What are you doing today to be healthy, wealthy, and wise?

You can interpret this as broadly as you like. I want to hear your positive actions. I want to be inspired and motivated to use my time and money wisely. I'm so lazy (I call it "low energy") that I just want to hear how you are using your time productively, for positive physical, mental, emotional, or financial returns.

Here's what I've done today (so far)
--put money in savings account
--track some of my spending
--read in one of my personal finance books and thought about possible additional streams of income
--entered sweepstakes
--ate chickpeas

:D

Healthy: I Walked 4.0mph for 1hr on level 15 incline, then did 50 cable crunches with 57.5lbs and some assorted arm/upper body shit.
Wealthy: I hit the beef sale at Martin's, got 3.55lb beef tenderloin for $30.
Wise: I read the cellar.

Clodfobble 02-13-2010 07:30 PM

Healthy: We're trying out bison meat tonight. All-natural, and a lower fat content than beef.
Wealthy: Filed the taxes last night. Months of meticulous record-keeping and organization are finally paying off in the form of a large refund.
Wise: Went to the doctor at the first sign rather than waiting for the pain to fluorish again. (This doesn't count as being healthy because the illness is already here, I'm just fighting it off at this point.)

skysidhe 02-13-2010 08:16 PM

Healthy; drinking less caffeine and more water.Enjoying the small and simple things.
wealthy; awaiting advancement training secondary approvals. At least I'll be doing something.
wise; contingency planning for parent and for self

Cloud 02-13-2010 09:43 PM

excellent! and everyone's so neat . . .

but that's another thread!

lookout123 02-13-2010 11:04 PM

Mrs Lookout. Seems to work for me.

Gravdigr 02-15-2010 01:12 PM

I ate two microwave burritos. For breakfast.

limey 02-15-2010 01:22 PM

Nothing. Nothing at all. I'll do something ... tomorrow ... perhaps.

Sundae 02-15-2010 01:25 PM

Today I walked into town, and to the local shop, and to my Grandad's (okay, that's just around the corner)
I took the old bread from the freezer to defrost, and will walk to feed the ducks tomorrow.

In town, I bought sandwich fixings for Grandad, so he doesn't have me going into town for him every day to buy a shop-bought snadwich. That's saving his money, not mine, but as I never have any I think it should count. I'll be making him a sandwich every day instead.

Oh and I admitted I do NOT need a new Hello Kitty watch, even if it is gorgeous and only £8.99. Which doesn't make me wealthy, but shows wisdom.

Pie 02-15-2010 02:10 PM

Healthy: ate a banana and a side of zucchini for lunch. Stomach still hurting from last week's food poisoning incident.
Wealthy: Came to work. :)
Wise: Read up on pair-instability supernova (ex: SN2007bi) -- does that count?

Griff 02-15-2010 02:44 PM

Day off of work XC skiing...

Cloud 02-15-2010 04:11 PM

yesterday was kind of a bust. Spent too much money; didn't exercise.

But today, I checked my credit reports for the first time in (too long).

Good news: all the bad stuff has dropped off
Bad news: I don't have enough credit for a score.

This means I have to start applying for credit cards and stuff. I don't want credit cards, because I don't want debt. But I want to see if I can buy a house in a couple of years.

STUPID system!

monster 02-15-2010 04:15 PM

pay them off each month when the bill comes. no debt.

mortgage = big debt.

Cloud 02-15-2010 04:22 PM

yeah, but they are dangerous, and at least with a house I get an asset and get to realize a life-long dream.

I could get a car loan for a new car, probably. But my car still runs great.

If you use your credit card in an organized fashion for convenience, you'll never be tempted to rack up debt on it. For example, you could decide to get a card that is only for groceries. Use it for all your groceries, and only your groceries. It'll never be a big deal to pay it off each month, since you already know you can afford the food you're already paying for, and you're probably not going to suddenly stock up on piles and piles of expensive meats just because you have a card in your hand at the store (you won't, right?) You've mentioned before that you'd like to get your food budget down anyway, so it may also be helpful to see how the amount fluctuates from month to month.

Cloud 02-15-2010 04:25 PM

yes, I agree--that's what I need to do.

Nirvana 02-15-2010 05:47 PM

I sold a puppy to a wonderful home. Put money in the bank. [wealthy sorta]
I am having a cheap azz tombstone pizza for supper [not healthy]
I am going to doggie school with Victor :) [wise for sure]

That is a great idea for cloud.

TheMercenary 02-16-2010 09:10 AM

Healthy: Very little, need to work on that.
Wealthy: Worked 24 yesterday, 8 more today.
Wise: Continue to study about Ham Radio in an effort to get my initial license.

DanaC 02-16-2010 09:15 AM

Healthy: errr...not really.
Wealthy: *blows out cheeks* nope.
Wise: *scratches head* Unless disasters really can be solved by reversing the polarity of the neutron flow, I'd say this is a no.

Sundae 02-16-2010 09:50 AM

Cloud, I'm rebuilding my credit score with a prepay card.
Technically they loan me the monthly charges for a whole year, and I pay them back each month. In reality I don't get a penny in advance, so it's no risk for them, no temptation for me and I look like I'm a better credit risk than I am.

But then if you already have cards you're already out of my league credit-wise anyway...

Nirvana 02-16-2010 10:35 AM

Update: Health

Victor and I were on our way to dog school. I stop at the gate to open the electric fence get back in the car to go past it, I get out to hook the gate and then Victor locks the car. YAY! I had to walk all the way home and get the duplicate keys. [1/2 mile] Snowing and no hat. :D

Pico and ME 02-16-2010 10:37 AM

Right now, or as of late, ZIP to all three.

I gotta get my act together soon.

Carruthers 02-16-2010 10:53 AM

Healthy: Well, I've taken our visiting Labradog out for two walks today. The first was to the woods just down the road from home so that gave us both an hour and a quarter's worth of fresh air and exercise. The second was less energetic but still counts as healthy - I think:right:

Wealthy: Haven't spent any money. Haven't made any either.
I suppose one cancels out the other. Damn.

Wise: Am presently indulging in the restorative powers of a large mug of tea together with a couple of Fig Rolls.

Carruthers.

Edit: I once went into the supermarket in Torrington, WY looking for some biscuits (cookies) to have with my coffee and my gaze was drawn to a familiar looking wrapper. Ah! Fig Rolls I thought. Well, that's what they were, but they rejoiced in the name 'Cobblers' which is a mild obscenity on this side of the Atlantic. :D

Nirvana 02-16-2010 11:34 AM

He has a crate but I am working on car riding and separation anxiety [he whines] He was doing so good this time not a peep! So much for that he wondered WTH I left him in the car for 20 minutes! He bitched all the way to dog school.

squirell nutkin 02-16-2010 12:15 PM

Healthy: Drinking my Honey/Vinegar concoction and resisting salt.
Wealthy: Working on an editing job.
Wise: Having a Voice lesson in a half hour and reading up on fonts.

limey 02-16-2010 12:19 PM

Damn! I knew there was something I meant to make a start on today!

monster 02-16-2010 11:00 PM

massage, tipped massage therapist less than usual because of notes available (is OK, never had this one before, never will again, tip was still OK, just not overly-generous), learned a new button on excel.

Cloud 02-16-2010 11:29 PM

exercised
worked on credit stuff
opened my W-2 and 1099s

SamIam 02-17-2010 12:43 AM

Wealthy - I did my laundry today and stuffed 4 loads in one dryer to save quarters. Not very wise - everything came out wrinkled. :thepain: Healthy - I only smoked one cigarette while waiting for everything to dry. Oh well, tomorrow's another day.

how you are using your time productively, for positive physical, mental, emotional, or financial returns.
Physical: The sun is finally shining, so I'm going to do some gardening today. YAY! Just gotta wait a bit for it to warm up - quite chilly out there right now.

Mental: Every morning, after reading my email and visiting message boards, I play a few games of Paraben's Mah Jong, using the difficult "bridge" design. Keeps me sharp. I can usually do it in less than three minutes; best time was 1:51!

Emotional: Yesterday, I took one of my kitties to the vet for possible kidney or diabetes issues. Was utterly ignored by the front desk staff when trying to pay and get my stressed kitty back home (the phone rang, and apparently paying customers simply wink out of existence when the phone rings). Had an argument with the girl once she finally stopped chatting with the caller about how to get a cat used to a carrier (!), and was so pissed off about it, I went home and started typing out a complaint letter.

Got a call this morning from the vet (who also happens to be the owner of the clinic) to say that my kitty may be in the very early stages of kidney failure, but she's currently in no danger, although more tests are needed. Then she said she'd heard about the poor customer service I received. She completely agreed that it was not acceptable, and said that the matter would be addressed in this afternoon's staff meeting.

So yeah. My complaints did not fall on deaf ears and my kitty isn't dying... yet. ;)

Financial: I do pet sitting on the side. Got an easy and nearby pet-sitting gig through the 25th - $14 per visit to me.

Start my new job next Monday. *dread* I haven't had a real job in nearly six years, but the economic hard times we're in have forced me to not only search for a full-time job, but to accept one. Grocery store cashier. *dread*

Cloud 02-17-2010 07:32 PM

I signed up for "finance works" through my local credit union website. A free Quicken-like service which gives you pie charts of your spending, provides alerts for upcoming bills, etc. Pretty cool and easy.

monster 02-17-2010 08:23 PM

figure skated. Veggie soup for luch (followed by pancakes, oops).
Paid $330 for Thor and hector's next hockey sessions. FAIL.
now helping kids with science fair projects.

TheMercenary 02-17-2010 08:47 PM

Completed administrative requirements of Referees Society.

Took kitchen floor boards to the dump.

Dug out neighborhood pond drainage ditch and overflow pipe.

Moved all appliances back into the house and set them up to working order, freezer #3, washing machine, dryer.

Laid down new throw carpet.

Cleaned out lint pipe under house.

Retrieved toy from woods for dog and laid down insecticides in swamp behind house.

Went to store and bought dinner and flowers for the wife.

Cooked dinner.

Chopped firewood.

Made fire in the fireplace.

Had a glass of wine.

Shouldn't you have thrown it?

TheMercenary 02-17-2010 09:16 PM

No, then it might have been a "thrown" carpet. :D

monster 02-18-2010 12:17 AM

Is it in the throne room?

Carruthers 02-18-2010 03:54 PM

Healthy: Went to the market for the week's supply of fruit and veg. Afterwards went to collect visiting Labradog and took him for walks in the pouring rain. Healthy? Well I got some exercise in the process

Wealthy: Deposited cheque for £25. (Premium Bond prize).
I hope HM Govt can meet it. Having listened to the news today, we're in deeper financial 'wossname' than ever.

Wise: Took visiting Labradog home! (See above)
