So. What's NEW with YOU?

I feel so out of the loop.

what's new?

glatt 01-22-2010 07:53 AM

We're beginning to plan a vacation to the desert southwest this year. In August.

Sundae 01-22-2010 08:41 AM

I'm going to Cardiff tomorrow with Mum. We're staying until Monday lunchtime. On Sunday evening I'm going to the final appearance of John Barrowman in panto for this season. Yay!

Have printed off vouchers for restaurants for the weekend, including 40% off at Yo Sushi!

Oh and I recoloured my hair this afternoon.
Mum didn't say a word, so I know she hates it.
Never mind - I needed to look fabulous for my public this weekend and do justice to my new clothes.

LOTS of pictures to follow.

Undertoad 01-22-2010 09:16 AM

!

DanaC 01-22-2010 09:25 AM

@ Lookout: Wtf? You had a tumour?

@ Sundae: Yo Sushi? Yum! Capn Jack? Double Yum!

lookout123 01-22-2010 09:29 AM

Eh, nothing major. a skin cancer kept coming back and it turns out the bugger did what they don't usually do and made a run for the bone. Thankfully I have a thick skull. Tuesday they took out about a golfball worth of tissue at the exact top of my skull. Pretty freaky to watch but honestly the worst part was the listening.

kerosene 01-22-2010 09:34 AM

yikes, lookout! I am glad you are okay. Good for you keeping up on the skin abnormalities.

New with me: been working a lot, actually. I got featured on Etsy's main page yesterday, which was cool. I didn't even know it. Today I am watching my 2 year old niece. Yay!

Ahhh. Now you mention it, the 'skin cancer' thing rings a bell with me. Glad they got it and you're ok.

monster 01-22-2010 09:42 AM

Ouch, L123. Did they remove bone?

New? Just finishing the blankets for the Disney Give a Day Get a Day thing, ready for delivery on Monday. Hector has taken up hockey at the ripe old age of 10 and is loving it. I'm going to see Ladysmith Black Mambaza on the 1st. Not much.

BrianR 01-22-2010 10:17 AM

I lost a crown two days ago during supper. Yesterday was spent at the dentist getting the old tooth prepared for a new crown today.

My mouth hurts!

Today I get the new one cemented on and it shouldn't hurt any more than it does now. I hope. Total cost to me: $200.

Brian

xoxoxoBruce 01-22-2010 11:06 AM

Only $200? Must be a small kingdom. ;)

Clodfobble 01-22-2010 11:20 AM

Goddamn car needed repairs.

Paid a visit to the chiropractor who helped me two years ago, and once again I instantly switched from immobile agony to completely pain-free. The man is awesome.

Found a mystery box in the garage, must have been left by a previous resident, which contained a huge collection of old (blank) postcards from the 1940s. Shipped the whole mess off to a vintage postcard dealer, who's going to tell me if any of them are worth anything.

Been reading up on biofilms.

Sounds like he went to Palmer school.

Clodfobble 01-22-2010 11:38 AM

I dunno, maybe. He also works on animals, specifically lame horses that have been slated to be put down. I asked how the hell he can pop a horse's back, and he said it's actually easier than a person's, because their spine spends all day being horizontal instead of having gravity compact it. He just stands on a couple bales of hay to get high enough for leverage, and *snapcracklepop* the horse is walking fine again.

We are on day 5 of snow - fairly unusual for this part of the world. I guess Cali exported all its bad weather to us. The cats have a bad case of the shack nasties and are driving me crazy. :thepain:

classicman 01-22-2010 11:51 AM

Throw the cats out in the snow for a few minutes - they'll sleep the rest of the day, fer sure.

Pie 01-22-2010 12:20 PM

Lookout -- glad you made it through okay!
My mom just had a suspected melanoma removed from the sole of her foot. They really should tell us dark-skinned folks to look out for moles on otherwise light-skinned parts of our anatomy... Hands, feet, insides of mouths (!)...

DanaC 01-22-2010 12:29 PM

The idea of skin cancer scares the shit out of me. A colleague's father wasn't diagnosed in time because his eczema masked the condition.

Bullitt 01-22-2010 12:57 PM

My dad gets basal cells removed and biopsies done every couple of months for skin cancer on his head and shoulders. Consequences of growing up in Texas and Palm Springs/Desert.

Pie 01-22-2010 01:34 PM

He's lucky -- BCCs almost never metastasize to other parts of the body.

Bullitt 01-22-2010 01:53 PM

Yeah he's only had a couple melanomas pop up, but since he's in so often they were taken care of immediately. Even if not life-threatening, still has to suck getting things frozen and sliced off your skin so often.

I had a crown done on Wednesday - my first. I won't say how much it cost but it was rather more than the Sterling equivalent of $200!
I suppose that some of that cost would be accounted for in the need to prepare my tooth, whereas that part of the procedure was already done in your case. I still don't think I got much of a bargain.

Carruthers.

Oh, all right, I give in. It was £380.:thepain:

DanaC 01-22-2010 04:51 PM

My last dentist trip cost me £460 or thereabouts. That included an x-ray, couple of fillings, two extractions, some repair work on my veneers and deep sedation. Most of the cost was the sedation because that isn;t offered via their NHS pricing structure, but comes under their private procedures.

Glad that it's nothing major and all seems to be under control. I am in equal parts completely freaked out and fascinated/curious by how you managed to watch the procedure...

Pie 01-22-2010 08:17 PM

E over h.

BrianR 01-22-2010 09:19 PM

Carruthers - mine was mostly warranty work. All I paid for was the root canal. Mexico is cheap for dentistry. If they hadn't not had the sleep guy in that day, I'd have paid another $200 to sleep through it. Money well spent, IMO. But, I survived. Again. New crown is in place and I'm feeling better.

And once again I forgot to bring a quarter so I can walk across the border. Had to mug some blind guy and sell his pencils to get money. Again. I really MUST remember to bring change when I go south. :D

lookout123 01-22-2010 10:02 PM

How? With my exceptionally long and flexible eyestalks, of course. oooor, i held a mirror. The doc (who I like) was going out of his way to explain absolutely every detail of what he was doing before he would do it. That was really getting to me, so I told him to hand me a mirror and I'd stop him if I had a question. Kind of weird, but it worked to stop the discussion.

xoxoxoBruce 01-23-2010 01:40 AM

Just tell him, a little off the top. ;)

monster 01-24-2010 09:40 PM

Hey, you know what's not new with us but should be......

I also owe Jaydaan another gift as mine didn't make it. gd stupid post office!

Undertoad 01-25-2010 09:36 AM

Talk about not making it with the post office... they claimed Reg Joe's package would take only days to reach him. It's like 2 and a half months or something now. WTF. They must have had a problem with it or something.

Sundae 01-25-2010 03:35 PM

I think Mum thinks she is coming to Glasgow with me next year for the 2010 Pantomime (Aladdin). She is so not.
