toddies, so not much to photograph. Perhaps I'll take a couple of pics when K and I go out to get more firewood for the woodstove. The woodpile is nicely buried in our 7" snow, and the logs are pretty much frozen together from the ice and sleet that preceded.
|
Merry Christmas, everyone. Be safe and be happy.

Merry Christmas all, we're having a good time in the glatt household. Here's a shot of breakfast. Scrapple, fruit salad, scrambled eggs, and Moravian sugar cake. Hadn't had scrapple in years and it was delicious.
And then one of my playing around with a new macro lens attachment for my camera. |

Selene making cookies with her new KitchenAid mixer. Yes, they're Xmas cookies. :D
You can't tell in this pic, but it is 91 degrees F in the kitchen because the woodstove is about fifteen feet away from where she's standing. |

Thanks SG, excellent Christmas party.
Here's what I cooked for Christmas Day. Some yummy lamb. |
We had lamb as well. Butterflyed leg of lamb on the grill. It was very good.

No pics...I looked ragged, haggard and drawn. Been a rough couple of months. :(
However, Christmas dinner was delicious. Steak on the grill, ceasar salad (I taught S21 how to make from scratch), sauteed mushrooms, corn on the cob, dilled baby red potatoes, and dinner rolls. I forgot to make the steamed asparagus. Oh well. We invited a friend (age 19) of my son's over, she got no presents for Christmas and not even a 'Merry Christmas' from her dad, who she lives with. She was feeling unloved and unwanted, poor girl. Also had son's girlfriend for dinner. Then we watched Harry Potter 6 while we had pie and whipped cream. |
We had family over. One brought turkey, another mashed potatoes. We made carrots, stuffing, provided two pies for dessert and I managed to bake dinner rolls since we forgot to buy those. Not bad either, especially since you figure I'm not a good baker.
|
Scriven - I want to fall face first in to that plate !!! it Looks YUMMMMMMMY !!
Stormy - You did a Good thing inviting that young lady , she will remember it for YEARS to come !! I Know I remember Holiday dinners when I was away from home in the USMC . |
I love that the British have taken to the turducken to the point that a ready-made one is available!
My Christmas, and Christmas Eve were spent at the Nuthouse. We were at 50% staffing, and had full patient flow. On Christmas Eve I wore my Grinch sweatshirt, since I knew that I'd be grinching somebody's Christmas. Turned out to be quite a few somebodies. Ditto last night ... half staff and full patient load. Chinese delivery for Christmas Eve, the leftovers last night. I figured it would be better than sitting at home and brooding. |
We are still sneaking up on our family Xmas tomorrow. Not much going on in this town right now as we are up to 9" of snow. Selene has gone over to see the baby, and I'm waiting for a call that she's on her way back so I can start dinner. Later, I have a few more things to wrap and get under the tree, then I have to go to be early as I need to be up at 6:00 to get a 24# bird in the oven.

I took some pictures of the family tuucking into Christrmas dinner yesterday but I haven't loaded them onto the computer yet but here's a picture I took this morning at 7.o clock.
Me and the dog was out for his morning walk in the local park and while he zipped off chasing rabbits I took this picture on my phone, the vibe was so great with the cold weather and freezing fog rolling through the park and it was so quiet. |
That's an eerie shot be-bop.

Who does the baking at the North Pole? Santa's wife, right? And one of the best and yummiest Christmas desserts is a Yule Log. So, here, I present to you . . .
Santa's Log, otherwise known as Mrs. Claus' Buche. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...9/IMG_4022.jpg |

Hoedown looks fun!
And yah, the log looks way too pretty to eat. Pale for a yule log too. Most yule logs I've seen are dark brown and dusted with 'snow'. |

Amazing what a snow bunny she is, after being born in sunny So Cal - she has definitely acclimated quite nicely. |
"SnowBunny" is the first thing that came to mind! cute kid!

You know, in the end Boxing Day wasn't so bad.
Sis & (now slightly more dysfunctional) family came - although we weren't sure if they were coming until 10.00 on said day. And played happy family apart from a couple of tense stand offs due to ill-phrased remarks and a hissed convo between sis and Mum which kept everyone out of the kitchen for about 15 minutes. So there was tension, which does upset me more than it should. But no outright rows at least. And I finally realised how unattractive cheating and lies are. I was always indulged by my friends. When I was >15 I was very small, physically. I was babied a bit, despite my sharp edges. I used to cheat blatantly at things like cards and other games with a wide-eyed "I didn't understand the rules!" expression. When I was <16 I had big knockers. So cheating at things like pool and crazy golf were completely acceptable, because no-one was looking at your score card. But my niece cheated at the general knowledge game we were playing. Mum and I were on her team and dissauded her as much as possible. But she also lied. Example, saying she had had the right answer but that I had made her cross it out. WHA??!! It was a number based quiz. Might as well enter my Dad in a spelling bee. I would never "make" someone amend an answer. I only know my PIN number because I use rhyming words for it and can visualise a story. Example if my number was 2095 - which it is not! - it would be shoe, oh, vine, hive - a clown (big shoe), falling down a hole (OH!), climbing up a vine, only to find a beehive at the top, running around being stung. It really isn't as complicated as it sounds, because the visual image works. Seriously - I only have two cards (one a cashpoint/ ATM only and one a pre-pay credit card. I still use a story for each of them... So, GRRR. We won, but I didn't value the win :( Glad they brought the game though (it was a simple card game and I applaud it even though it hit my weakest subject). Even better, my BIL started a lively game of the Minister's Cat, which engaged all of us without any sniping, and no point scoring. Yay for parlour games! And anyway, my bro was there and we exchanged a couple of sly/ in jokes and had some fun. Mum's been pretty tetchy since yeaterday, but she does have an examination on Weds, so she might be gearing up for it. I've come up tonight to escape from her. I'll go out walking tomorrow (as I did today) and hope the mood passes. This time next year... One way or another I will just be a visitor in this house. |
It is pale actually, because I didn't make the usual mocha silk frosting. Instead, I used some cocoa powder, some vanilla extract, some SuperFine Baker's Sugar, and a LOT of heavy cream and made Chocolate Whipped Cream as a coating. There were no complaints, lol!

Spent the early Christmas morning driving to MA. The Oak dresser I bought for Mom hadn't been delivered to my brother. Afternoon in the nursing home with Mom.
Saturday with Mom and then visit my 89 year old Aunt. Sunday at the nursing home for Mom's 90th birthday, the back to PA. Today the dresser was delivered. Quote:
|
Now that will make you want to snatch a knot in somebody's ass.
|
That really sux! I'm not too far from you . . . if I can help let me know.
|
Um, yeah... but the dresser is 300 miles away and the manufacturer is a thousand. The drawback of shopping online. :(
|
Ohhhh - gotcha!
|
Glad the day worked out ok in the end Sundae:)
