Las Vegas GTG 2011
 

Is anyone up for a GTG in Las Vegas? If my family stays at the Flamingo, we have access to the 2nd best pool in Vegas. The Flamingo Hilton timeshare has BBQ grills, so we can host a small BBQ.

I haven't gone to a pool in 50 pounds.

I was actually thinking of going to Vegas for a few days sometime this spring.

Vegas has turned into a friggin cesspool. As long as you stay inside the casino you are cocooned. We went in July of last year and I could not believe how dirty it down among the casinos. A bunch of unfinished buildings due to the crash of the economy, people handing out porn cards every 10 feet to anyone who passes, including kids and families, and twice as many of those cards strewn about the sidewalks under continual states of repair and disprair... uggg, just plain nasty.

Perhaps we should have a cellar community service project and clean up Vegas?

It would take years. I really think if they could just control the people passing out the porn on the sidewalks it would do wonders. Don't get me wrong, I am not against porn, but the way it is handed out in front of kids and families is screwed up. We did see some really nice parts of LV but you had to leave the strip and move to the outskirts. Why the hell they ever let them build up that place in the middle of a desert...

Vegas is not for kids and families.

Or come to Reno. Then you could also visit Lake Tahoe. Great place for a BBQ.

Mum was really put out about those porn cards. Asking her to litter would be like asking her to wet her pants - it's simply not done. So any they were handed she thrust into her bag. She could usually avoid them, but Dad was too slow on the update (so he says :) She was then faced with the dilemma of what to do with them - she couldn't take them back and dispose of them in the hotel, the staff would think she'd been collecting them and using them! Yes, we know the staff wouldn't give a toss, but Mum is hyper sensitive to other people's opinions.

So she spend quite a bit of time looking for rubbish bins on the Strip!

I can't stretch the finances to make your GTG, Rich. But you are welcome to ours in Glasgow if you have more flexible finances. No pool, no BBQ and no tanning opportunities. But John Barrowman, Russian food and good company. And you can bring your own porn if you like.

I think we should all stay at the Blue Moon Resort in Vegas.

I would go for the food. But other places have food.

Even the food is not that great unless you go and spend a few hundred on dinner.

I'm taking the wife and kids to Vegas in August. And as soon as we get our rental car, we're getting the hell out of there. North Rim bound.

Smart move. Just don't walk the sidewalks with the kids.

Actually, the people you have to watch out for are the timeshare salesmen, given the state of the economy I can only imagine they've gotten more desperate.

I never had porn cards thrust at me. I think the hucksters knew the cops would come down on them. All of the ones I saw stood by intersections and flicked the cards. They would only thrust them at you if you looked interested.

This was almost two years ago, so maybe they've also gotten more desperate.

I always enjoyed the Flamingo Buffet. The food is at least as good as a decent diner, and you really can't go wrong with 50 pounds of shrimp on ice, which is one of the first things you see when you go in. There are better, more expensive, and classier places, but for the price I found it very good, and I didn't need to drive to it.

Rimming in Vegas? That brings back memories.

It was fantastic, if we could afford it we were going to make it a yearly thing... the amount of money we dumped at that place was ridiculous, we had a ball.

I dont recall what the sidewalks looked like, or sun for the whole time we were there.

I highly recommend restaurant.com, tix4tonight, and staying away from the gaming tables as a good way to save money in Vegas.

But...all the fun stuff happens near the tables...

We didnt really spend much at the tables, I "acquired" some chips as a gift and we had a lovely night in the high rollers room with some men that thought money could buy anything...they told us to put anything we wanted on their tab....luv luv luv vegas.
