rescue of Chilean Miners -Live

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-11489439

Are you watching?

xoxoxoBruce 10-12-2010 10:01 PM

I'm not worried, that rig was designed by a NASA engineer, and tested well. It'll work fine.

classicman 10-12-2010 10:06 PM

I'll watch the first one up & then I'll see the last as well if my schedule permits. Pretty cool though.

classicman 10-12-2010 10:12 PM

He's up He's up He's up He's up He's up He's up He's up

monster 10-12-2010 10:16 PM

I'm not worried either. I just think it's great.

monster 10-12-2010 10:47 PM

it's funny listening to the BBC reporters. I'd forgotten how much more casual and risque they are. And they say things funny ;)

xoxoxoBruce 10-12-2010 10:47 PM

I'm wondering what will happen to the miner who's wife, and mistress, both showed up, when the accident happened.

monster 10-12-2010 10:57 PM

well, yeah, there is that aspect too....

who needs soap operas?

although no question as to who needs soap....

xoxoxoBruce 10-12-2010 11:38 PM

It will be all soap operas for awhile. Interviews, articles, the dirt on who was cool vs who was a dick, underground, the Weekly World News reporting Bat Boy saved them from certain death, and a couple of ghost written books. Wonder which ones will be on Oprah? :haha:

After he comes up they are going to put him back in the hole.

Trilby 10-13-2010 07:41 AM

Nah, this is Chile! They will both immediately make love to him!

TheMercenary 10-13-2010 08:00 AM

#12 on the way out. Great feed from the BBC.

TheMercenary 10-13-2010 08:14 AM

I just timed the last rescue #12. Time to top from bottom is 15 min. Not bad. Sounds like they are moving a little faster than before.

Shawnee123 10-13-2010 08:21 AM

It's heartwarming, especially the happiness on the faces of the families. Chalk one up for human resiliency.

glatt 10-13-2010 08:27 AM

I'm glad I'm not a miner.

The wife and mistress don't get along then?;)

monster 10-13-2010 08:45 AM

They're never going to be done if they keep sending people down.....

Shawnee123 10-13-2010 08:57 AM

I bet those guys sleep good tonight!

Happy Monkey 10-13-2010 10:21 AM

I hope they don't have a fox, a chicken, and a bag of seed down there. Getting them out can be tricky.

glatt 10-13-2010 10:25 AM

xoxoxoBruce 10-13-2010 11:33 AM

Told ya so...

Tensions are rising above ground as wives and mistresses of the 33 miners trapped deep within the San Jose mine make rival claims for compensation.

Cloud 10-13-2010 07:22 PM

I have to say . . . I'd hate to be the last one down there

monster 10-13-2010 08:12 PM

Now they just have to get the rescue workers back up....

Jaydaan 10-13-2010 08:31 PM

I am still not sure *why* it took that long to get to them... but I am very glad to see all of them got out alive. The weeks/months ahead will tell if they got out ok :(
Either way, at least they are on the surface, and thats pretty damn cool!

"Hey are my wife and girlfriends up there?" "Mmmm, maybe I'll just stay down here a little longer."

I think if a miner has enough $ to have a wife and 4 mistresses, then they are getting paid too much $.

Again, it's Chile. Everyone has at least four mistresses.

Are they sponsored by the state? Do their online forums devolve into "I don't want my tax dollars paying for some miner's mistress's groceries."

casimendocina 10-13-2010 10:29 PM

The rational part of my brain tells me it has to be genuine, but on an intuition leve, I find it hard to be convinced of the emotion behind Sebastian Pinera's (the President) hugs. He seems so plasticky.

monster 10-13-2010 10:37 PM

Everyone's up. Hurrah.

Well come on now, would you want to hug a miner who hasn't bathed in 2 months?

TheMercenary 10-13-2010 11:12 PM

Billionaires tend to do that.

monster 10-14-2010 12:15 AM

OFFS wouldn't you hug them? I would and I don't do Touchy-Feely, The prez hasn't slept in forever and has an unfortunate Deputy Dawg face.

xoxoxoBruce 10-14-2010 12:30 AM

Honestly, when you first heard of a mine collapse in Chile, did you think there was a chance in hell they'd all come out alive... or any come out alive? Incredible luck. Incredible effort.

No chance at all. It's amazing and the fact that they're way ahead of their original timeline is incredible. In spite of my cynicism about Sebastian Pinera, I am very, very glad that all of the miners got out alive.

xoxoxoBruce 10-14-2010 03:26 AM

I heard they made a legal & binding pact when they were still underground, that all revenue from this incident will be shared equally.

Not a chance. Great effort.

One of my favorite websites is Cockeyed.

Rob, the guy who runs that site, made a scale graphic to show just how long the shaft that these miners had to travel through is. It's pretty impressive.

Spexxvet 10-15-2010 12:39 PM

That was a great show. When's the next episode?

Happy Monkey 10-15-2010 12:47 PM

I caught a headline somewhere that there's going to be a mining reality show.

Agreed. Very impressive.

HungLikeJesus 10-16-2010 10:36 AM

I was thinking that they could have gotten those miners up a lot quicker if they just used something like this:

xoxoxoBruce 10-16-2010 10:39 AM

That sucks. It won't work unless the hole is open on the other end. :p:

xoxoxoBruce 10-16-2010 10:43 PM

Here's a good diagram of the whole mine.
