June 19, 2010: Table Test
Simple test, which table is bigger?
http://cellar.org/2010/tablesop.jpg Do you think the green table looks bigger? Do you think the red table looks bigger? A yes answer to either question gets a honk, from Beulah the buzzer. They are the same size. http://cellar.org/2010/tablesop2.jpg More here. |
Related, but simpler, and less about being tricked: The Eyeballing Game.

No matter what, it's always eight inches.
|
Of course it is.
|
The green one is bigger. It can seat 6 people; the red one can only seat 4.

:lol2: Is Zen aware of this?

I counted the markings on the rug pattern, and came up with a larger surface area for the red table. I have no ruler, so in my universe, the red one is larger.

...and now I'm bored and my eyes are spining. Great game for the kids, though |
I think they are not the same size. They may take up the same area/amount of space, but one is longer than the other, one is wider than the other. That's two (2) different sizes.:3eye:

Nevermind.

The tables may have the same size in pixels on the computer screen, but if you measure them against the square floor tiles, the red table is about 5.25 tiles long and 2.25 tiles wide. The green one is 3.25 tiles wide by 3.25 tiles wide.
If the optical illusion is that "ha ha, some floor tiles are drawn small in this drawing to make you think they are far away" then I don't think that really counts as an optical illusion. That's a standard drawing technique. |
