resizing photos

What software do you use to resize photos?

Shawnee123 04-19-2010 12:23 PM

microsoft office pic manager

compress

for web pages

At least it serves the purpose of posting a viewable pic here in the Cellar.

squirell nutkin 04-19-2010 02:03 PM

photoshop

glatt 04-19-2010 02:05 PM

irfanview.

are you interested in resizing one at a time or batch processing?

One at a time, to post here.

glatt 04-19-2010 02:53 PM

I like irfanview, because I'm used to it and can do it in a couple seconds with keystroke shortcuts. But it's a pretty basic task and many programs can do it well.

Flint 04-19-2010 03:18 PM

Free IrfanView 4.25 download from CNet: http://download.cnet.com/IrfanView/3...html?tag=mncol

I recently started using the pixelate effect to de-identify HIPAA PHI in presentations.

Shawnee123 04-19-2010 03:21 PM

If you save a pic to your desktop, then right click and "open with ms pic manager" then "edit pictures" on top then "compress pictures" on right side then compress for "web pages" it's so easy you can't even stand it.

Why would you need a whole new program, just to resize for here?

Flint 04-19-2010 03:23 PM

Because shut up.

Shawnee123 04-19-2010 03:27 PM

There was this one guy once who was making fun of everyone hopping on the Other Browser bandwagon. He said the commonly used browser was just fine.

Ha!

Flint 04-19-2010 03:29 PM

No.

Clodfobble 04-19-2010 03:30 PM

MS Paint.

Image --> Stretch/Skew --> Whatever horizontal/vertical percentage is appropriate.

Spexxvet 04-19-2010 03:43 PM

The Cellar limit is 122+ k. It would be nice to choose a photo, and tell the software that I want it to be x dimensions, and y file size, and POOF, it would happen. In a free application.

Shawnee123 04-19-2010 03:46 PM

You can do that with ms pic manager too, using resize instead of compress.

I love MS Paint (y'all know I do) but as a re-sizer, it is an artifact machine. I don't "save as" Jpeg with it either.

I can't find a download. Google shows all kinds of sites, but it's all just a tease!:brikwall:

lumberjim 04-19-2010 04:02 PM

you're joking right?

could you raise your right hand when you're joking?

xoxoxoBruce 04-19-2010 04:02 PM

You have to have MS Office for that.

I have Office 2003

lumberjim 04-19-2010 04:20 PM

right click any pic file > open with > microsoft picture manager>
http://www.veryicon.com/icon/png/App...%20Manager.png

or...in the start menu, office, office tools

Cloud 04-19-2010 04:27 PM

PS Elements is the easiest for me; alternatively, with iPhone pics, I upload them to photobucket, and resize from there

Pete Zicato 04-19-2010 05:24 PM

Here's the home for irfanview:

http://www.irfanview.com/

That wasn't so bad, was it?

Elspode 04-19-2010 08:06 PM

Irfanview for me.

monster 04-19-2010 09:27 PM

photostudio 5.5, apparently.

who knew.

an aoutomatic resizer would be nice... ;)

jinx 04-19-2010 09:30 PM

irfanview

I click on resize and then choose the 800x600 pixels option and that seems to work for here. On landscape anyway.

Tulip 04-19-2010 10:54 PM

Photoshop, and I use this other program which I don't know the name to and I can't look it up because it's in my desktop, which is not on, so I can't tell you. :D  Rambling on bunch of useless information, yes, I know. I find that funny...hehhehe. The other program, right-click, resize, choose either small, medium, large. Simple, to the point, and serves its specific purpose. I will get the info for Spexxvet tomorrow because I think he'll like it.

squirell nutkin 04-19-2010 11:01 PM

there's two types of people in this world, resize queens and liars.

I don't believe that was directed at you, it was more of a carpet bombing. ;)

Tulip 04-20-2010 12:01 AM

Oh, I didn't think he was directing it specifically at me. I'm just confused at what he's trying to say. :p:

xoxoxoBruce 04-20-2010 12:08 AM

Tulip 04-20-2010 12:20 AM

Ahhh...okay. :p:

This thread is like the Billy from Family Circus...going wayyyy out of his way (getting new software) to do something as simple as going home (resizing pics for posting in the Cellar.)

I got that with no problem, thanks. I wanted to try the ms pic thing, but at this point, I don't think I'll bother.

Shawnee123 04-20-2010 07:38 AM

Spexx, darling...take my hand, let me lead you to the promised land of photo-resize. :)

Spexxvet 04-20-2010 07:39 AM

Be gentle.

Spexxvet 04-20-2010 07:40 AM

I posted a photo in Post your pet. It's lame.

Shawnee123 04-20-2010 07:41 AM

;)

Shawnee123 04-20-2010 07:42 AM

Awwww, no, that's a perfectly wonderful picture. How cute is Darla? She should meet Pilau, they'd make a cute couple. :)

It wasn't directed at you, Tulip. It is a joke about there being two types of people: size queens and liars. Meaning, despite someone saying "size doesn't matter" it really does, they are just not admitting it to you or themselves.

Spexxvet 04-20-2010 10:15 AM

I'm good, now. Thanks for all your help.

xoxoxoBruce 04-20-2010 10:20 AM

No your not, I want to see a good picture of that cute puppy.

xoxoxoBruce 04-20-2010 10:50 AM

She's gorgeous. :yesnod:

Officer: Ohh! Ohhh! Ah good looking dog isn't it?

Sergeant: She sir, she's a bitch

Officer: Is she?

Sergeant: Yes sir. Ah look out, sir! (the sound of an explosion and someone screaming) Oh blimey.

Officer: Ah sarge?

Sergeant: Yes sir?

Officer: This dog of yours, quite a little stunner isn't she.

Sergeant: Look out sir (sound of machine gun fire) you think they're bringing up the big mortar sir?

Officer: Yes. Does she eh, does she have any friends?

Sergeant: What sir?

Officer: Your dog.

Sergeant: Just the other dogs in the neighborhood sir.

Officer: She doesn't have any steady boyfriends does she?

Sergeant: Oh no sir she is a dog.

Officer: Yes of course.

(sound of far away explosion)

Sergeant: Oh blimey it's getting bad sir.

Officer: Yes, still she would not object to someone calling on her would she sarge?

Sergeant: I am not sure what you mean sir.

Officer: Well I..I..I was thinking perhaps I could take her for a walk sometime.

Sergeant: Oh yes sir, course sir. anytime.

Officer: Thank you sarge.

Sergeant: (yelling) Look out sir! (explosion) Now that's my wife sir.

Officer: Ah you sure sarge?

Sergeant: Yes sir, that's my wife.

Officer: And that's your dog?

Sergeant: Yes sir.

Officer: I see. Looks like I will be calling on you a lot when all this is over.

Sergeant: Oh thank you sir.

Officer: Not at all it's just that I am rather fond of dogs,

Undertoad 04-20-2010 01:27 PM

She's a good lookin' dog. But the way she's wearing the handkerchief means she's lesbian, dominant, looking for a bull terrier.

Also, I can't stop thinking Wil Wheaton Terrier.

Shawnee123 04-20-2010 01:34 PM

Ha. Wil Wheaton has been doing some appearances (as Wil Wheaton) on The Big Bang Theory. He and Sheldon have a huge rivalry.

glatt 04-20-2010 01:38 PM

I used to follow Wil Wheaton, back in my Fark days. I got a kick out of seeing him on Big Bang.

Gravdigr 04-20-2010 03:17 PM

See, this is what I'm talking about...To hell with 'resizing' a pic. My cat does that regularly. What I need is to reduce the size of the FILE. If I take a picture of, or with, grass, or anything green, or with bajillions of edges, getting the pic file under 175kb for the Cellar, and still have it big enough to look at, is damn near impossible. I use PhotoStudio 5.0, for compression I'm trying Web Resizer, not thrilled with it, but still learning the program. Any compressor suggestions?

Shawnee123 04-20-2010 03:31 PM

But but but...that's what I've been trying to tell you. Well, not YOU you, but all y'all. When I use MS Office Pic Manager, sometimes I don't see any changes dimensionally, but it takes it down to the right amount of KBs for posting here.

Again...right click, open with MS Office Pic Mngr, choose edit pics, choose compress, choose for web pages. Voila. A postable pic.

Sigh...

There's gotta be a story somewhere, maybe a proverb or one of Asshop's Fables, where some insect tries to tell all the other insects they're working harder, not smarter, and they ignore him and keep trying to do something that's really easy like stack blades of grass but they didn't like using just ANY tool for the job it had to be a cool tool, but they couldn't get the cool tool to work quite the way their good old-fashioned mouthy teethy tool worked but they still wanted a cool tool, until they all die of some strange disease because they just wouldn't listen to the lowly lay insect who they thought didn't know nuttin'.

The End
